Royal Oak due to re-open very shortly. It has been completely re-furbished and I am looking for to the opening - will be nice to have some competition for the Greyhound who seem to increase their prices too regularly.

Re-opened 4th August - had a very acceptable meal - 2 for 10 was would give 9 out of 10. Lovely hot food and well cooked. More bar staff on - hope they keep it up. Give it a try

splodge99 - what a wonderful accurate review - i myself thought it somewhat odd about the number of "good reports" quickly accumulating and promoting the Greyhound on here.
I still visit regularly, the bar staff are great, you couldn't ask for nicer people - not tried the food yet because there are not that many people eating in there as yet. Yes you are correct the football element is somewhat off-putting and makes the place no more that a rowdy match-day place and came be quite intimidating.
If and when the Mooring re-opens it will be the real test for the Greyhound

sorry, just heard too many bad comments not taking the chance. Believe the newly opened Basin Restaurant, previously the Marco Polo is good though - must try

Good pub with reasonable prices on "doubles" if you avoid red bull. Also DO NOT TIP - taking a 1 is a bit of a liberty. They would have got a lot more if the bar staff hadn;t been so gready on the first drink

Right about the rugby club - preferential treatment to them. An OK boozer, wouldn't consider "friendly" nothing special

This pub has now returned to being "The Moorings" under new management. Had a meal when it first re-opened - nicely decorated but food not brilliant. The car park is still empty. Roll on summer when the real test will be

management recently "moved out/on" and is now run by bar manager. Food was good but now it appears to be returning to a boozer. Football on evenings and weeks. Theme nights seem to be popping up every week. Shame really was nice when did more food.

I can only assume this pub has changed hands since the last reviews. Had lunch there - steak baguette - should have been medium cooked - well done - pub didn't have onions so had mushrooms - these were over burnt and stone cold.
the meals of other people I dined with also had problems with their food one evem sending back - the second effort no better.
Not one where I would eat agtain
