The Foundry, Shoreditch

Certainly the most unique pub I've had the pleasure to while away an evening in, in London. It is more of a squat that sells beer than a pub. The staff are open-minded and friendly and downstairs is an artistic space, where anyone who "thinks they can do better" is encouraged to do so. This place makes me think how Shoreditch probably was in the short period when it really WAS cutting edge and before the trust fund babies and hanger-on caught wind of it.

The Princess of Shoreditch, Old Street

Solid pub. Open plan and visually rather like being in a black & white film. Strange atmospheric minimalism and coldness about the place - but that could just be coz I went there on a Monday night. Acceptable for a couple of pints, but you wouldn't want to get messy in there.

The Griffin, Shoreditch

One of the least pretentious and most honest of the Shoreditch / Hoxton Battle-cruisers. Good dart-board and pool table, both of which can be used to withering effect if the Nathan Barley/Trustafarian quotient gets too high.

The Londesborough, Stoke Newington

Only been on a Sunday. Overcrowded and overpriced. A hamburger cost 9 in October 2005. Friendly Staff and the layout is good. Very Stokey crowd - 30 something new media, black rimmed glasses, low-slung satchels, copy of the Guardian surgically attached to the obligatory three wheeled buggy, cracking your ankles as little Tarquin screams his middle-class lungs off. Pubs are for adults, dig? I won't sit in your playground drinking a pint, if you don't crawl in my pub screeching and puking, making me feel guilty for smoking a fag. Deal?

Wetherspoons, Victoria Station

For alcoholic businessmen, football hooligans and other detritus that washes in and out on a septic tide. Best avoided.

The Shakespeare, Victoria

Unusual pub. The upstairs is as you would expect being so close to a national rail station - the clientele are a mixture of lost souls, Wookies, office-types and bums, has the feeling of a tramps refuge, but the little-known about downstairs has is actually quite good, with little candle-lit caves and quite a piano-bar feel. Strange but true! On balance though, if you're in Victoria you can do a lot better.

Trinity, Harrow

Best Pub in Harrow. Full Stop. Can't fault it.

The Castle, Harrow On The Hill

This is one of the best pubs in Harrow. In the Summer, the beer garden is excellent and in the winter the real fire gives off a magical glow. I like this pub. Only down side is it is so far from the station and up a big hill, but at least this stops the Yates' scum of Harrow climbing up to investigate.

Moon On The Hill, Harrow

Are you scared of Music / Women / people under 45 / people with jobs? Then this pub needs you...

O'Neills, Harrow

I'm an idiot. Watch me drink. A thousand "Failte's" for a thousand beered-up pr*cks

Rat and Parrot, Harrow

Haaaaa Haaaaa Haaaa. This pub is so f**king bad it is actually funny. In fact, I suggest anyone reading this really goes there to see for themselves how Darwin got it SO wrong. People at the bar where actually De-volving as they tried to make sense of their meaningless lives whilst waiting to be served by eastern-european bar staff who thought a "shot" only came from a gun. The toilets a reminiscient of Feltham Young Offenders centre after a riot and the whole place is pervaded with the stench of failure, c*nt and stale sweat.

Bridge, Shawford

Lived across the road from it in Student digs for two years and it was a fantastic boozer with live music, alcoholic landlord, real charming "Lovejoy-esque" characters. Visited last month, now a form of "Harvester" vibe with rich pensioners looking disapprovingly at you over their Beef Wellingtons. Only go if you have children / want a meal / are retired. Although, to be fair, if you are one of the above it is a faultless pub.

The Old Vine, Winchester

This used to be the pub where we all met up when at King Alfred's college in 90's. Went back to check it out in November and all change. Now it's just another smug, wooden floored / white walled / olive-munching non-entity of a place, totally lacking any atmosphere - and (deservedly) clientele. Only visit if you aspire to live in Islington or own a 4x4
