The Foundry, Shoreditch

Certainly the most unique pub I've had the pleasure to while away an evening in, in London. It is more of a squat that sells beer than a pub. The staff are open-minded and friendly and downstairs is an artistic space, where anyone who "thinks they can do better" is encouraged to do so. This place makes me think how Shoreditch probably was in the short period when it really WAS cutting edge and before the trust fund babies and hanger-on caught wind of it.

The Princess of Shoreditch, Old Street

Solid pub. Open plan and visually rather like being in a black & white film. Strange atmospheric minimalism and coldness about the place - but that could just be coz I went there on a Monday night. Acceptable for a couple of pints, but you wouldn't want to get messy in there.

The Griffin, Shoreditch

One of the least pretentious and most honest of the Shoreditch / Hoxton Battle-cruisers. Good dart-board and pool table, both of which can be used to withering effect if the Nathan Barley/Trustafarian quotient gets too high.
