The Black Horse Hotel, Giggleswick

Real old fashioned pub with lots of brass. Sat next to the church and a stones throw from the public school. Beer fine and food fabulous. Went at lunch, had a starter and couldn't get through the main meal as whilst it was wonderful, the portion was more than 'genorous' to say the least. My wife, fortunately, suffered the same rather enjoyable experience. Have been before and will go again, throroughly recommended.

The Wheatsheaf, Leeds

Gone to the Great Pub Maker in The Sky - it's now occupied by a medical company.

The Shepherds Boy, Dewsbury

Nice friendly, roadside pub that belongs to the Ossett Brewery chain. Several Ossett Brewery products on sale along with guest real ales and a draught cider. Nicely furbished and very clean. Free peanuts on the bar at time of my visits. Been 3/4 times now but it's never been very busy (admittedly all my visits were outside the 'peak' times). Well worth a look.

The West Riding Refreshment Rooms, Dewsbury

Good little pub with a wide range of hand pulled ales invariabley kept in good condition. Very busy place but lots of friendly bar staff mean you aren't kept waiting too long to be served. One to be visited if you've never been before. Regular trains to Leeds/Huddersfield/Manchester.

Wetherspoons, Leeds

Recently refurbished, although they've done little to the Gents other than change the toilet roll dispensers. Little change or improvement in service or beer quality.

The Fountain, Morley

Cheap beer (it's Sam Smiths house and only sells Sam Smiths draught products), cheap decor, cheap toilets, cheap food ............... you get what you pay for!

New Inn, Churwell

Newish landlords of approx 12 months have taken some time settling in. Still need to finish redecoration and refit - and the progrss so far is quite amateurish in places (e.g tiles in Gents simply emulsioned over - paint already flaking off). Serves meals throughout the day that are reasonabley priced and OK value along with the ubiquitous Sunday Carvery. Large screen T.V's that at times seem to be utilised simply for the entertainment of the landlord or his family. Has bands on, usually on Saturdays but occasionally Fridays plus mid week quizzes, psychic events etc. As for the beer - well it's your usual largers and the dreaded 'Smooth's' from Tetleys & John Smiths, which is a real shame as the pub used to supply at least a couple of cask ales. Very busy on Leeds United match days pre & post match but can be eerily quite at other times

The Wheatsheaf, Leeds

As of December 2009 it's still all boarded up.

The Walkabout Inn, Leeds

It's pretty grim really. Never busy whenever I've visited. Don't expect anything like a real ale it's all the plastic stuff and Aussie lager (much of it bottled but Fosters on tap). It's only saving grace used to be that it was cheap but that's since changed and your paying 2 and a half quid for Smiths Smooth. At the weekend all the (limited) seating get's 'removed' at about 9 p.m. presumably to give room for for the lager louts who might arrive later (wouldn't know as I've never stopped in the place that late).

Wetherspoons, Leeds

In the city station complex and as such it's invariabley very busy. Usual range of half a dozen varied handpulled beers that are kept, well OK seems to be the best word. Service is fairly good for such a busy pub but the main issue here is getting a decently topped pint. Your pint will almost certaily be offered with nearly an inch of head, even the lager - something that is scandalous - asking for a top up can, at times, result in a reaction like you've asked for a freebie. Food is typical 'fast' pub food but has been fine everytime I've ordered. The Coors Redeyereuben mentions is now 2.40.

The Victoria Hotel, Leeds

Decent enough pub with a decent range of hand pulled beers that are usually kept well but there's never enough staff behind the bar. Try Friday after 5 p.m. and you could die of thirst before getting served. A bit pricey too

Edwards Bar, Leeds

No longer exists as Edwards Bar, closed and referbed and re-opened as The Picture House. Think Wetherspoons and you've got this one although there not quite the variety of ales you usually get in a Wetherspoons. Food similar to a JDW house.

The Moorcock Inn, Garsdale Head

Visted a couple of times after long hikes from Garsdale railway station - it's approx 1 mile from the station. The decor is certainly weird when your half expecting rural & rustic and not particularly to my own taste . Limited varieties of beer/lager but I never had anything but a good pint. Food menu limited on my visits - I had a hot baguette on one visit which was tasty. Pubs been virtually empty on both visits but that's probably my timing (4pm mid-week). Lots of local information leaflets available.

The Crown Hotel, Horton in Ribblesdale

Visit fairly regularly as I use the Leeds-Settle-Carlisle rail line a lot. Decent enough pub with a bar, lounge and restaurant area. Limited selection of beers & lagers but usually kept OK. Log fire is very welcome on the colder days. Usually quite busy, especially in the summer. One notable thing is that they do seem to have a remakable turnover of staff from year to year (mostly from overseas). Gents toilet basic but OK. Never eaten there so can't comment on the food. 5 minute walk from the rail station.

The Station Inn, Ribblehead

Regular visitor as it's ideally placed if, like me, you use the Leeds-Settle-Carlisle rail line. A couple of minutes walk from the railway station (maybe 5 if you've just done the 3 Peaks).Owners seem to change quite often and it only opened all day everyday a few years ago. The pub consists of the bar area and the dining area (although you can eat in the bar). The bar is, well, your bog standard bar with pool table and TV (installed when the new owners arrived a couple of years ago). Beer & lager selection is fair and cooked food is readily available. Bar staff generally helpful and the stove in winter is most welcome. Decent beer garden at the rear. As other people have said what lets this pub down is the gents toilets (can't attest for the ladies). Whilst gents toilets in many pubs leave a lot to be desired these really are poor and need an urgent redec' which they don't seem to have had in the last 10 or so years I've been visiting the pub.
