The Three Horseshoes, Farnham

Not bad. There has been a lot of commotion over the planning permission for the canopied area at the front of the property.

The service is fast, it is rather small inside and the ceiling is quite low for any tall customers.
The manager is a little weird but everyone is friendly. Worth a try

The Fox and Hounds, Clavering

A nice village pub. I found the current manageress to be a little highly strung. She told our table to quieten down because we were putting a pair of locals off of their meal. And I can honestly say we were hardly talking loud at all.
The next time we visited, there were a crowd of around 9 or 10 farmers having a meal around a table, making so much noise we had to shout across the table to each other.
Rules for some and rules for others? - Wasn't impressed and promptly left.

Apart from this, I found the place to be nice, the food is good and it has a nice area to sit/smoke in the summer.

The Three Willows, Birchanger

Good place to drink. Never too crowded. Would recomend.

The Coach and Horses, Bishops Stortford

I visit here quite frequently in the evenings.

If it is a little busy it can take an age to get served, which is off putting.
Interior of the pub is good, it has character and is well maintained.

I find often on Friday and Saturday evenings, no sooner have I bought my pint and have just selected a seat to sit, and the bell for last orders is ringing! It is not uncommon for this place to start ringing that bell between 10.45 and 11pm.
I feel this is a little early, and often the subsequent bells are ignored by punters who dont intend on rushing their drinks to get out of there.

I found the food to be very tasty and came out in good time.
Sauces are a pain. They have one wooden plate which contains all the sauces you could dream off. However, you have to wait for a waiter to bring it over, and they take it back away with them, so you have to try and get as much as you think you will need. It would be more convenient to have sauces that a customer can keep for the duration of their meal.

The Nags Head, Bishop's Stortford

Very nice. This public house has now been taken over by McMullen & Sons.
I think this pub looks fantastic inside compared to its old drab look.
Staff are friendly, quick and helpful.
Food is good, it arrives fast and staff are only too happy to get condiments etc.
Would strongly recommend. Watch out for weekends, the car park can get busy.

The Yew Tree Inn, Manuden

Having lived in the local area for a very long time, I have seen the tenants come and go at this establishment. The previous tenants did have alot of bother with the place and got a lot of stick.
As mentioned in other posts, the pub has re-opened since months of being shut.
I think the first mistake here was the complete lack of advertising that the pub was indeed opening, was newly refurbished and had some new and interested tenants.
The new refurb is different. The pub certainly has lost its village charm and it now looks far more modern and sophisticated. For me this is not too much of a problem. It is nice to have one place which bucks the trend.

I have visited a good few times since the unannounced re-opening and I am quite concerned that there dont often seem to be many customers in there. Also the blinds for the windows are always down so for passing motorists or people, it looks almost as though the pub is shut. This evening was the first time I noticed that the blinds had been wound up a little so you could see the place was actually open.
I believe since my last visit, the kitchen is now up and running, so they are now doing food.

I would recommend this place, but I personally only visit with friends once every so often.

The Eight Bells, Saffron Walden

I have not visited since this establishment has obtained new management staff. Nor have I had a meal here before. But when visiting for a drink, I found the interior to be very tasteful and the bar service was friendly and fast.

Would recomend visiting, and I will go back there again very soon.

The Temeraire, Saffron Walden

Wouldn't rate this place.
Lunch times are ok.
Friday and Saturday evenings are shambolic. Staff are extremely rude, they can barely cope with the volume of customers and have a distinct lack of interest in the customers needs or requests. It took 35 minutes for me to get served at the bar yesterday evening.
I dont know where the management source their staff from, but they are poor. It is not uncommon to hear staff swear at customers to ignore anyone who complains about how long they are waiting at the bar.
Weatherspoon pubs are cheap and cheerful, we know this. But this is the first I have experienced with such poor customer service. It really lets the chain down.

The food is as you would expect for a Weatherspoon place, and comes out in good time. Lunch times, as I have mentioned, are not too bad. Would strongly recommend avoiding on Friday and Saturday nights.
