Unique art deco pub on the outskirts of Bishops Stortford. All credit to McMullens for turning the place around. Worth a visit, but the beer isn't very exciting. Very much a food led place. There's a large menu offering variations on grilled meat and salads. Portions are huge and the quality is OK. There's a small garden which gets busy on fine evenings.
This is probably the best pub in town.

The exterior and interior of this pub are very much in the Art Deco style throughout - the exterior styling is matched by the interior which is all big curves and brown upholstery (sounds like my ideal woman!). Staff are friendly and the food has a good choice at very reasonable prices. The beer is standard McMullens offerings but these are well kept. It's worth a visit for the interior alone. Can get busy at peak times, so it's advisable to book a table if you definitely want to eat.

Very large food-oriented pub with series of rooms and areas with varied stylish new decor. 3 McMullen's beers, good quality pub food and a waitress who couldn't have tried harder if she owned the place. Very close to the motorway, so an excellent alternative to service stations (see also Blackhorse Inn in Elton nr. Peterborough services). By 2PM on a Friday there wasn't an empty table in the place, so for food seems to be a huge success, but I wonder what the atmosphere's like in the evening.

Been in a couple of times since it reopened - have to say the refurb is fantastic, McMullens have done a really good job, it's like being in a 1920s ocean liner or a Poirot episode. Three real ales, unfortunately all McMullens and no guest ales, but kept well.
It's been heaving each time I've been in (around 7pm midweek) so if you want to eat I would recommend booking.
Going there this lunchtime for a family birthday so will report back on the food.

Very nice. This public house has now been taken over by McMullen & Sons.
I think this pub looks fantastic inside compared to its old drab look.
Staff are friendly, quick and helpful.
Food is good, it arrives fast and staff are only too happy to get condiments etc.
Would strongly recommend. Watch out for weekends, the car park can get busy.
