Visited this 'spoons on the high street yesterday afternoon/early evening. It was a Monday and so it was pleasantly quiet and relaxed, and v easy to get served, so thankfully I had no issues with service unlike other reviewers. I have to say I like this pub very much and If I lived in Saffron Walden or nearby, you would often find me with a pint of ale in my hand propping up the bar. This is a proper decent pub where I'm sure families would feel safe and comfortable.

We've tried the Temeraire on previous occasions, not least to use Camra vouchers. Beer always well kept and friendly staff. Hit gold today with good selection of beers (7 of 8 pumps in use, 3 of which were golden), my preference for Saffron Citurian, a very flavoursome 3.8%. Adnams American IPA and Morwen Radgie Gadgie, both 4.8%, didn't match the Citurian for flavour.
Six Nations on TV, not intrusive, food good quality pub grub.

Very poor choice of ales - only one guest on (Grain Store) which was OK. Otherwise it was Coming Soon or Greene King rubbish. Why put Wetherspoon pubs like this in the Good Beer Guide?

I found the Temeraire to be an above-average branch of Spoons. The cider and perry selection was excellent - Broadoak Perry, Westons Old Rosie, Vintage Organic, Marcle Hill & Raspberry Twist, Gwynt y Ddraig Black Dragon & Thatchers Heritage. Unfortunately, some of the beers displayed were 'coming soon'. But they did seemingly have Greene King Abbot & Ruddles Best, Batemans Veto Ale, Adnams Southwold IPA & Nick Stafford's Hambletons Ales Nightmare. Staff were fairly friendly and efficient. Live football was being shown on the TV. Worth a visit if in Saffron Walden.

This is a" Wetherspoons". Always short of staff at busy times.
Fair sized place with plenty of tables both inside and out. Does get busy and turns into a bit of a bun fight for service. If you have been to a Wetherspoons before, then this is no worse or better than the rest.
