TOO much horse racing, every telly, every conversation, every table. Otherwise OK

22 Jul 2011 21:36

The Jurys Out, Brighton

Not change much, place is mostly empty yet when you do go in your treated like, i dont know you, what are you doing in here!

22 Jul 2011 21:31

The Hikers Rest, Brighton

Hardcore Albion pub full of hardcore Albion supporting locals, and long may it remain so.
Away fans avoid!
They expect new customers when the Amex opens and as long as you have a Brighton shirt or tat you will be fine (or so I'm told)

22 Jul 2011 21:26

The Cricketers, Brighton

Always been one of my favorites, nice pub. BUT over 4 for a pint of average lager is just daft. And the staff seem to get less friendly as time goes on, maybe the greedy landlord is cutting staff wages and can no longer find the better people? Shame, real shame.

22 Jul 2011 21:11

The Dolphin, Worthing

I actualy like this pub, it is a good local and they really do try to keep the scum out. It deserves some good reviews but the ones the landlord used to post about his own pub were so over the top they were just unbelievable

27 May 2010 17:54

The Clifton Arms, Worthing

Freehold for sale sign on the outside of the building so i guess thats it, cant see anyone in their right mind wanting to buy this except for flats.

27 May 2010 17:46

The Dolphin, Worthing

Does anyone other than the landlord, in various guises, ever post anything about how wonderfull his pub is?
Would be a lot more believable if the comments came from the punters!

15 Jun 2008 22:10

The Clifton Arms, Worthing

Sad as I am to see an old pub go to the wall I'm afraid it's more a case of putting this old friend out of it's misery and letting it go to the great pub crawl in the sky.
It may be a bit early for a eulogy but this was once the best pub in town with an amazing trade, you could hardly get in the door at weekends but those days are long gone and it now attracts the customers most other pubs don't want.
Goodby old friend.

15 Jun 2008 22:08

The Jurys Out, Brighton

No, gone again. Looks like it could be terminal this time.

21 Dec 2007 04:32

The Jurys Out, Brighton

Well that didn't last long. The Cabaret bar looks to have gone bust and it's the Jurys out again!

22 Sep 2007 15:11

The Pressure Point, Brighton

Yea, OK, but how the hell do they get away with the music THAT loud and all the doors open, they must have some very tolerant neighbours.

29 Aug 2007 22:10

The Clifton Arms, Worthing

Dark depressing salon bar for dark depressing people or a public bar for the local head cases. AVOID.

1 Aug 2007 05:55

The Hungry Years, Brighton

Now the Charles Street bar. A gay pick up place. If thats what your looking for, ya just found it. Personnaly I wish it was still the Hungry Years.

7 May 2007 23:12

The King and Queen, Brighton

They have made an effort recently, the toilets have been modernised, not before time, and the place is a lot cleaner.

16 Nov 2006 23:05

The Wheatsheaf, Worthing

Nice town center pub, worth a pint. Small garden out back and a few seats in front by the main road but it's allways been friendly and a nice place for a break from the shopping before you go back and find your cars been towed away.

7 Oct 2006 00:53

The Basketmakers Arms, Brighton

The only problem with this place is that it's just too popular. On the busy weekend evenings it's full anyway, then you get the freshers and the pub crawls that all want to try it and it just gets so bloody busy, you cant enjoy it.
Try it during the day, a summers day, and try the food, then you will see why we like the pub so much.

2 Oct 2006 02:31

The Royal Standard, Brighton

I have noticed that this place takes some flak from other sites and I dont thik it deserves it. I dont know what experiances others have had here but mine have all been good. I visit occasionaly and it is a wonderfull place to people watch. On a Saturday afternoon you have never seen so many beautifull women walk past. Its a nice old pub, the biggest problem is that it's on the station, club street route and so can fill up with stag night arseholes from, wherever (not always London). If this pub was 200 yards away in one of the back street it would be one of Brightons hidden secrets that everyone raves about. PLEASE, enjoy while it's here.

2 Oct 2006 02:20

The Walkabout, Brighton

Must agree with Danr below. Tis exactly what you would expect --- nay desire, from this type of establishment. I will not be taking my wife here for a romantic evening nor will I be taking the kids here for a fun day out. I will attend this establishment in my stoneage man mode. Many big friends, tribal clothing (England shirt) and attire that is easily washed or replaced. I know it's not exactly what CAMERA would call a fine old seaside pub but if we didn't have places like this for the stag nights - big footy nights then, horror of horrors, these customers could end up in your local!

2 Oct 2006 02:09

The Prince Arthur, Brighton

Nice place, bit small but there is more room in the garden area. I would love to give this a high rating and if it was transported to any of our neighboring towns it would be one of the best in town, but in B+H its just another Victorian gem hiden away in the back streets just for the locals.
Long may it remain so.

2 Oct 2006 01:53

The Paris House, Hove

Yes, I did like this one. Only had a pint but there is a good feel about the place and when you've been pubbing as long as me, your feeling are rarely wrong.

2 Oct 2006 01:44

The Freemasons Tavern, Hove

Normally against my principles to agree with posters that are anonymous but they are on the ball. Tried this place a couple of times and didn't like it one bit. Shame, I bet the pub has a very interesting history.

2 Oct 2006 01:39

The Hove Park, Hove

This was one of the main pubs for the Albion fans when they played at the sadly missed and hallowed Goldstone ground just up the road. I have fallen out of here many times at about 2:30 and staggered along to the beautiful stadium that was stolen from us. It was a really good and well run pub then and still is. I have been in several times recently and although it has been knocked about a bit, one bar now, I liked it and the food and service was very good.

2 Oct 2006 01:29

The Lazy Toad, Shoreham by Sea

Not an old pub but it could be. It's only been open for a few years and these new pubs in a converted shop don't usually work very well but this one does.
Not a lot of younger people in here but it always seems to be busy. The locals are friendly and the beers good. We actualy had a kitty held behind the bar with about 200 in cash in a pint pot and one of the group decided to monitor it and declared that we had NOT been turned over, but we never thought we would be, it's just not that sort of place. Visit and enjoy.

2 Oct 2006 01:15

The Merry Monk, Lancing

If you are 50 plus and just getting a swift one while waiting for your train, you should be OK, Any younger or later in the evening, you will be lucky to escape with the same shaped nose. Avoid this and the Farmers hell freezes over.

2 Oct 2006 01:07

The Southdown Hotel, Broadwater

Not really surprised about the low rating, this is not a very nice place. It is a busy , well, I want to call it an estate pub but, errrrr.
It's not in a bad part of town but it does seem to attract some of the local trash, avoid unless your a local in which case you may enjoy.

2 Oct 2006 00:55

The Cricketers, Broadwater

This is one of Worthings better pubs. Really old establishment, (a former landlord was a retired soldier that had served at the battle of Waterloo, bet he could spin a tale on a dark winters night ). Big, well kept bear garden, good reputation for the quality and quantity of the food and a good atmosphere. All one bar but it splits up as the South end has the racing on etc. and the North end enjoys the peace and dining area. Worth visiting, mostly caters for the older age groups, and worth trying the grub.

2 Oct 2006 00:52

The Elms, Broadwater

Can't understand why there are no reviews of this pub. Had a bit of a reputation many years ago. (Was the local lunatic assylum when it was built, and made one of the Sunday papers a few years ago as the pub that changed hand most frequently in all of England)But ... Please don't be put off by the past this is one of the most friendly and welcoming places around now. The owners are really good, the area has improved no end as have the customers.

2 Oct 2006 00:38

Ye Olde House At Home, Broadwater

Pubs are for adults only my arse.
Some pubs market themselves as family friendly but I do agree there has to be a cut off point as kids should not be in pubs at 11 in the evening.
Pubs are the centre of the English lifestyle and kids are more laid back about drinking if they grow up with it than if it's a right of passage for adults only.
Anyway, the pub, Used it on and off since the days of Knowles bakery next door, good pub, still is. Not run by people that would knowingly rip you off but I agree that a few signs around would avoid any confusion.

2 Oct 2006 00:28

The Wig and Pen, Broadwater

No, the best thing would have been if it was run properly. Sadly this descent old pub had a really big back garden and that was it's downfall. Land in the middle of Broadwater will make you more money than the pub, so goodby to The Wigmore. I guess it was built about 1920ish, It was the Wigmore till the old England player Malcolm Mcdonald was manager in the 80s I think, called it the Far Post because of him!
Redone after him it became the Wig and Pen and a hangout for a far younger crowd than in it's Wigmore days. Not the best pub in town but another one gone.

2 Oct 2006 00:16

The Quadrant, Brighton

Walked past this fine old pub today and I couldnot belive my eyes. The doors were open and a brand new Quadrant is nearly finished. Optics are up, chairs are in and it must be reopening any day. It looks just like the old one with all the different levels for you to fall down just like before. See you on there.

1 Oct 2006 23:21

Molly Malone's, Brighton

Not bad for the location. I dont usually like gloomy pubs but they seem to get away with it in here. BUT! I bloody hate sofas in pubs. Give a man a decent chair to sit on for gods sake, this is a drinking establishment not someones front room. nuf said.

27 Sep 2006 11:05

The Smugglers Return, Worthing

For older people, this is the HAM. That well known establishment where you could get a punch up whether you wanted one or not. They have improved it, there is now an outdoor boxing ring pretending to be a patio area. Seriously though, they have improved the pub so maybe its worth a visit but avoiding the food.

21 Aug 2006 00:10

Sir Timothy Shelley, Worthing

UM, Well what did you expect. You dont need this one reviewed, just go in the one near you, there all the same. I know there clones of each other but at least there not a rip off, you get bloody cheep drinks and half decent grub and they even try to make there pubs look like pubs. This one is no different than the rest.

21 Aug 2006 00:01

The Selden Arms, Worthing

I must agree with the previous posters. This really is worth a visit and yes, you probably will stay the evening. As a non real ale drinker its not the beer that attracts me but the way the place is run. You only get a pub full of nice people if someone has the balls to throw out the trash, and they have and continue to do so.(Except for Freeman Hardy and Willis)(Local joke, dont even try to understand)

20 Aug 2006 23:54

The Royal Oak, Worthing

Really a summer pub because it's the only place around here with a south facing outdoor area. Shame, it's quite nice all year but must do most of it's business in 3 months. If your around at any time of year it's worth a pint.

20 Aug 2006 23:45

The Renaissance Bar, Worthing

OK, More of a food place than a pub but quite good quality either way.

20 Aug 2006 23:19

Paiges Bar, Worthing

Strange little place, brilliant position and the locals seem quite tame but never gets really busy and i'm not sure why.

20 Aug 2006 23:17

North Star, Worthing

I must agree with the previous posters. Honestly. the food is plastic crap!
Please , until people in this country make a stand against places like this that are run by accountants and not by chefs we will be forced to endure some of the worst food in Europe.
England awake!
(Well, moan about rubbish food at least)

20 Aug 2006 23:15

The Montague Arms, Worthing

Birth place of the Chapman group you would think he would come back and rescue it. It has improved over the years and a succession of landlords have sorted the place out quite well. My last few visits over the last 5 or so years have been good and if I lived localy it would be on my regular visit list.

20 Aug 2006 23:07

Macmillans, Worthing

See Renaissance bar

20 Aug 2006 23:03

Tangerine Cafe Bar, Worthing

Lovely for a daytime pint just over the road from the beach. I avoid evenings and England games, if it's gonna go off it's gonna be in here.

20 Aug 2006 23:01

The Jolly Brewers, Worthing

Nice little pub in the middle of town. Does attract a few of the local drunks but never seen any trouble in here. Usually a nice crowd, worth a visit.

20 Aug 2006 22:58

The Hare and Hounds, Worthing

This is the best pub in the town if your over 25. Too much jazz on for me but lots of people clearly like it as those evenings are popular. Very old pub that has been extended, very good food at reasonable prices and a landlord that does remove anyone that is causing a problem thus allowing the silent majority to enjoy themselves. No wonder the place is always busy.

20 Aug 2006 22:43

The Half Brick, Worthing

I think the landlord has done OK with this one, worth a visit and I hear the food is very good. I think this is the same landlord that destroyed the George and Dragon in Tarring, previously one of the best pubs in Sussex. He has done a better job with this earlier venture.

20 Aug 2006 22:38

The Grand Victorian Hotel, Worthing

Not been in recently but always been a good pub so no reason to think it's changed

20 Aug 2006 22:33

The Egremont Hotel, Worthing

Still a bit spit and sawdust but a decent pub none the less. Food used to be brilliant but nit sure now, cheap B+B if you can get in. Locals are usually OK. I think they had a clear out recdently and it's much better for it. Worth a visit.

20 Aug 2006 22:23

Eden, Worthing

Good, really good. See review of Cafe Central

20 Aug 2006 22:20

The Downview, Worthing

Good old fashioned working class pub. Several pool tables big screens for the footy etc. Seperate quieter bar. Locals are fairly tame, much more so than a few years ago but thats another story. Foods not bad either. If you like it a bit noisy and basic, you should like this.

20 Aug 2006 22:19

Downlands, Worthing

A Beefeater I think. Chain pub / foodery type place , foods OK, you know the sort of stuff. Main bar though is well done out and a very pleasent place for a couple, as is the sunny beer garden. Handy if your passing through Worthing (Why would anyone want to do that?) or a local.

20 Aug 2006 22:15

The Cloisters, Worthing

Town center bar, quite young customer base. Caused quite a stir years ago when it opened bacause it used to be a church, hence the name. Popular with the locals and, I must say, not a bad place for an evening out.

20 Aug 2006 21:34

The Charles Dickens, Worthing

Is this a private chat room or can any one join in. I think this pub has the potential to be a goldmine. High population area, not many ( if any ) other decent pubs nearby and its huge with a good sized beer garden near the beach. What more could you want. I wish the new owners every success.

20 Aug 2006 21:27

Cafe Central, Worthing

If i'm thinking about the correct venue it's now called Edens. The previous poster must have been the owner because only he would describe his 18 stone frame as cute. Anyway I think this is the classiest place in town. The Chapman group that started all those years ago in the good old Mont just gets better at doing pubs up all the time. Good luck Chris, a really good development.

20 Aug 2006 21:07

The Burlington Hotel, Worthing

Gone but not forgotten The old Burlington once the home of Burlington Bertie, ( a very large gay guy that dressed up in edwardian garb most evenings to sing the song of the same name) is now a Chinese. Not any old Chinese but probably the best in town if a bit expensive. The old seafront bar mentioned below is now an Italian so you can pay stupid prices for a bowl of flour and water and pretend to be really classy.

20 Aug 2006 21:00

Broadwater, Worthing

Good sports bar, managers a Celtic fan who hates Man U so he cant be all bad. Not a bad place for a pint or even an evening. Fairly young age group but some oldies mixed in as well.

20 Aug 2006 20:52

Breakers, Worthing

Dont think this place is still open, if it is it shouldnt be!

20 Aug 2006 20:47

The Assembly, Worthing

Big chain pub, no heart or atmosphere.

20 Aug 2006 20:46

The Spread Eagle, Brighton

I was advised not to go in here, in fact a local guy told me that he wont go in even though he knows most of the people in there. I had to have a look for myself. I visited early on a weekday evening. I dont think the barman intended to serve me at first, but he eventually did without saying a word. The rest of the locals were loud, drunk and shirtless. I just had the one and will not return again. However I did pick up some decent hookey DVDs from the Chinese lady while in there.

19 Aug 2006 00:03

The Sidewinder, Brighton

Never eaten here but seems friendly enough. Cant stand sofas in pubs, there for falling asleep on in front of the telly when you get back from the pub not for drinking on.This is the sort of place I would go to for a pint not an evening.

18 Aug 2006 23:45

The Rose Hill Tavern, Brighton

Only just discovered this little gem tucked away in the back streets of preston circus but what a gem. I reckon you could film a WW2 movie in here without needing to do any thing to it. This place just reeks atmosphere. I can see the men in WW1 uniforms walking in the door having just got back from the trenches etc. etc. Sorry i'm begining to ramble but we have destroyed so many pubs over the years trying to improve them that its just so good to find one that slipped through the net. Oh, by the way, the beers good and the locals seem quite tame.

18 Aug 2006 23:40

The Pub With No Name, Brighton

Not worth the walk up but if your at the top of the hill anyway its quite a nice place. Mostly locals judging by the number of kids around when I was last in there but friendly enough and I must say the food looked above average.

18 Aug 2006 23:31

The Office, Brighton

Not bad, bit ordinary, nice location and beer garden but otherwise just another run of the mill pub.

18 Aug 2006 23:26

The Horse and Groom, Brighton

No wonder they call it the doom and gloom! after about half an hour in there I felt like severing my own head, what a bloody depressing place.

18 Aug 2006 23:17

The Hobgoblin, Brighton

I do like a pint in here during the day. Its an interesting kind of place with interesting customers but a bit too noisy for me sone evenings but a fine old pub in a fine old part of town.

18 Aug 2006 23:13

Henry J Beans, Brighton

As stated below, it is the hotel bar and its hotel bar prices. One drink in here wiuld get you 2 or 3 next door. Cant understand why anyone would want to drink here.

18 Aug 2006 23:08

The Heart and Hand, Brighton

Nice little street corner boozer, not really my cup of tea, bit gloomy for me but OK.

18 Aug 2006 23:05

The Geese Have Gone Over The Water, Brighton

OK pub, worth a visit but not an evening. Far better pubs around but still worth a pint or 2 one day when your not sure where to go.

18 Aug 2006 22:58

The Duke Of Beaufort, Brighton

Love this place! Very big street corner pub that is decorated as a pub should be. Traditional interior, clean, warm and friendly, people actually talk to strangers in here. If your ever in this part of town make an effort to get in here before some numb nut comes up with the idea of "improving" it.

18 Aug 2006 22:41

The Dover Castle, Brighton

I visited last on a Saturday night and while I did not think the interior decor was in keeping with the age of the pub, it did have a really good feel about it, a good, mixed age crowd and seemed very friendly.

18 Aug 2006 22:34

The Constant Service, Brighton

Good pub, not as good as some others in this wonderfully pub infested part of town but OK. Would stand out as excelent in another area.

18 Aug 2006 22:24

The Cobblers Thumb, Brighton

Only visited once but I have to give it an excelent rating. Good atmosphere, outside loo, very friendly. Well worth a visit.

18 Aug 2006 22:22

The Black Lion, Brighton

Bloody expensive and I dont like the decor, wont be rushing back myself but it does always seem quite busy so it must have something going for it..

18 Aug 2006 22:16

The Bath Arms, Brighton

One of the best locations in the city but not one of the best pubs. I use it sometimes during the day and occasionaly week day evenings for a swift one mainly because of where it is. Dont get me wrong, theres nothing bad about it but it is a bit ordinary for where it is. If you have never used it it's worth a pint or 2 but not much more,

18 Aug 2006 22:09

The Albion Inn, Brighton

One of my favorites in this part of town, older age group but friendly and a barman that remembers your drink weeks later. Just a nice old Brighton local.

18 Aug 2006 22:01

The Saqqara, Brighton

I have only visited during the day and I did like the Egyptian decor but I must admit I have been warned by friends that the women that frequent the place are top totty that are looking for guys, any age, that are loaded. So if you dont have an expensive motor and a city center flat you may as well pop up the Pav Tav where you can pull for the price of a Breezer.

16 May 2006 04:00

The Royal Pavilion Tavern, Brighton

All of the previous comments are true but it's cheap so it will allways be full of students.

16 May 2006 03:55

The Royal Oak, Brighton

Only visited once but I will definatly return. Good pub full of good friendly people and a beautifull little dog.

16 May 2006 03:54

The Rock, Brighton

really nice pub, 2 good bars and nice friendly people

16 May 2006 03:51

The Queens Head, Brighton

This pub has suffered from some bad PR. The Queens Head is Brightons number one gay venue but It's not this Queens head. Sadly there are two and I know several people who dont realise that another one exists in the dark back street of Kemptown and refuse to use the one outside the station thinking that it is the gay one. This is a fairly average pub with nothing in particular to recomend it but it is not the gay one.

16 May 2006 03:41

The Queens Arms, Brighton

Classic Kemptown gay bar. Allways busy when I walk past and has that pub smell about it but, as it's gay, I will never know what it's like on the inside.

16 May 2006 03:36

The Pump House, Brighton

One of the better pubs in this part of the lanes. Well styled and furnished, full of tourists as usual but still worth a visit.

16 May 2006 03:34

The Prodigal, Brighton

Huge and soulless, no atmosphere at the best of times but if your unlucky and catch a couple of stag nights / hen parties down from London for the night or worse, the weekend, this could be your idea of hell.

16 May 2006 03:31

The Prince Albert, Brighton

Bohemian and eclectic, several bars, as many styles as you can shake a stick at and a good atmosphere. Good range of people, ages but mostly students.

16 May 2006 03:28

The Pond, Brighton

I don't drink real ale and I have never eaten in this place so I can only comment on the facilities and the ambiance both of which were excelent.

16 May 2006 03:25

The Polar Bar East, Brighton

Big, loud, dirty, and expensive. Why bother apart from the giant TV screen with world cup coming up.

16 May 2006 03:23

The Foundry, Brighton

Not impressed. Just had that feel about it, you know that - I'll just have the one and move on somewhere else - feel. Barman charged me 1 more for the same drink than he charged one of the locals but I didn't bother saying anything. Don't think you would find me there on a Friday / Saturday night.

16 May 2006 03:21

Seven Stars, Brighton

Nice place, beer was good, plenty of better pubs in the area.

16 May 2006 03:16

The Northern Tavern, Brighton

I visited one Saturday afternoon when plenty of ale had allready passed the lips of the locals and I found it to be quite friendly and not a bad place at all. Just the luck of the draw I guess.

16 May 2006 03:14

The No Name Bar, Brighton

Nothing to shout about. OK but in an area where there is plenty of superior competition.

16 May 2006 03:12

Mitre Tavern, Brighton

Nice little street corner local. Worth a visit.

16 May 2006 03:10

The Mash Tun, Brighton

Very expensive for a student pub yet allways busy. Not keen myself but obviously plenty of others are.

16 May 2006 03:09

The Marlborough Hotel, Brighton

OK but a bit clicky. The main bar is lesbian and gets quite busy but the back bar is non smoking so is normaly very quiet. Cheap beer during the day but not sure why any straights would frequent this place as there are far better ones around.

16 May 2006 03:06

The Lord Nelson, Brighton

Top place. just go there.

16 May 2006 03:03

The Kings Arms, Brighton

Bit dirty but a good old fashioned pub. Older age group but very friendly, people actualy talk to you in here. Dog friendly, they have a couple of huge beasts themselves.

16 May 2006 02:59

The King and Queen, Brighton

What a pub. Or could be. It is a fantastic building but its dark and dirty and the gents is about the worst i think i have used in recent years. Can get a bit lairy when the footballs on so be carefull. The food looks good but I wont eat there because the general clenliness of the place makes me wonder what the kitchen must be like.

16 May 2006 02:51

The Jurys Out, Brighton

Tried this place several times but I just can't seem to get to like it. A modernised, plastic pub that has ripped out any Victorian interior it had and replaced it with an facade designed to attract the Am Ex people, except it doesnt. So you get the ageing rockers, local builders et al instead, sure their nice people bit it just does't look wright

16 May 2006 02:46

Hop Poles, Brighton

Not sure why this place is so popular. In my youth it was the spotted dog, one of Brightons first gay pubs so we wouldn't be seen dead in there. It's a studenty type place now. When i decided to give it a try, it took several weeks of evening visits before I felt it was quiet enough to get a feel for the place. Bit small and very ordinary, good food, apparently.

The Hand In Hand, Brighton

I have a confession to make, I dont get on with real ale, or rather it doesnt get on with me. So I must admit to being a lager drinker. But, this doesnt stop my praising this pub because it's just a lovely place to spend your evening.

All Bar One, Brighton

Sadly, I must agree with the negative comments below. No atmosphere, very expensive and not very good. I think it survives on the endless number of tourists that are attracted to the area because it sure wont survive on repeat visits.

The Great Eastern, Brighton

Love this place, just what you would expect from a pub in the laine. You just feel that you are home and could stay for a week or two as soon as you walk in.

The Mucky Duck, Brighton

Visited the other day, What a really atmospheric old pub, you know, one of those side street pubs you keep meaning to go in. Sadly, for me, it's another gay pub so I wont be going back, but if that's your cup of tea, I would recommend it from a drinkers point of view.

The Golden Cannon, Brighton

Can't belive no one has reviewed this pub. Good atmosphere, nice pub, good staff and loads of single women. Well worth a visit.

The George, Brighton

This must be good judging by the number of people I know that rave about it but I tend to go to a pub to drink not eat, so my perspective may be a bit differant. From a drinking mans point of view I found the pud cold, lacking any kind of heart or spirit that I would expect from a pub in this part of the city. I guess they don't need the drinkers when they get the eaters. I will take my daughter there one day as she's a vegan but i wont be in any hurry to do it.

The Fishbowl, Brighton

Strange place, very student orientated but friendly yet I didn't like it and have no intention of returning but I couldn't tell you why.

The Earth and Stars, Brighton

Good pub but I did feel a bit old in this one. OK for people about 30 years younger than me but the beer was nice if a little pricey.

16 May 2006 01:54

The Eagle, Brighton

I must admit I quite liked the place. It was during the afternoon and a bit on the quiet side but I didn't feel any ageism (i'm over 50) or maybe i'm just too thick skined to notice.
Nicely done out and worth another visit.

The Duke of Wellington, Brighton

What can I say? the 2 girls behind the bar were nice, the locals seemed surley and unfriendly and they had the blooy rugby on when I wanted the football.

16 May 2006 01:46

The Druids Head, Brighton

Ok for day trippers, but if you are a local I doubt if you would use it more than once or twice a year just to see if it has improved - it hasn't.

16 May 2006 01:44

The Druids Arms, Brighton

Seemed like a nice pub. Bit studenty for me but OK.

16 May 2006 01:41

The Dragon, Brighton

Its' OK. Thats about all I can say, some of the locals love it. I visited on a night when they had a rock group on and had to leave, complete with headache, shortly after. Why oh why do small pubs pay good money to groups that blast there customers straight back out the door. Is it because they are a crap group but you wont notice how bad they are with your fingers in your ears.

The Cricketers, Brighton

I'm not a chav or a Millwall fan but I go there some weekends. It's at it's best during the day or the quieter week nights. Can get far to busy otherwise. But it is a nice pub, shame about the prices but thats par for the course given the pubs location.

16 May 2006 01:35

The Colonnade, Brighton

Not a theatre goer my self but I do love this place when it's quiet. You just have to see it. It's either your idea of what a Victorian bar looked like or it's a plastic copy. I think they got it about as good as you can.

16 May 2006 01:30

The Caxton Arms, Brighton

Not the easiest to find but that keeps the day trippers away. Worth the effort, a lovely pub that deserves to attract more of the decent locals.

16 May 2006 01:27

The Battle of Trafalgar, Brighton

Paid a visit a couple of nights ago at a friends recomenation. Well worth it, abit crowded but nice feel about the place and good beer. What more could you want.

16 May 2006 01:21

The Bat and Ball, Brighton

Reading the other comments, I must have been lucky the night I was in as I found it fine. Yes, the locals had had a little to drink but I thought that was the idea. Otherwise it was OK, nothing special but noy bad.

16 May 2006 01:17

The Basketmakers Arms, Brighton

Lovely old fashioned type pub with a good atmosphere, every thing an English pub should be. Can get far to busy some evenings but always worth a visit during the day. One complaint, we live in an era of 24 hour opening and they just close to early!

16 May 2006 01:13

The Barley Mow, Brighton

Great little pub, just one of those place you feel at home in from your first visit, not sure why though.

16 May 2006 01:09

The George and Dragon, Tarring

Was the best pub in town when the owner ran it. Sadly he sold out recently to a local guy that has 4 or 5 other pubs and it shows. The thing that makes a pub good is the people that use it. That will depend on the people that are not allowed to use it. If you allow the local rubbish and pikeys in, all the good people will stop using it. unfortunatly, this is exactly what the new owners have done and in pursuite of a quick profit and it has destroyed the place. I refuse to use it any more.

The Rose and Crown, Worthing

I like this pub, one of my favorites. The Saloon bar is a Thai restaurant which is a shame realy as it was one of the best English restaurants in town. The public bar is a modernised version of real old fashioned bar and it actually works, good beer, good staff and a nice atmosphere.

15 May 2006 01:38

JBs, Worthing

Depends what you like.
The beers cheap but not very nice, the customers are about the same as the bear.OK.

15 May 2006 01:31

The Jack Horner, Worthing

This used to be the Anchor in my day. It was a bit of a dump back then but it was taken over a couple of years ago by a gay couple that cleaned it up. It is now Worthings only openly gay pub which is the reason I no longer frequent the place.

15 May 2006 01:28

The Alexandra, Worthing

Nice pub, well run. Public bar best , good beer, staff OK. Not in the best part of town but most of the local riff raff have been bared so it's now quite a nice place for a pint.
