The Prophecy Members Club, Wimbledon

It's a poisoned chalice, this location. Now it seems they've made it pretty much members-only which is a bit strange. Glad to see the back of it tbh.

Billabong, Wimbledon

Expensive and no tables available on a Saturday night as they're all reserved. Go to O'Neill's instead

Baobab, Colliers Wood

What used to be known as Baobab is now an Indian restaurant.

The Fire Stables, Wimbledon Village

Nasty place. Pretentious and overpriced. I won't be going back

The William Morris, Merton Abbey Mills

Lovely location, but that's about it. Cold white wine doesn't exist, and the toilets are always lacking hand towels/soap/loo roll. Service is appalling.

The Kilkenny, South Wimbledon

The white wine isn't very cold. But it is 14% so I am past caring

Duke of York, Surbiton

I had a lovely experience in here last night. The food was excellent and the staff were v helpful & friendly. Ten out of ten!

The Crown, Coniston

I love this pub. Much the nicest in the area, and not too pricy. Excellent food too :-)

The Donkey, Tilford

Adorable little quaint pub that has 2 donkeys. Very friendly owners and staff who let us park in the car park while we did a walk in the area, and came back for a delicious lunch. Highly recommended.

The Revolution Bar, Sutton

I don't know the bars in Sutton very well, but I did enjoy knocking back a few in Revolution not so long ago.
I did get rather frightened though when a guy (a stranger) at the bar bought us drinks - I was there with two girlfriends. My mates drank them and they turned out to be shots of chili vodka - yuk. I had hidden mine, pretending that I'd drunk it :)
But you don't know what a stranger is going to put in your drink these days. As a bar, I thought Revolution had a great cocktail list, and no, if you are a beer monster, you probably wouldn't appreciate it!

The Wibbas Down Inn, Wimbledon

It is now indeed a Lloyds bar, which means they've added tv screens and music (and DJs on Fri/Sat nights). In my youth I had great fun in Spoons, but if I go there now for a swift (cheap) one I spend my time people-watching, and wondering if I would have looked so "samey" when I went in there years ago.
The clientele in there nowadays seem to all dress the same!

The Prophecy Members Club, Wimbledon

Oh yes. What a transformation indeed. I was there on Saturday making my way slowly throuogh the cocktail list - what a list. And the music that they were playing was fab.
Highly enjoyable - shame that they don't stay open longer though. I would much prefer staying there than traipsing to the Shed down the road.

The Slug and Lettuce, Wimbledon

This bar is now open and called Magnolia. I went there with a few friends quite late on on a Friday night not so long ago and we were happy to find seating and no queues at the bar. Not to say that they weren't busy - There were also people there who were eating. Anyway I enjoyed the fruity/champagne shots and jugs of Pimms.
On the whole, it was an enjoyable night. Although I do think it would be the place you'd pop into after you'd had a few elsewhere.

Walkabout, Shaftesbury Avenue

Went there on Wednesday to watch some of the England game, and they had run out of Stella _and_ Budweiser. Before the game had even started. What a joke. I will not be rushing back there for a long time.

The Lass O'Richmond Hill, Richmond

I went there with my husband and a couple of friends on Sunday. We wanted to show the friends what a great place this was - we both have fond memories of great food and service. But how we were proved wrong. Since I was there last (a couple of years ago) it has swiftly gone downhill. The food was still great but it took about an hour to arrive, and they had run out of most roast dinners. Trying to get any member of staff's attention took about 20 minutes on average each time. And then they had the audacity to over-charge us! The cheek. I will not be rushing back. Yes to Jason!

Lady St Helier, Morden

Apparently LIDL are moving in, or so I've heard

The Brewery Tap, Wimbledon Village

Walked past last Thursday and it looks as if the Tap is being redecorated again. Men in overalls everywhere

The Prince of Wales, Clapham

Now known as the POW POW POW, they seem to have refurbished the sign outside but it still has all the tack on the walls and ceiling. Very quirky. Definitely worth a visit.

The Jolly Coopers, Hampton

Rather bloody good pub.

The Alexandra, Wimbledon

I have mixed feelings for the Alex. I feel obliged to go in there every so often as it's where my Dad hangs out after work. I resent giving the grumpy bar staff my money, and it's always too smoky in there. But where can anyone go that is not smoky these days?!

Now that they have revamped the bar a little there is a bit more space but I for one still wait ages to be served, even when it is not packed. Even after several (hundred?!) visits there over the last few years the bar staff make no effort in remembering the customers. Unless of course you are one of the ones who sit at the bar day in day out!

The food is unbelievable. That is, you pay up to 7 for what is basically a ham sandwich!

At the end of the day it's a typical Youngs pub, but I wouldn't say it's one of my favourites.

Suburban, Wimbledon

Also great fun for a boogie if you're into that kind of thing. Love it.

The Alexandra, Wimbledon

It cost me over 6.00 for two poxy drinks the other day. Ridiculous.

29 Jun 2005 14:17

Ganleys, Morden

I love Ganley's. It's my favourite pub (and it's my local). They have actually opened a beer garden at the back of the pub! Thumbs up Frank, we love you.

The Royal Oak, North Gorley

The woman at the bar seemed a bit rude - perhaps she was having an off day. Spent most of the time she was meant to be serving us chatting to her mates gathered at the bar - she didn't seem to like people who weren't local.

18 Apr 2005 15:51

Royal Oak, Fritham

Lovely place. There are at least 25 benches out in the garden, mental.

18 Apr 2005 15:46

The Fighting Cocks, Godshill

Located not too far from Sandy Balls, this is a family-friendly pub which serves a nice pint of Ringwood Best. Menu looks good. You have to watch out for the ponies and donkies in the car park - they don't seem to bat an eyelid to the cars! I bet it gets busy in the summer.

18 Apr 2005 15:42

Suburban, Wimbledon

Great atmosphere, staff who recognise you on your second visit, a cocktail list as long as your arm, AND two drinks for the price of one in the week. Cosy and charming Ten out of ten

3 Mar 2005 16:07

The Builders Arms, Kensington

The food in this beauty of a pub looks really good. There's a great selection of beers on tap, including one of my favourites Staropramen. If you are lucky enough to get a table upstairs, it is really cosy. (Worth booking in advance.) A gem of a hostelry.
