The Talking Heads, Portswood

As a pub it's a great music venue.

The Chilworth Arms, Chilworth

Refurbishments have killed the character of this pub. OK for eating or a quick lunchtime half.

Bedes Lea, North Baddesley

Run-of-the mill estate-type pub.

10 Jun 2005 13:13

The Grapes, Southampton

One of the few unspoilt pubs in this area. Nice beer, nice food, good vibes.

10 Jun 2005 13:12

The Old House at Home, Romsey

Keep coming back to this pub for the great beer and friendly atmosphere. Recommended.

The Star Inn, Romsey

Tiny, atmospheric pub. Former brewery tap bar.

10 Jun 2005 13:08

The Abbey Hotel, Romsey

Average pub, just a short stroll from some much more interesting ones. Ample seating and function room for hire.

10 Jun 2005 13:07

The Newport Inn, Braishfield

Near-legendary venue for lovers of great ale (Gales) and home-made food like your mother makes.

10 Jun 2005 13:05

The Bishops Blaize, Romsey

Uninteresting pub in a town that boasts some great ones.

10 Jun 2005 13:03

The Tudor Rose, Romsey

One of the most popular pubs in Romsey for serious beer lovers. Tiny, but a true traditional 'sawdust on the floor' establishment. Worth squeezing to enjoy great beer and a traditional ambience.

Willows Wine Bar, Southampton

Unpretentious wine bar in historic area of Southampton serving good cheap food and drink.

10 Jun 2005 12:57

The Spinnaker, Swanwick

A spacious pub with a high-class restaurant out-back. Generally unremarkable and popular with some of the local yachting crowd.

10 Jun 2005 12:54

The Elm Tree Inn, Swanwick

This is an excellent semi-country pub. A first class range of real ales, friendly bar staff and delicious food. The garden and exterior of the building are a little run-down, which adds to the charm.

The St Denys Hotel, St Denys

Good honest backstreet pub.

The Red Lion, Bitterne

Unmemorable pub in local shopping centre. Nice for an early-evening drink or for shoppers looking for a swift lunchtime half.

The Monksbrook, Chandlers Ford

Excellent unspoilt locals pub with excellent choice of traditional ales and the usual facilities (pool table, Sky TV, etc.) I'm told the food is good too.

Cleveland Bay, Chandlers Ford

For an 'estate' pub The CB is OK. Beer and food is fine, but serious drinkers should take a short walk to The Cricketers or The Monks Brook.

Cricketers, Eastleigh

This pub changed hands a couple of years ago (2000-ish) and has now lost of a little of its character. That said, the range of real ales is excellent as ever, and the current owners are trying hard to create a welcoming atmosphere. Popular with the scooter and bike brigades in the summer. Plenty of outdoor seating. Still recommended.

The Big Cheese, Bitterne

Chain eaterie, nice venue for families, but public bar can get a little rowdy.

8 Jun 2005 13:21

The Fox and Hounds, Southampton

Traditional 'spit and sawdust' pub for those who appreciate that pubs are for drinking and not for eating, listening to music, enjoying the view, etc.

8 Jun 2005 13:18

Fishermans Rest, Titchfield

Nice traditional pub with views of Ticthfield Abbey. Recommended for a quiet evening or lunchtime chat. Food a little insubstantial, but reasonable range of beers and friendly staff. Can obviously get busy at touristy times.

8 Jun 2005 13:15

The Avenue, Southampton

Excellent city pub with a student feel, serving a good food and a nice range of real ales. Can be busy and seating is limited, but well worth checking out.

8 Jun 2005 13:10

The Parsons Collar, Whiteley

New-ish pub, clean with nice beer and helpful staff. A little short of atmosphere and food slightly expensive. Nice outside seating area, families welcomed.

8 Jun 2005 13:07

Talisman, Southampton

Large pub, a popular lunchtime haunt for nearby office workers. Good food, nice beer and friendly staff. Can be a little hard to find a seat in the summer, though there is extensive outside seating if the weather is fair.

8 Jun 2005 13:05

The Master Builder, West End

Nice range of real ales. Good food. Caters for the older clientele.

8 Jun 2005 10:44

Humble Plum, Bitterne

Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff and the landlord keeps a good pint and a nice selection of guest ales.
