The Pub With No Name, Brighton

Top of the range & top of the hill. You'll need a drink after the walk up Southover Street. Food now extended to 9.30 in the evening - even on Sunday.
New chef adding lots of new (non mexican) dishes to the present Mexican menu. Southover Street is a pub crawl on it's own. Start here and work your way down via the Charles Napier (real ale/locals) Dover Castle (young crowd/huge menu)and end up at the Greys (excellent food/beer/music)

The Railway, Merstham

The locals pub. This became the 'works' local when the Feathers over the road, changed hands and became run down (it's changed hands again & is much better). My favorite memory of this bar was the on going quiz on our first visit. A bra was pinned to the bar - with sign saying "Guess how many ponuds in Jilly Jugs" I'm not sure if anyone ever one. Split into 2 bars in the old Saloon / Public bar fashion.

The Tom Cribb, Piccadilly

Nice little 'real' boozer. A dying breed.

7 Sep 2005 12:47

The Eagle, Boston

Good selection of beers - nice crowd. Gets crowded in good weather

6 Sep 2005 13:46

The Evening Star, Brighton

Very handy for Brighton's 2 Porn shops - both a few yards away.

6 Sep 2005 13:43

Blackboys Inn, Blackboys

Lovely pub. The Black Boys weren't inn when I called by. There used to be a savage dog - but in all fairness that was about 20 years ago so even if he still about he won't be up to much.

6 Sep 2005 13:19

The Ostrich Hotel, Robertsbridge

The sort of pub you wish was your local.
Fine wines, Good beer, Excellent interior, Bohemian selection of regulars, English country garden,Saucy prints in the Gents & a rusting MG in the car-park.

The George and Devonshire, Chiswick

Perfect for watching the cars go round Hogarth Roundabout as they shot off down the A4/A3. Still spit into Lounge/Public Bar - although there is little difference now in decor.
Can mean you have to wait for the staff to finish their conversation in the other bar before you're served - It dosen't matter which bar you're in.. they'll always be in the other one!
Locals & members of Iron Maiden frequent.

The Royal Oak, Royal Oak

This used to be the roughest pub in Queensway. Full of theives, prostitutes, roughs, old soaks, queens & the entire staff of Tower Records - run by an ever expanding Irish family.
I once turned up to find most of the windows put through, chairs & tables smashed, broken glass everwhere, regulars lying all over the place blooded / battered. The whole pub had got into a fight with some travellers.. It was like a battlefield.
Did this stop them serving..of course not. Coleen served me a pint as she wiped the blood off the optics.
You don't get service like that these days.

The Daniel Gooch, Bayswater

Wonderful old flee pit. Distictive ceiling.

9 Aug 2005 13:23

The Dover Castle, Brighton

Worth it just for the extensive food menu. Large portions too. highly recommended. Holsten on tap.
(the table with the crater has gone)

9 Aug 2005 13:17

The Greys, Brighton

Top of the range
(but not top of the hill, which is useful)
An all star line up..
Mike on the sounds
Spatz on the stove &
Chris on the beers.

Keep it up fellas.

The London Unity, Brighton

Nice pub. Aviod the food.

9 Aug 2005 13:02

The Lamb Brewery, Chiswick

This pubs been refurbished more times than Joan Rivers.
But hey, she's a game old bird.
Bit like this place, past it's prime - but still going through the movements.

Do people really go to the pub to order tea?

8 Aug 2005 14:19

The Western Bar, Edinburgh

Don't bother - nip over to the Burke & Hare.

3 Aug 2005 14:05

The Burke and Hare, Edinburgh

If you fancy a quiet pint, whilst nubile young ladies strip & pole dance - within a modest pub setting.. this the joint.
All the girls are extremlly friendly & pretty.
For a few quid extra, you get your own dance in the privacy of one of the, admittedly large, broom cuboards (with full legnth mirrors).
An Excellent night out. Just remember not to touch!
Far better than any others in the area.
Thanks Girls.

The Flying Scotsman, Caledonian Road

You wouldn't believe this if you saw it in a movie. It's the closest you'll get to Jack the Ripper. Excellent. And yes chuck 'em a pound.

3 Aug 2005 13:51

The Setting Sun, Brighton

This pub has possibly the best view in Brighton. Sadly it seems to have fallen on hard times. Most locals avoid it now - Shame.
ps rating is for just the view in this case.

6 Jul 2005 14:02

The Montreal Arms, Brighton

Landlord always wears shorts.

6 Jul 2005 13:57

Sir Charles Napier, Brighton

Excellent if rather small garden. A hidden gem. Only comfortable for about 8. I'm normally there with my mate on a sunny Saturday, so aviod if you're a party of 7 or more. Larger groups could arrive after dark when I've gone home, possibly.

6 Jul 2005 13:56

The Constant Service, Brighton

I took 'em at their word & turned up at 3 in the morning.. there wasn't even a light on, so much for constant service.

6 Jul 2005 13:50

The Walmer Castle, Kemptown

Only down side to this pub is ordering fish from the menu.. you feel the beady little eyes of the marine life in the 3 huge fish tanks, wondering if it's their mate Charlie you're eating. Good beer. Loud decor. Friendly service. and if you aviod the fish, great food. The outside seating is on Queens Park Rd.

6 Jul 2005 13:46

The Kings Head and Dive Bar, Chinatown

If you didn't get round to visiting.. you missed out.
It was the sort pub that is fast disappearing. Spainboy is right in saying that, the Dive never really recovered from the death of Terry.
He was the Dive Bar.
The final drink was rammed & the bar drunk dry. Down in the Dive it was very sad to think it was all over.

4 Jul 2005 13:47

The Blue Posts, Piccadilly

Excellent Pub - 'good old fashioned boozer' Simple yet tasty food. The Beatles had their picture taken outside, when recording near by... the picture is behinf the bar, well it will be when they get round to putting it up.

4 Jul 2005 13:25

The White Cross, Richmond

Who does the pictures for these pubs? Rather better looking than the picture suggests.

21 Jun 2005 14:55

The Slug and Lettuce, Richmond

The picture sums it up. Rather dull. Go next door to the White Cross.

21 Jun 2005 14:50

The Cuthbert, Brighton

Very close to Chris & Jen's. Small grass covered garden.

20 Jun 2005 15:31

The Horse and Groom, Brighton

A long since departed landlord owed money to some London Gansters.. he thought he'd be safe away from the smoke until one day..a plastic bag, with his mates head in was left on the bar. The pub was knick-named the Horse & Gloom after. People tend to get legless there these days.

17 Jun 2005 14:56

The Juggs Arms, Kingston

What was once a beautiful bozzer is now just a shell. With original fittings ripped out, replaced by a bland facsimle. Staffed by robots. Terrible food. Always packed.

17 Jun 2005 14:44

The Old Parrs Head, Kensington

Rather bland Pub, but with very good Thai food.
(although I did once have a fish dish that smelt of the giraffe house at London Zoo)

17 Jun 2005 14:34

The Old Custom House Hotel, Padstow

The night I was in, I met a guy who'd run away from his wife in Liverpool. He seemed a bit miffed that the landlady wasn't too keen on spending the night in his tent with him. He suggested she did'nt have to stay the whole night, and that she could get a cab back after. After what, I never found out as his eyes glazzed over and he slid off the seat & onto the floor.
I moved tables. I saw him the next day, still asleep in a rowing boat in the harbour.

17 Jun 2005 14:29

The Bat and Ball, Brighton

It's got a huge Bat & Ball stuck on the front. Not much else to recommend it. In fact don't bother nip 25 yards along the road to the Winkle, which thankfully dosen't have anything but sign out front

17 Jun 2005 13:46

The Bridge, Birmingham New Street station

I love beer.. but I sat on the platform with a bottle Vat69 rather use this 'pub'

17 Jun 2005 13:42

The Sloe Bar, Victoria Station

Nothing special, but then it doesn't pretend to be. Its a quick drink before you jump on the train to the seaside, served by some of the tallest barmen in SW1.
The code to gain access to the toilet is 2369B

17 Jun 2005 09:14

Molly O'Grady's, Victoria Place

Utterly souless. The whole of the mall above Victoria is like a bad nightmare, full of lost souls. with four other bars within the station, there's no need to use it.

17 Jun 2005 09:08

The Badgers Watch, Peacehaven

I've been here many times and never seen a Badger, or his watch for that matter. Big 'garden' with huge view of the channel, but it smells - (could it be the Badgers?)Food is big & chunky, but not very tasty. The girl who served me had lovely shoes.

16 Jun 2005 16:29

The King and Queen, Brighton

A huge barn of place. Looks like the set of Robin Hood, expect to see Errol Flynn come charging down the stairs, having a sword fight with the Sheriff of Nottingham. Go to the Gents on the extreme left of the main bar and re-appear 10 minute later & 400 yards away on the extreme right of the pub. Worth a quick pint.

16 Jun 2005 16:24

The Basketmakers Arms, Brighton

I was there last with my mates noisy little girl, she had a wonderful time, winding up old CAMRA queens. If these people are to be aloud in pubs - please let them loosen up... Did you know, there are 'hidden' messages in most of the tins that are nailed to the walls. Well there were before someone read this an took them all away.. maybe it was that sinister CAMRA chap. GREAT PUB.
