Victoria, Newcastle under Lyme

This is a great pub. Always busy with a wide range of customers and very good beer.

Well worth a visit.

The Coachmakers Arms, Hanley

Popped in last weekend to this wonderful pub thinking it could be my last visit.

The landlord informed due to the recession the Coachmakers may be safe for another couple of years as the proposed development has been postponed.

28 Mar 2013 13:15

The Queens Head, Rye

I think the couple who turned this pub around have left, which is a pity.

28 Feb 2013 16:54

The Southwark Tavern, London Bridge

Not a pub I go to when in the LB area. But my partner was looking for somewhere to eat so we popped in for Lunch. Very good with friendly staff. Food was good and reasonably priced.

28 Feb 2013 16:47

The Turf Tavern, Oxford

This pub went down the tube's years ago as soon as Green King got hold of it.

A great shame as it used to be a great pub.

11 Jan 2013 16:36

The George and Dragon, Swanscombe

Paid my first visit last week and was most impressed. Very friendly staff and locals and great beer. The best new pub to open in Kent for years.

19 Nov 2012 18:09

The Post Office Vaults, Birmingham

Excellent place with very friendly staff.

31 Oct 2012 11:26

The Lamp Tavern, Birmingham

Popped in after the festival last week. Great to see Eddie back. Pub was packed
and the new beers were excellent.

31 Oct 2012 11:24

The Coachmakers Arms, Hanley

Popped in last week. Truly heartbreaking that this pub is being knocked down.

THe destruction of the Potteries continues. Visit this pub before it goes

31 Oct 2012 11:15

The Royal Oak, Rusper

I and 25 other CAMRA members visited this pub on 13/10/12 on our annual bus trip.

Everybody I spoke to on the trip said what a fantastic pub the Royal Oak is and could not understand why the local CAMRA branch did not put it in the GBG 2013.

If the local CAMRA branch had a difference of opinion with the Landlords, that is no excuse for them to exclude this pub from the guide and deprive visitors to the area a chance to visit this real ale Mecca.

I hope the local CAMRA branch will explain on this forum why they behaved in such an arrogant way

To conclude, make sure you visit one of the best pubs in the South East of England.

16 Oct 2012 13:27

The Three Chimneys, Biddenden

I have not been here for years. Have just been told they would not let a coach load of CAMRA members in for a drink (most of them over 50, so they could hardly be lager louts).

I would suggest that people boycott this pub if that is their attitude.

6 Oct 2012 17:58

Conqueror, Ramsgate

I have been here a couple of times and enjoyed my visits. However I cannot see how this has become the Kent Pub of the Year.

I don't consider micro-pubs as proper pubs due to their limited opening hours and also most are not open 7 days a week. MPs are just small bars with a couple of chairs and tables in and a couple of beers on sale. If I was a publican in Kent I would be very annoyed that this pub has won CAMRA's POTY.

Good luck to Colin, but the Conqueror and other Micro pubs are not the real thing.

4 Oct 2012 15:09

The Bear Inn, North Moreton

Perhap I should declare an interest and say the landlord is my second cousin. I made my first visit while the pubs beer and cricket festival was on in July .

This was the best run pub festival I have ever been to. Great beer and food and some excellent cricket. What more does one want.

26 Sep 2012 17:56

The Foundry, Canterbury

My first visit this year and it gets better and better. Very friendly and informed staff great beer and excellent food.

11 Aug 2012 10:39

29 Jun 2012 15:56

The Bell Hotel, Staplehurst

Passed this pub a couple of weeks ago and it was closed.

29 Jun 2012 15:52

The Coachmakers Arms, Hanley

My favourite pub in the Stoke area. Great beer, friendly staff and locals and a throwback to a different time. Am amazed that this pub is under threat but seeing how Hanley has been destroyed over the years nothing surprises me.

23 Mar 2012 13:03

The Leopard, Burslem

A huge place. Would love a showround. Well worth a visit.

23 Mar 2012 11:52

ghreat selection of beers.

10 Dec 2011 14:03

If there were only more pubs like this.

Great beer at reasonable prices, friendly service and excellent food.

Make sure you pay it a visit if you are in the area.

14 Oct 2011 09:41

The Lamp Tavern, Birmingham

Just read in the local CAMRA magazine that Eddie the landlord was attacked during the riots. Glad to see this wonderful open pub again.

For those who have never been there, you are missing a treat.

A great pub and a great landlord

Popped in with some friends a few days ago and the GI was as good as ever. The landlady even provided some nibbles for us.

19 May 2011 16:30

The Man of Kent Ale House, Rochester

Popped in yesterday, excellent as always.

Take no notice of the CAMRA pub of the year awards for Kent. This pub is the best pub in Kent for the real ale drinker.

14 May 2011 16:01

The Good Intent, Rochester

Popped in yesterday and as always got a friendly welcome. I can't think of to many unspoilt 1960 s pubs in the South East but this is one of them.

The beer is always good and reasonably priced

One or two comments suggest that the Good Intent is in some dodgy area, nothing could be further from the truth as my parents lived very close by for 15 years.

Well worth a visit.

19 Feb 2011 13:05

The Boat and Horses, Newcastle under Lyme

Beer range average, but very friendly landlord and customers. Worth a visit.

18 Feb 2011 11:40

The Greyhound Inn, Newcastle Under Lyme

Came here for the first time last night. What a great surprise. The beer was great the locals were very friendly, as were the staff. Handily placed for some great curry house. Popped back after eating and it was very busy.

The GBG undersells this place. Make it a must visit if you are in the area. An example of how a pub should be run

17 Feb 2011 13:35

CASK Pub and Kitchen, Pimlico

I think this is a great pub and doing great things for the beer scene in London.

I was in there last night and the place was packed why then did they have do have music blaring out at a loud volume making it uncomfortable for people drinking near the bar. I am not some grumpy old man as i go to many gigs in London. Music was not required.

17 Feb 2011 13:31

The Man of Kent Ale House, Rochester

21 Oct 2010 12:34

The Southampton Arms, Gospel Oak

Fantastic pub with a great atmosphere. Why is it not in the GBG 2001. My only advice is get there early because it can get very crowded. We will be back.

I popped in last night for my first visit and was told it was closed for a private function. I will not be back.

15 Oct 2010 09:53

The White Swan, Aldgate

Nothing really special about this pub except for the pice of the Master Brew which is 3.00. a bargain compared with deepest Kent where its brewed. Why is that?

15 Oct 2010 09:50

The Pride of Spitalfields, Shoreditch

First time in for about 10 years and its still great.. Why are there not more pubs still like this.

Just a shame the the chippie down the road has shut

19 Aug 2010 12:46

The Fat Cat, Colchester

Paid my annual visit after the cricket and sad to say this pub has not improved. It lacks atmosphere and more surprisingly the beer I had was not very good.

I love the other Fat Cat pubs but this one does not come up to scratch compared with the others.

Another great Digbeth pub. Very friendly staff. Make sure you visit here the Lamp and the Anchor when in Digbeth

5 Jun 2010 12:37

22 May 2010 17:17

The Phoenix, Canterbury

Popped in acouple of weeks ago after the cricket and was a bit dissapointed.

Only had 3 Greene King and Charles Wells beers on. I hope the new landlord gets it right. I did however see a For Sale board on the wall outside which does not bode well. This pub could be a goldmine if the right people took it over.

14 May 2010 12:19

The Spitfire, West Malling

Not my cup of tea as a pub, but had an excellent pint of Early Bird.

4 May 2010 16:45

4 May 2010 16:42

The Lobster Pot, West Malling

A very sad situation as this was a thriving town pub New landlord's keep coming iand going. The barman was watching the tv and playing with a video machine during our visit, to be the fair the ale was in in good condition.

I hope Punch Taverns sort this pub out and get it back to it's former glory

Great pub with some great ale. Food was very dissapointing, but don't let that put you off

23 Jan 2010 12:33

The Rifle Volunteers, Maidstone

I suggest that Alehead starts engaging with Alan. He really is quite affable and I also suggest he tries and visit the Rifle in the evening. Like many other pubs Alan has lost a lot of lunchtime trade. Try and go on a Thursday night when Maidstome Rowing club are there.

The prices are the best in the area and the lunchtime food Mon-Fri offers fantastic value.

15 Apr 2008 19:00

The Bull Inn, West Malling
