The Fox And Hounds, South Godstone

Cracking pub! Visited today be pure accident on country drive. Very polite and hospitible staff and landlord. The green king ipa was superb! Roaring log fire, a la carte menu, a pleasant beer garden. Am very chuffed with my fin d and am planning on another visit nest sunday for lunch!

Black Horse, Hookwood

A really nice mock country pub I have visited quite a few times. The food is always good for your money and the ales were kept well. The landlord always seems narky and not exactly welcoming which is the only downside. It has a good safe childrens play area in the garden which my godson loved. I have found myself coming here more and more simply as is the best around the area.

The Foresters, Horley

Sparse choice of beers, no real ales, a nice threat of violence when you enter and beer always split everywhere. Decor is poor and the intelligence of the patrons could be questioned....naff pub, no atmosphere...unless you fancy a fight

27 Aug 2008 19:36

Ye Olde Six Bells, Horley

Been here twice now and had good meals both times. The food was jolly good and not overpriced. The downside is the choice of ales of which there aren't any, just lager, lager, lager.... Oh and a large queue to get the larger. Ambience is nice, staff are polite, and nice beer garden. Prob one of Horleys best pubs , if a little hidden away.

Air Balloon, Horley

Food is mega cheap, place is always empty, but is VERY kids friendly pub with a decent enough playground in the beer garden and a wacky funhouse. YOu get what you pay for - not best for a night out but good enough to take your kids to if you fancy a pint.

The Gatwick, Horley

Well kept beer and a hidden beer garden was a nice surprise this summer. Had a pint of Hopping Hare and it was sublime in the sun. Doesn't get busy during the day but does seem full of regulars who give ypu a bit of eyeing up thus making you not feel so welcome.

??? on the pricey side? well considering the quality of their ales I am happy. i don't think they are pricey at all? where else serves a decent pint of beer? The Garden house sometimes has Speckled Hen on , but it's always off! I don't recall ever having a bad pint in this pub and I go there at least once a week. The place is friendly, has good crowd what more could you want?

The Castle, Tooting Broadway

Pleasantly surprised by this place - well lit, no drowning music, decent views for the sport, a well pulled pint of Youngs, polite bar staff - a most enjoyable trip. The place seems full of regulars as oposed to passing trade and nice to see a pub with plenty of tables and chairs - well worth a visit.

The Manor Bar & Grill, Tooting

After 2 attropcious visits here in the past months I walked past on Sunday and heard the live music and popped im. It has certainly changed (for the better I might add) The music was great - some old geezers playing blues/jazz etc great atmosphere so I thought I'd stay for a pint. Now the place has a good few people in (looked larget large groups/parties) and only a few people standing at the bar to be served. Shouldn't take long to get a pint then.....ah...one bar staff seemed more interested in constantly adjusting his hat in a mirror, another decided to take a call on a mobile, and a third kept reappearing/disappearing to/from somewhere. Took a while to get a pint - multitasking or basically delivering an order of drinks is obvioulsy very taxing, i was one of 3 people waiting for more than 10 minutes!!! The blackboard claims guest ales, except none were on, so had to settle for a poorly pulled pint of their regular ale (Speckled Hen I think - I may be mistaken)(nice 2 inch head). I really appreciate the owners efforts in trying to stamp their own identity on this place and in some ways I am warming to it. But in 3 visits I have always experienced poor service, but the place is getting better

As I resident of Colliers Wood I've watch this place grow in popularity. The garden area is great, the fire pit is an interesting attraction (what red blooded male doesn't enjoy watching a good bonfire whilst supping ale?). More and more things to do keeps this place interesting from the sunday quiz nights to the new friday night poker league.

I've started loving this place and the friendly staff more and more lately, so much so that last weekend we held our engagement party there. The management were thoughtful and very helpful, the food was perfect, plenty of staff on, the dj was great!

My only gripe is whenever I come in the Deuchars is off! ;-) Apart from that it's a great pub that is a welcome addition to Colliers Wood. The pub is starting to find its own identity

The Kings Head, Tooting

Went here on Saturday night for a couple of beers and was shocked to see it's quite empty. Nice big tables, lots of space and room, not smokey at all, the bar staff were polite. Not a great selection of beers. My main gripe would be the lighting - it's so bloody dark in there!

11 Sep 2006 14:53

Walkabout, Putney

Even writing a review is a waste of energy...a soul sapping ecuse of a drinking establishment - the only saving grace is that all the arseholes end up there and away from ther rest of the public....

The Queen Adelaide, Wandsworth

Been here a few times now - good food, good selection of beers and the bar staff are helpful. The place is well laid out and has a no smoking area. It's comfy, good lighting - more foody than pubby. My only gripe is the food doesn't always live upto expectations as described on the menu. I orederd chicken pie on sunday - looked great - but had 2 small pieces of chicken in and that was it....the rest was leek. Sonme of the staff don't speak english too well which makes complaining a waste of time - I don't want to be a nusance. Yopu get served quickly and everyone is polite.

The Spirit Bar Cafe, Tooting

This is actually one of Tootings finest hangouts, as local drinker I do look forward to my trips there. The staff do try their best, and the place has a small local feel. Last night I had a couple of cracking pints of Flowers Best Bitter. The only downside is it's gets hot without the doors open and it's VERY smokey - apart from that it's great.

The William Morris, Merton Abbey Mills

As Colliers Wood resident I was initially over the moon when we discovered this place hidden nicely on the river at Merton Abbey Mills. It looked great (at first) then it several things shattered the dream of finding a great new pub.
Firstly the service, 3 people behind the bar, 2 having a nice chat, and had to wait along with others for service.
Secondly, when ordering a glass of wine for my lady we got a filthy glass (even with lipstick on it) when this was pointed out we got shit service.
Thirdly, does anyone collect glasses in this place?? From either inside or outside?
Fourthly, the place literally fills with smoke from smokers - if you want to enjoy being by the windows on the river or have a decent seat anywhere be prepared to suck smoke all day. The non-smoking room is nicely hidden to the front with no atmosphere.

I was initally excited to see some good ales on the pumps - until I was told not of them worked - except the Youngs - to be fair it wasn't a bad pint.

This pub has SO MUCH potential it is staggering - it looks great at first and it's location is great - a real hiden gem - it just needs someone to turn it around.

The Trafalgar Arms, Tooting

HWhat happened to this pub? It used to be great, very cosy and welcoming - good beers and comfortable. Went again the other daya nd the quality of the ales was awful, the decor has gone to pot. Service was slow. Place was dirty.

This used to be great friendly drinking establishment, now it's gone downhill rapidly....

avoid.

Rehab, Colliers Wood

Went to Rehab again last night. Leaving the food aside (which was fantastic and great value) I must say that it quite refreshing having the Amstel beer on tap. The bar are is separate from the dining area and is actually very chilled. Plenty of other drinks are availbale from wine to spirits and the most rfreshing aspect is the intamacy of the bar. You can sit at the bar and drink and chat , no shouting neccassary and the service is brilliant. The waitress smiles, and brings you beer quickly, everyone is polite. Am loving this place more and more - a quite secret drinking hole me thinks it is fast becoming!

28 Jul 2006 11:22

The Manor Bar & Grill, Tooting

Considering what a shambles "The George" was before I thought anything would be an improvemnet. I have now visited this establishment twice in 2 weeks being a Colliers Wood local resident(giving it a chance to grow on me). The decor is vast improvement HOWEVER:

1. The service was terrible on both occassions - not even busy with 3 staff on, seemed too involved in having a natter. Asking politely for a pint was returned with a sneer.
2. Total ineptitude to pull a pint of the guest beer (a welcome surprise I thought)but no....
3. Any chance of having any beer that isn't cloudy? ever heard of cleaning your pipes?
4. The prices!!! Jeez, for a pint?
5. Expensive food when you consider the plethora iof food establishments in the area - 10.95 for a burger?

It appears that this pub seems to think it is located in Shoreditch or Clerkenwell, where I am sure the demand for wifi access and hip music is all the rage.

At this rate it'll be closed by christmas and be reincarnated into something else in February next year.

I hope to be proved wrong...my advice head down the road to the Colliers Tub which is growing on me every visit.

The place is getting better. Guest ales are appearing (horrah), the staff are friendlier, the place is becoming more cosy and has a good sunday crowd

22 Dec 2005 11:22

The Piano Lounge, South Wimbledon

Not a pub, but very chilled bar with wine bar beer prices, the food is good, not overpriced. The only downside is I've never seen it with more than 10 people in it....worth a visit. nice selection of wines as well.

22 Dec 2005 11:18

The Royal Standard, Colliers Wood

Good do with a refit! I was originally over the moon to find Abbot Ale in Colliers Wood, however 2 pints later discovered they don't know how to keep beer - it was awful. Shame....it's in aprime location opposite the tube and should and could be so much better....

22 Dec 2005 11:11

Venus, Colliers Wood

It's like drinking in legoland the place is so small! Lacks any charater, seems morelike a coffee shop, staff are friendly enough though.

22 Dec 2005 11:09

Rehab, Colliers Wood

Not rweally a pub, more a bar restaurant. The food here is fantastic and great value for money- the wines are affordable and the staff are so welcoming, everyone from the waitress to the bar staff. A great chilled place and the place gets better and better with every visit

22 Dec 2005 11:07

Baobab, Colliers Wood

The food is pretty good here, and great bbq's in the summer. Same the garden is on the main road, cocktails are good, no real ales but you can't have everything. Certainly one of Colliers Wood's two finest drinking establishments....

22 Dec 2005 11:04

The Slug and Lettuce, Putney

The only good thing about this place is that all the chav's , media whores and knobs of putney congregate here leaving the the rest of putney free to enjoy...

22 Dec 2005 11:00

Zulus, Putney Bridge

The place now looks like a shed....no atmosphere, slow service, what a shame.....

22 Dec 2005 10:58

The Larrik, Putney Bridge

Destination for aussie's , kiwi's and south africans....avoid, its gouing downhill , nuff said

22 Dec 2005 10:57

The Cedar Tree, Putney

Not sure if it's a pub. The food has got better, poor slection of beers and wines. Good pool table area at the backa nd it's quite cosy. It's certainly improved - oh and it has a pointless "beer garden"

22 Dec 2005 10:53

The Railway, Putney

A prime location pub, and it's your typical wheatherspoon pub, cheap beer and cheap food, no music, spacious etc Upstairs always smells funny though....you get what you pay for and to this it delivers.

22 Dec 2005 10:52

The Whistle and Flute, Putney

Noisy, no atmosphere, small range of beers and bad seating. Ok to stop by at for a swift one but move on...

22 Dec 2005 10:47

The Jolly Gardners, Putney

Probably one of the best pubs in Putney as it's off the high street. Good food, good array of beers, you can easily spend a whole sunday in there kicking back with the papers, have lunch, watch some sport...it has laid back feel. Bit like drinking in Clerkenwell.

Oh and please can someone stop the influx of antipodean bar staff in putney....

22 Dec 2005 10:46

The Fox, Putney

Worth a visit ot watch sporting events but it does get rammed.....not the most comfy of pubs, more like a bar, lack seating, rubbish beers....adequate food. Probably Putney's best venue for sport, until the new Walkabout (urghhhh) gets going at the bottom of the high street.

22 Dec 2005 10:41

The Gunnersbury, Chiswick

It's like visting a student union bar....nuff said....
the food is cheap, not that bad, and the beers are all mainstream - every cheap lager under the sun it seems.... decor sucks....its ok for quick drink but that's about it...oh and whilst it has 2 bars you can only get service at one of them....pointless...

22 Dec 2005 10:34

The Hole In The Wall, Chiswick

The food is pretty good, not outrageously priced and a couple of ales to choose from. Plenty of large tables to drink away and have a chat. It seems lacking in atmosphere, but is always clean and hospitable. Good for a long drinking session where you don't have top shout to have a conversation.

22 Dec 2005 10:31

Connolly's, Chiswick

A good cheap pub, (compared to most in Chiswick) with no arrogant pompous clientelle. Very down to earth, friendly staff, ok selection of beers....sport is always on (good), and the food is excellent value for the price. The mixed grill is HUGE! Lots of seats, admittedly at dwarf height, ok pub for lunchtime crowd.

22 Dec 2005 10:27

The Hope, Wandsworth Common

I've seen this pub change so many times over the past 10 years...this time it's for the better in my opinion if you want a decent ale, good wine selection and even good range of spirits. The food is ok but a little pricey for pub food, but then there isn't that much competition in Wandsworth Common. The food service was slow, especially between courses, and trying to eat can be a little crampt. The decor seems to be reminants of its 5 past lives....still its far better than when it used to be a Firkin pub.....

Go for ales....

22 Dec 2005 10:07

The Old Pack Horse, Chiswick

What a change! Good beers, cosy place, especially when the fires are going, prompt service and friendly staff, plus a thai restaurant. Speedy delivery of food and at a good price for the lunch crowd. Have found myself frequenting here more and more....

1 Dec 2005 16:08

The Wick Inn, Hove

At first this place seems like a nice secret haunt, however then you soon discover that the resident drinkers are in fact all very stuck up....not enjoyable....oh and it takes aaaaaaggggggeeeeeeessssss to get a drink, which is surprising as the place is TINY

1 Dec 2005 16:01

The Hop Pole, Wandsworth

Great pub, a true irish jem (if there is such thing in london)

21 Sep 2005 16:53

The Ship Inn, Wandsworth

great pub for a sunday, chill outside, good bbq's, nice conservatory to read the papers - does some cask beers, but seems to attract yound trendy professionals at the weekend.

nice place but not that cosy

21 Sep 2005 16:50

Ghillies, Wandsworth

Not really a pub, but serves decnet wine. Wouldn't eat there again - last time I got food poisoning.

20 Sep 2005 15:03

The Pilot, Chiswick

Nicely hidden away it can great when the garden is open. However, horrendously overpriced beers, and staff with any drive make it a forgetable experience. The food is pretty good, though pricey. It also seems to attract more and more Estate agents for some reason. Worth a visit, but only to move on to somewhere afters.

20 Sep 2005 15:01

The Bollo, Chiswick

A really good wine selection and good beers make this a good lunchtime pothole. The food can be expensive (8 for a burger!) however they do some cracking other meals and meal deals. A peaceful atmosphere with friendly staff. Itt's pricey, but sometime you have to treat yourself don't you....

20 Sep 2005 14:58

The Hope, Wandsworth Common

Great beers!!! A real variety! However a shit atmosphere and staff that never seem to know what they are doing means a lower score. It's a real shame - I've seen this place change so many times I think everyone's confused. Unfortunately it's one of the few affording places to eat in the area which the chef seems to have capitalised on meaning dull, uninventive, over priced food. A real shame as the beers are excellent.

20 Sep 2005 14:53

The Spirit Bar Cafe, Tooting

Even though this place is tiny, it's a real gem. Friendly staff and good beers and spirits on offer, plus plenty of seating. Not much standing room, and can get very hot & smokey at night. Plenty of room to chill out back, and good views of plasma screens for the sport.
My only complaint is that they'd turn the ruddy music down in the back room so you don't have to shout to communicate.

20 Sep 2005 14:51

Hoochimama's Bar Bistro, Tooting

Nice chilled bar, worth a visit, can get some poncey clientelle, but the staff are friendly, good beers - shame it isn't bigger.

20 Sep 2005 14:47

Footlights, Wimbledon

Awful, avoid, only go for the happy hour if you like watered down cocktails in a smoke filled dome. Best thing about is that tourists go there meaning they won't be where you are drinking.

20 Sep 2005 14:45

Bar Sia, Wimbledon

Great bar, like a mini Clerkenwell bar in SW19, seems to get absolutely rammed at 11pm though....a nice change of drinking hole and a bit trendy. - gets bloody smokey though (well you would in an underground bath wouldn't you)

20 Sep 2005 14:43

GJ's, Colliers Wood

Whilst the comedy nights are great, and something new to Colliers Wood the choice of beers are awful, it seems to be a haven for more and more antipodeans to come and get pissed and act like louts.

The food isn't great and it has about as much atmosphere as the moon. The only nice area is to the left when you come in (leather sofas, fireplace in an offset room. Channel Ex (extreme sports)always seems to be on, and it does show sky sports.

Lack of any character ranks this below any All Bar One...poor pub

20 Sep 2005 14:41

Charles Holden, Colliers Wood

A welcome breath of fresh air to Colliers Wood. A fantastic beer garden, nicely spacious, and they've made a real effort with the plants to create a cosy atmosphere despite a giant pylon overhead.

I went when it had just opened and the staff weren't very good and hopefully they'll get some guest beers in. The only beer they had was Courage Best, and then a choice of largers. It's getting busier in there each weekend I pass it so they've obviously got something right. The lighting is good, and seems friendly enough. Whilst the Victory (it's old name) served cheap beer and was an eyesore with cheap meals , shit atmosphere, the Tup seems to have addressed all the problems.
