The Star / Leake Pit House, West Leake

Recently re-opened this pub has been transformed - all for the better. Rooms have been knocked through to create a large bar area with a good selection of beers, lagers and wines. Food is available- and looked good. Hopefully after a chequered recent past which has seen many tenants come and go, the Pit House is back for good.

The Plough, Wysall

Easily the best pub for miles around.Great beers (and a huge selection), great wines, excellent bar staff, lovely fire in winter and superb garden in summer. Forget the previous posting -this pub is dog friendly!

The Nags Head, East Leake

Went into the Nags last week and great wine is back - the horrid wine pump has gone and the Pedigree was excellent. Well worth the visit - fab pub.

Cap and Stocking, Kegworth

Bass from the jug. Harvest Pale Ale, Doom Bar and Wells Bombadier on draught. All well kept. This pub is hard to find, but don't let that put you off. Hidden gem. Should be in the CAMRA beer guide.

The Nags Head, East Leake

Went there on a snowy evening, and with the fire on it had a really nice atmosphere. This is the best pub in East Leake with a real charm, but the beer range (Abbot and Pedigree) is a bit limited. For the wine drinkers I'm afraid to say that this comes out one of those vile steel pump contraptions, so consequently you feel pretty rank the next day - just like the wine . Bring back wine from the bottle and I'd go more often. On the plus side the bar staff are really nice and its a very friendly pub.

The Swan In The Rushes, Loughborough

Is this the best pub in Loughborough ? - probably, with The Padget a close run second. You can't fault the quality of the beer and the choice of ales plus the staff are excellent.

Plough Inn, Loughborough

Oh dear.... I think the reviewer who said it was a dive was being kind. My other half said his pint of beer was good. I didn't stop long enough to find out.

Horse Chestnut, Radcliffe on Trent

Excellent pub and the food looked and smelt great. Lovely wood panelling and the Library area had a nice fire. Batemans XB was good on the night and there was a good range of real ales on too. Well worth a visit.

The Duke of Hamilton, Hampstead

The Seafarers is excellent, but there is no atmosphere at all and you do feel all eyes upon you when you walk into a silent pub. Despite advertising Sky Sports the poor chap who asked for the TV to be turned on was rebuked by the Landlord saying no as he didn't like football!
On the plus side this is definitely a working class pub... maybe they just don't like the tourists.

Spaniards Inn, Hampstead Heath

Reading the reviews this is definitely a hit and miss pub. When we visited all the continental beers were not available but theTaylors Landlord and Harveys Sussex were good. You risk life and limb doing the dash across the road to get to the pub. Overall.... a bit soulless.

The Holly Bush, Hampstead

Brilliant - love this pub! Great atmosphere here, with lots of seating and cosy rooms with candles (the real fire in September was a touch too hot though!). Beers were really well kept and included Seafarers, Harveys Susssex and Butcome. Bar staff are excellent and ensure that everyone is served quickly in this busy pub. This has to be the best pub in Hampstead.

The Doric Arch, Euston

This pub missed the spot for me but the Butcome was well served and kept. Bit odd that you need to know a code to use the loos, but I guess they get a lot of people coming in from the station to use the facilities otherwise.

The Bree Louise, Euston

This pub looks to be packed out all of the time - but it's not surprising given the location and excellent choice of real ales. When we visited there were 16 beers on split between hand pump and gravity. The Slaters Original was excellent and all beers were top quality and well served. Plenty of staff behind the bar means that you get served quickly and CAMRA members get 50p off a pint.

The Hollybush Inn, Makeney

Well kept real ales including Landlord and Pedigree (the latter is served from the jug & was the best my other half says he's had), open fires, snugs, and the Pork Pies looked fab.10/10.

The Old Harkers Arms, Chester

Brilliant pub. Plenty of choice of well kept beers for my real ale loving other half and a stack of good wine choices for me. Packed on a Friday night and rightly so.

The Mill Hotel, Chester

Huge selection of beers, well kept and well priced - particularly for a hotel - e.g pint of Weetwood for 1.95 (thought that was a mistake until the second pint at the same price).

The Bear and Billet, Chester

Good selection of well kept beers. The pub is full of character both inside and out with additional seating upstairs. Something for everyone here -with a good choice of real ales, cider, etc and decent wine (a first in Chester for me!).

The Albion Inn, Chester

The reviewer who went on 22 March must have gone before 6pm as The Albion was alive and well when we visted on 3rd April. Fantastic interior with William Morris wallpaper and it feels like war-time britain! We didn't eat but the food looked good. There were 3 good beers on but the beer was a bit cold. The no children policy is brilliant - if only more pubs were like the Albion.

The Nottingham Arms, Tewkesbury

Traditional real ale pub with a good range of well kept beers. Worth a visit.

Tudor House, Tewkesbury

Amazing building on the Tewkesbury High St. Accommodation is also very good. Good range of real ales (4) - Speckled Hen looked like the regular beer. Food looked good value. Lovely garden to the rear

The Twelve Bells, Cirencester

Good range of well kept beers - The Session was particularly good. A proper real ale pub.

12 Apr 2009 16:16

Bathurst Arms, North Cerney

Good country pub - a lovely garden with a river at the bottom. Only 2 real ales on when we visited. Food is nice, but expensive for what you get. Staff and service were good. Accommodation clean and good value.

The Marble Arch, Manchester

'Great pub' sums up the Marble Arch. The organic Ginger beer is fantastic and they had a good range of beers on. If you only go to one pub in the area, this has to be it.

Bar Fringe, Manchester

Having read the reviews we nearly gave this place a miss - what a mistake that would have been. Despite the other comments on this site the staff behind the bar were great. Huge choice of Belgian beers. Great music. Give it a try!
