A decent, well run pub with a choice of Thwaites cask ales.

Regular customer for around 14 years now and seen many changes, new and permanent management after a lot of chopping and changing over the past few years.

Three constant and Three seasonal cask beers on at all times, plus a real cider and a fair range of fizzy stuff for those it interests. Thwaites house so beer choice is restricted but the seasonal beers change every 2 weeks or so and are always well kept.

Besides the beer, though it is all about the beer of course, food is served seven days a week and is all freshly prepared with no microwaves or 3663 trucks to be seen! Live music Friday and Sundays with a large back room, DJ on a Saturday. Back room can be partitioned and hired out in different portions for functions of any kind. Beer garden is second to none in Bury when the sun comes out and dogs always welcome.

Front "old" part of the pub if quite literally the oldest pub in bury and I suspect for some miles around, cask ales, malt whiskeys and a relaxed real pub feel. It is almost like two different pubs at times and should offer something for everyone.

Another Thwaites pub, tucked away opposite a church, but nextdoor to one of Bury's two Wetherspoon joints, the Two Tubs has a fair amount of character. All of the ales were from Thwaites. Some were their experimental beers. Wainwright, Original, 13 Guns, Lancaster Bomber, Columbus Brown & Yule Love It was the choice. The fact that a Christmas beer was on means the beers probably don't turn over that quickly. Cider was Old Rosie. Locals in the front bar were fairly friendly. There is a lot of seating in the rooms beyond, with another separate bar. Was offered a free half of the Original as they'd had to pour half a pint of each ale for their Cask Marque inspection.

If your in a hurry dont call in this pub , called in today , ordered meal , took forever to arrive , got a coolish cup of coffee after waiting and going back to ask for it ,the wrong order was brought ,for one person, the others had finished eating when correct order arrived , when the chicken came after a very long wait it was burned on the bottom . and was not good .non of the staff seemed in the least concerned ,we where only there for the day .will give that one a miss next time.yes we did buy drinks at the bar as well .

Well here I thought"A Thwaites pub.Probably only keg and certainly no mild".How wrong I was.Full range of Thwaites cask beers including Nutty Black mild. The food portions looked huge and it is a great old pub in one of the oldest buildings in Bury.
