Smaller Wetherspoons located conveniently next to bus stops for the standard Wetherspoons clientele of smelly old men / drunks / dole queue scroungers to access the pub easily to keep up their alcohol intake. Having said that this is quite a friendly pub, not too full of the aforementioned undesirables although maybe I was just there at the right time?! Foot and beer are of reasonable quality, worth an inspection. Contrary to what the websites say, this place closes at 11pm most of the week with a late licence only on Friday and Saturday nights.

Good grief! If your website can't even spell the surname of one of Trowbridge's most famous citizens, I utterly despair. It's Sir ISAAC Pitman, dammit!

Excellent selection of ales, probably only trumped by The Stallards. Well kept beer with Cask Mark. The people and the place leave a lot be desired, but then this is a pub in the 'heart' of Trow, so you can't expect too much. Pick the right time and its good for a few well kep beers. Pick the wrong time and you'll be surrounded by angry little wrongun's, old drunks and people spending their hard earnt dole money.

Very friendly, if rather tired-looking 'Spoons, with mixed clientele and average standard beers (a sensible range, given local preference for lager).

Quick visit at 11:30am on a Saturday - place was busy but not packed. Standard 'Spoons but better than average beer range.

Had a look in yesterday whilst wife was shopping.
Fairly tired looking Spoons with Abbot,Ruddles,Milk St Funky Monkey and Okells Smoked Peat Porter on at under 2 a pint and a couple of pumps with *coming soon* on them.
I had the Okells which was ok but no better.
Pub very busy at 2pm on a Sat afternoon.

Wetherspoons have a formula which you either like or you don't.
Some Spoons are better than others.
This one is satisfactory and I would visit again.

Good value compared to others spoons @ 1.99 for guest ales still, friendly and quick service(even on carnival night when i called in)quaffed a pint of moles"mild" and duchy "organic", both well kept so pretty happy with the visit, 7/10 deffo

Visited for a swifty on the way to getting wet on both the outside and the inside at Devizes beerfest.

Hidden "Ace" was a winner but was only moderate, dunno if it was the cellarmanship or the brew. Gem,Mr Perrets and something from Box Steam were also on,along with the Spoons GK etc regulars. Place was tidy enough, bogs were ok(not up 4 flights!) and the barman serving was swift. Full to capacity at noon on a Saturday so you can draw your own conclusions.

wouldn't use the wi-fi in here, never get out alive with the laptop.

how wetherspoons aren't embarressed to call this one of theirs i'm not sure, would be fine with more staff, staff who are actually interested in serving instead of talking amongst themselves, staff who can actually work out who is next to be served especially when its quiet, also needs more lighting, its like walking into the black hole of calcutta. Oh and one further problem, the customers............

Fantastic - nothing better for a night out on a Friday or Saturday in Trowbridge
mooose - 13 Dec 2006 12:17
Very very crowded on Friday and Saturday nights - a mixture of old men and young teenaged and early 20s locals who come here prior to going to Chicago Rocks. Lovely if you like that kind of thing...

Just getting grimmer...
StephenS - 11 Oct 2005 01:31
Soulless is getting there. Grim would be good, s followed by a three star rating would be spot on accurate. Sir Isaac would, I'm sure, understand the shorthand. Yes, they got beers. You can drink a pint of Marston's or even something fairly local for about 1.39, Reasonably acceptable. Coffee is the best and cheapest in town, about 85p a bucket, big tick for that.

But do you truly wish to spend your time among rather flushed people with body piercings and tattoos? Carrying out heated arguments over betting slips at 11 in the morning?

And how Wetherspoon's will implement their no smoking policy here is anyone's guess (I speak as a smoker, but a well-behaved one)
anonymous - 9 Jun 2005 01:23
So far as dirty wetherspoon's go it's not bad. At least they have good local guest beers. Even if it is souless.
