A decent local just across from the Gosport ferry. 3 Sharps cask ales and food served at reasonable prices. If you''re in Portsmouth, it''s worth catching the ferry across and paying a visit.

We found this pleasant enough, and the ales were as expected.

Almost all the seatings were set for dining however, even though only a few tables were in use for that purpose. It wasn't clear what the purpose of that was, really. Older people do not generally want to stand at a bar to drink.

We sat at a table for our drinks notwithstanding. However when I went to the bar again at 2230 on a weekday, I was told that time had been called, though none of us had heard it. The locals were all stood there with new full glasses, and so it seemed unnecessary in this day and age. I'm not sure what was behind that.

It's one of the few surviving Georgian buildings in that part of heavily-bombed Gosport, though.

5.5/10

Well, they got new bar staff now. All young girls and all very pleasant and helpful. Food is of good value and quality. Adnams and Doom Bar, well kept. This is an unpretentious pub that delivers. Good beer, good food, good and pleasant service. If you are in Gosport marina it is left out of the marina gate, about 20 yards. Free wifi also, rather than the Spectrum available in the marina at 6 or 7 quid for 24 hours. Check your forecasts here.

Excellent pub, good choice of ales and wines. If you order food be prepared to be eating for a long time - the servings are massive. Food is served until 10pm in the summer. Gets busy at weekends, full of us sailors!

Easily the classiest pub in Gosport town centre, lots of yachtie types drinking in there, especially at the weekends, so the atmosphere is generally convivial. The selection of ales is pretty good, and the food is a welcome change from the McOutlets and kebab shops along the high street.

It's a bit more expensive than the other pubs in town, but in this case you get what you pay for. Also very handy as a meeting point off the Gosport Ferry, it's certainly a lot better than waiting in the dismal reminder of the paucity of '70s architectural talent that is the bus station.

Well worth a punt.

Great pub, amazing considering the shockingly bad quality of any local competition! Pretty mcuh exclusively populated by yachties from the Camper & Nicholsons Marina next door, well kept 6X and London Pride and very good food, in almost ridiculously sized portions. An oasis. Go.
