please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Not been in here for years. On the outside it looks a bit shabby but inside it has the look of a heritage pub. Good range of real ales and German/Belgium beers. Opening times are four weekdays and twelve on weekends. Easily the best pub in Hyde.

good selection of beer but totally dead on a saturday night at 8.30. i was surprised the beer was in such good nick considering the apparent lack of turnover. Maybe it gets busy on monday nights.

Called into The Cheshire Ring last night for a pint. Tried the Beartown Kodiak Gold and Polar Eclipse beers. Both were superb and on great form.
This is one of the two best pubs in Hyde, the other being The Sportsman.

A 2 minute walk from Hyde Central station and well worth it. As people have commented it looks a bit rough on the outside but the beer inside makes up for that. 7 handpumps and a landlord that knows his beer. Had a ginger beartown beer and it was spot on. When my local team played Hyde i went to the Sportsman near the ground i am changing now to this great pub.

Great pub, pleasant licensee (who makes excellent curries!) and a good selection of beartown beer |+ guests + cider and fporeign beers. Something for everyone then.... some interesting bands on upstairs at the weekends too, top names too.

Called in The Cheshire Ring last night and it seemed to be business a usual, I am glad to say Great range of well kept beers were on offer, plus a new addition of a range of tasty pies as well. Brilliant!!!

Unassuming urban gem near the canal and railway station. Very attractive tiled corridor with an L-shaped bar room off to your left, and a worn-in lounge and games room with pool off to your left. 4 Beartown beers plus guests from around the UK. Had Tom Woods' Summer Days and it went down a treat. Just the ticket after a walk from Marple. Worth the trip out from Manchester if you've done all the pubs there.

From the outside this looks like a down at heal boozer but dont be put off and inside you will find an excellent range of beers from the Beartown Brewery together with a well thought out selection of guests ales.We sampled the Aphrodite from Milton Brewery and Honey Spice from Sharp's ,both top notch.A great place for a session, very close to the Peak Forest Canal and an interesting interior with a drinking corridor on entering and an L shaped bar to the right.Friendly welcome from a very affable barman who certainly knows his ale.Spot on.

The Cheshire Ring never, ever disappoints. Several of the excellent Beartown beers are always on offer, along with an ever-changing selection of quality guest ales. Beer quality is always on song and at reasonable prices too. A brilliant alehouse, and is highly recommended.

The Landlord is keen to please and does his best to keep a good range of beers. Usually has 3-4 Beartown beers, plus 2-3 guests and cider/scrumpy. Good selection of foreign beers too. A good knowledgeable crowd of beer drinkers frequent when open at lunch times. On the downside the pub needs some investment on a refurb. It is a big pub and a lick of paint won't restore it to it's former glory. It has a general feeling of an edge of town forgotten pub. Well worth a visit if you are in Hyde.

One of the best oubs in Hyde for a friendly atmosphere and just generaly a good place to be.

This pub should be Hyde's favourite drinking establishent, but a couple of things seriously let it down. Firstly is the disgusting state of the toilets. They are simply awful and, being crude but honest, skid marks and stains linger for weeks or even months. They aren't actually grotty toilets in design. Nothing special, but their real problem lies in the simple absence of cleaning and basic maintainance. The lock on the sit down (Not that I would use it these days) has been missing for.... Actually I can't remember it ever having a lock!

The other big minus for this pub is the fact that the landlord likes his own products far too much for the good of the pub and totally fails to appreciate how offputting this can be and how much it impairs his ability to be a good host. Nothing against a landlord enjoying a drink, but being so obviously the worse for wear from mid afternoon to closing is not the way to run a pub IMHO.

Having said all this, top notch beer and a friendly atmosphere. However, I would visit far more frequently if these little faults could be resolved as they ruin an otherwise good experience.

I agree with everything Hydeman says not only about this pub but everything else.

Rate this pub 10 to keep it at the top where it belongs

very sensible pub, bit like me. not visited for a week but beartown beer definately on top form. Love the 'NO SWEARING' policy, the nearly silent music and and quiet quizzes. You won't find any drunks, workers or half naked women in here, therefore the 'Best Pub in Town' as well as the most ****** borin'. I like this pub. If the missus or boss phones me on the mobile to see where I am it's so quiet they'd never guess I was in a pub.

Worth travelling to visit... I travel all over.. All over Hyde

An excellent pub, easily the best in Hyde. Good selection of beers and the king of crisps (Tayto's if you have to ask).

Decent music and I'd give it a 10...

A pub with 7 handpumps and Cider,
No doubt you will be visited by a 6' 7.75" personage VERY soon.
TeeeCeee - 19 Jan 2005 19:22
I apologise to anyone who thinks this entry is pointless but although I've not been lucky enough to visit the pub yet, from my experience of Duncan & Rachel's previous ventures I can guarantee the this is a great pub! See you soon - Luv Monty

another great pub i visited during my hols in england. some great brews of which i sampled a few serves the top notch german beer krombacher. dont understand why some people pay the earth to drink alcoholic orange juice, but no worries in the cheshire ring its a baby juice free zone
james stoker - 4 Sep 2004 17:32
This pub has been transformed since it was taken over by The Beartown Brewery - decent range of their beers and a large range of foreign bottles too. A welcome addition to the Hyde drinking scene - keep up the good work !
bob mason - 15 Aug 2004 01:05

A real local's pub with 7 handpumps featuring Beartown Beers (Congleton), guest + real cider/perry. No jukebox, silent fruit machine, real food, no 'childrens beers', genuine welcome. Very close to eponymous canal.
