user reviews of the New College Arms, Eton

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I don't think Hall & Woodhouse (Badger Beers) gave this place long enough to establish itself as a pub, so now its gone - try the Watermans Arms for a good selection of real ales.

Sorry Last Post should have read " Morocan" NOT "Mongolian"
Bitter_Man - 28 Apr 2011 11:54
Pub definately now gone for good and operating as a Mongolian Restaurant
Bitter_Man - 26 Apr 2011 18:57

Pub now confirmed and re-opening as a Mongolian Restaurant

Shame it will no longer be a pub because this is a building of character.

This Pub has definately CLOSED for good. Re-opening in the near future as a Restaurant. Turkish I think, but definately not the run of the mill Countries. Just what Eton wants!!!!! NOT

Passed by on Friday 3rd September and it appears to be closed, but there is no notice to let you know what's going on. Hopefully, new management will be taking this one over...

I have to change my review from October 2008.

Beer - overpriced / poorly kept. I have on more than one occasion had an upset stomach from this.

Service - Manageress has an attitude and is argumentative. She clearly has not grasped the concept of the 'customer being right'. The staff as a rule are all rude so at least they're consistent from the top down.

Toilets - on my most recent visit, there was excrement on the wall. What more to say here ?

I will not be going again. Ever.

Full of Polish people, you would think you had wandered into a pub in Staines rather than Eton. However, it has a certain dingy charm

Still the worst and most Expensive pub in Eton High Street.
However NOT the worst Pub in Eton. That Honour goes to The Watermans Arms. Which used to be a great pub in the 90's.

This pub could do so much better. For a start, its beer prices are way to high in relation to other pubs in the area. The selection is'nt great either.
service is hit and miss with some staff watching the many tv screens in the place instead of punters waiting to be served.A hello, pleace and thank you would also be nice too.The toilets ar'nt great either. There is a small court yard garden out back which is nice in the summer and the foods not bad, just a shame it gets a bit cramped between the bar and the seating area down one side.It can get very noisy on weekends if theres sport on.There are newspapers to read just dont try reading them if theres a match on.

A stony-faced Polish barmaid charged me 3,15 for a pint of reasonable Brakspears, which can be had for only 2.70 in the far more comfortable Henry VI just along the road. A background noise of whining children and dodgy music added to my displeasure.

A decent pub, but too expensive. They're clearly trying to exploit the tourist business (which is plentiful), but this does not help joe public who want to drop in for a pint. The London Pride is well presented, but the range of beers on offer is poor. Not the most comfortable pubs for sitting in either, but it's ok. You probably won't be disappointed, providing you can get over the prices. Regarding the comments about the toilets, that is most certainly not the case now

Nice medium-sized pub with a dark-mahogany style interior. Serves what I would consider cheaper and higher quality food than most in this mega-affluent/tourist area. Has a good reputation for its beer; but if I was being picky, could do with a little more choice. The landlord is one of the most laid-back and friendliest in the business.

Sport being shown on several small screens but no sound - what's the point. One of the most expensive pubs in Eton. Sort of place you have one and move swiftly on..... Friendly but foreign (Polish) Staff. unless your desperate and loaded I would't bother.

really like this pub has good beer and food and shows the sport, but has gone down in recent months with a big change in the staff.try the pride it's some of the best around, and if hungy try a sandwich!(great vaule)

This place has the fixtures in place to be a great pub but it falls well short.

The ubiquitous London Pride, Sky Sports Extra on the screens with no sound and toilets that smelt like someone had left a brown parcel in a bag underneath a radiator.

Not impressed at all!

Agree with the statement below. Very laid back pub - both staff and clientele. Introduced myself to Brakspear here. Well worth a visit.

I have only recently started going to this pub but have to say I am really impressed. I stopped drinking bitter a couple of years ago as was getting fed up with all the nitro keg which seemed to have infiltrated everywhere I drank. However the London Pride in this pub is awesome and has turned me back onto the Bitter. Nice and easy going atnosphere and as it seems to be an undiscovered jewell can always get a table. Bar staff are friendly and look after you well. Now realising that I should have played this pub down or on a Sunday night they'll all leave the Henry VI and drink here...Arse.
