user reviews of the Castle, Old Isleworth

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

New owners since the start of the year who apparently stay on the premises. The premises are open as normal without serving food as the kitchens are currently being renovated and extended. Still two decent ales plus a guest beer or two plus the usual lagers and ciders.

Staff friendly and so are the locals but if you want to be alone there are plenty of quiet corners. Bt Sports and Sky shown and plenty of outside tables. A good local pub.

Brilliant. For the first time in the last 3 years, this pub started something good. Been here several times and i am impressed, good beer with 2 real ales constantly and a guest ale almost each week. I tried their Sunday Roast and it's beautiful. Very friendly and well trained staff, consistency, very clean place, always checking the glasses when the serve the drinks. I don't know much about the Pub's history but it seems to be a really good place to go out for a drink with friends and for a lovely atmosphere.

In her last Saturday for the first time in years and I agree with bigalfish1 below.
Just after 2.00pm and I am the only customer although others come in later.
4 Hand pulls with one blank the other 3 all Youngs beers:-
Bitter, Humming Bird and London Gold.
I try a pint of the later and it is very nice and cost £3.40.

This pub has gone through some tough times, but is most definitely turning a corner. Went to watch the rugby, for the few people that were there, very friendly, Johnny behind the bar very efficient and polite and poured a good pint of youngs. Interestingly, they serve now indian food, the old, english and thai partnership rarely works, but this has to be a winner, fantastic indian dishes, promptly served, great selection and even better value for money....I am told the sunday roasts are good as well at £9 a head and a £5 for the kids.

You want sport, a pint and an indian at the bar with friends.....the place to go. Thanks, keep it up and you will be a success again.

After a couple of years with different guvnor every week we now have someone who knows how to run a pub along with decent staff.
Nice new menu along with India food fresh cooked as an option.
Nice to see all the old faces starting to come back to the Castle long may it continue...

My first visit to the castle for a while. The pub seems to have quite a facelift since i was last there, youngs beer which was ok, food ok but needs some work.
Still found it not a very welcoming pub, allthough the staff were fine. The WCs need to be cleaner, Seems to be on the up since my previous vist.

I popped in here for a pint earlier this week and was greeted by the barmaid as If I had been drinking here for years, but it was my first visit - Fantastic. Youngs Ordinary and Special were available along with lots of lagers.
The pub has high ceilings and is fairly open plan so it is not very cosy, especially when it is sparsely populated. The adverts playing through the speakers from the radio didn't help.

The 2 seating areas outside are on either side of the car park which in turn is just off a reasonably busy road so it was a little noisy.

I did spy a very small pool table in one corner of the pub and there is a small conservatory in the opposite corner (if my memory serves me correctly).

I didnt really find this pub to be anything special.

Debbie * Tracy moved out in the new year.

The pub is now under new management, with excellent beer, great new food menu, evening entertainment and more to come!

It's a great pub with a friendly atmosphere, and if there's anything you'd like to suggest to the new staff, they'll be happy to listen :)

Under new management - new landlord's given the place a bit of a spring clean.

Pub appears to be up for sale again - the estate agents board outside has re-appeared.

Are Debbie and Tracey moving out ?

Visited on a quiet Saturday lunchtime. Decent beer, nice food (what I had was home made). Decor is fine, not been done up too much :-) Deserves to be a bit busier than when I was there.

I am Debbie and I took over the pub in June with my sister Tracey, so come down and say hello! You will find a warm, friendly welcome with all staff being members of our family. Why not try our delicious Sunday Roasts served 1 - 4pm for just 6.95, or join in the fun with our quiz night every Thursday at 8.30, or our new Poker Night on Tuesdays at 7.30 (starting 25/9/07). Enjoy live football and rugby with both Sky and Setanta Sports shown. Families and Children welcome.

Further to my previous posting, pub has now changed hands - the new tenants are called Debbie and Tracey. Internally the pub has not changed much, although I note that the leaded frosted windows have been replaced. Food features more, but this is still very much a pub, infinitely preferable to The Swan, which is now an All Bar One clone-pub.

Traditional Youngs pub on the H37 bus route in Old Isleworth. It feels a bit run down now I'm afraid to say - the carpets are looking distinctly worn in places - and I note that it's now up for sale as there's a Fleurets estate agents board outside

Great little local.
Youngs beer usually good.
Still had a pool table the last time I was in there.
Andrew_Smith - 5 Dec 2006 12:02
proper pub, sunny, pretty garden. by time Young's did a refurb, especially the outside

Pat is very nice and the grub is brilliant - especially Sunday lunch. Some may need to turn a blind eye to the shenanigans that occur in the loo near the pool table, but otherwise a good vibe.
