3 of us enjoyed excellent meals (starters, main meals and desserts). The scallops were beautiful, the venison wellington was the best I have ever eaten, the partridge also excellent. Only one minus the restaurant was too cold needs to be warmer in winter.

Not bad. Staff are friendly and helpful.Beer's okay, but this is the sort of place people come for lunch or dinner. Food's pricey and a bit hit and miss.Had a Sunday roast here and the roast spuds were very poor, although everything else was fine.Had steak and kidney pud and chips in autumn 2010, which was very nice. They allow dogs in certain parts depending on how many are in already. Seating outside with pleasant views. I'd go again.

Beer could be better. The menu promises good things but the food is obviously not prepared by a chef, rather a cook without knowledge of how best to bring flavour out of dishes. The food was flavourless and badly conceived - I won't be going back.

The pub has just changed hands [early Feb 2010] all I can say is that the change has been seamless. I was a fan of the pub when it was run by Peter and his team. Under the new couple, the welcome is warm the beer in good form and the food excellent.

The Happy Chatter bar still appears full of chatter and dogs still welcome in parts of the pub.

While so say it is expensive, I still feel it represents value for money.

You get what you pay for! Worth every penny. For a fussy eater like myself, it is worth paying an extra couple of quid for something well cooked and tasty. We have been there on several occasions and never had a bad meal. We are even treating ourselves for xmas day and cant wait!!!!

We eat here fairly often, and every time, it has been fantastic, good home cooked country pub food, always fresh, and well presented! ( I don't get the two previous reviews, saying it wasn't good, I feel you should give it another go, as normally, they service and food is great). they have a decent size beer garden, overlooking fields, that during the summer months, fills with classic cars, I think the first Monday of the month? phone them to check? Great beer, great food, great service... 7/10

Ok so this was a terrible experience. Food was slow and the pub wasnt that busy, when the food came some portions were huge and others so small they looked like a starter. Meat on the lamb was tough and fatty, veg cooked to within an inch of it's life and thrown into a large dish so it looked like yesterdays veg but so mushy it could have been champ. Really was lookig forward to eating here as we don't get out too often, very dissapointed.

Having heard high praise of this establishment my wife and i were eager to dine here. Our starters were at best adequate.the main courses : pork goulash in which the meat was so tough as to be inedible accompanied by a dish of microwaved veg which had been excessively reheated rendering them virtually dehydrated!! My stilton and broccoli tart had a burnt pastry case and an accompanying salad was finally offered three quaters of the way through my meal. The saving grace was the lime brulee which was excellent. We found this to be over priced with very little ambience.

Recently took some friends to dinner here and was impressed with the food and service. Also a good selection of wines. Agree food is a little expensive, but worth it for special ocassions.

Took my Parisian outlaws here on Sunday, and they absolutely loved the place (400 year old pub), and more importantly the food. The Pave Steak was perfectly cooked as requested; "Senial" (rare), and the duck breast was "extraordinaire". A fantastic review from the toughest food critics in the world.

High priced food but quantity and quality is very good. Staff are friendly and willing to take time out to talk to you. Good car park. Suitable base for a pub walk.

Fantastic Beer. Excellent food if a little bit pricey for Dorset. Public Bar with a few 'characters'!
