The Green Man, Wimborne

Small car park. Good decor. Good beer/cider. Reasonable food. Excelent base for pub walking. The Green Man is a pub specialising in Wadworth ales, usually 6X and Henry's Original IPA, though they also do guest ales occasionally. The present landlady Linda Flowers has turned the pub back into the style of a country town pub. The previous tenants had stripped it bare which took away from its low beamed ceilings and the wooden trestle interior. The Green Man has many little nooks and crannies in which to have a private drink, a small and cosy section at the rear is up steps as are the toilets which makes it unsuitable for the disabled at present. Seating in the main is at 4-seater dark wood and metal tables with standard chairs and some bench seating along one wall. On the walls are horse brasses and country scene pictures. Next to the bar is a noticeboard announcing the latest Wimborne and pub events. There is also a real fire which, when lit in winter warms the entire pub. The bar is towards the rear of the pub and is a small wooden strip with low overhang. There are some stools at the bar, though these can become a nuisance at busy times. Food is served lunch and evenings. The menu is basic at lunch times and not too adventurous - baguettes, toasted sandwiches and ploughmans, etc. Not much for the vegetarian. Evening meals are from a different menu and there is a specials board. Prices vary and are reasonable for lunch. The atmosphere at The Green Man is relaxed and it can provide a welcome break from shopping in the very nearby town centre, or simply for a night out. Situated on the east of the town's ring road on the road to Canford Cliffs, just off Julians Road, it is easy to get to and there is plenty of parking. In the summer there are benches outside under an ivy covered trellis with bird boxes. Occasionally there is live music here. No accommodation here

The Cock And Bottle, Morden

High priced food but quantity and quality is very good. Staff are friendly and willing to take time out to talk to you. Good car park. Suitable base for a pub walk.
