Was going to have a drink here but the toilets are disgusting.

I was going to play pool but some chavs were having a game! Typical! However the pub was nice and quiet on a late August Saturday. The only downside was the lack of real ale. Why are they selling 4% beers instead of Old Speckled Hen or Abbot ale? As usual Jeff Stelling was ranting and raving on Soccer Saturday.

It is big and spacious unlike some pubs. Can't really fault but it does attract a slightly rough crowd and is a by a busy road. Good choice of ales.

Well, I went here today and couldn't even get in a game of Pool. Some chavs were hogging the tables. So I guess there was beer, yes one real ale so lets go with the Old speckled Hen! And then I could watch Jeff Stelling reading out the football scores and then I left. Thats what life is like when you drink in a pub on your own!

The Wooden Bridge has never had a particularly good reputation in Guildford although previously I'd always found it tolerable - it's a large out-of-town pub dominated by screens for sport-watching, with notably cheap (and cheerful) food and drink. On a recent visit, though, I felt it was looking sad and in need of a lick of paint - the gents' toilets nearest the road were particularly poor. The service was unfriendly too. Could do a lot better.

Found myself here this past Saturday afternoon (27 June) while looking at a property nearby. Passing a large rottweiller in the beer garden to enter a pub is not my idea of an auspicious welcome, though the dogs owners did not think this was a problem!

Once inside, however, I was impressed with the array of English football club flags dotted around the place, though the dcor overall is nothing to write home about. Agree with a previous poster in that this pub reminded me of the Claremont in West Byfleet. Despite the crowd gathered for the British Lions match, we were served promptly with a pear Bulmers and diet Coke coming to 4.77, so make what you want from that if anything about the prices of drinks in here!

I imagine this is a decent boozer to watch televised sport especially football - or sit out in glorious sunshine if in the vicinity. I can not vouch for eating here. I was with the missus, but even if not, I would NEVER come here Searching for H-Files, as the logical option would be to walk into town for friendly female talent given you simply have more choices of venue.

Popped in the for first time in years recently and wish I hadn't bothered. Tried a couple of what I assume were guest ales, found both of them disgusting (can't remember their names). Staff look depressed too. I guess its popular with the students as they advertise very cheap food (top quality ingredients I'm sure!)
I personally won't hurry back.

Could not be bothered to cook and thought we would try here for a change. Wish we had gone to the chip shop and eaten whilst standing in the freezing cold! Staff so busy amusing each other they had no time for the customers and our meals were awful (after wating for 45 minutes). Garlic bread was nice 'tho. Should have had chocolate pudding I 'spose, but could not wait to leave. Use of anglo saxon terms in reference to ladies parts was word of the day!

me and my hubby went for a meal a few nights ago. the food and service was lovely. the chocolate pudding thing for two was absolutely gorgeous and a must try. the atmosphere was good too and the staff were friendly. worth a visit

Oldpeculier Rolling Stones is another.

The heritage of this pub is excellent having hosted numerous groups in the past, I believe including the Jam, and others not coming to mind at the moment (many posters will be able to fill this blank in). Reminds me a lot of the Claremont in Byfleet and is run in the same surly manner. A hotbed of violence and petty crime for years avoid at all costs.

This is going to be an example of a pub who in the New Year will be complaining that business has been hit by the smoking ban what a load of rubbish!! this pub can easily cope with the bad weather, the smoking ban but what it does need is a big overhaul of retail standards as they are terrible, I'm not sure whats going on with the manager but surely he shouldn't be stood behind the bar, drinking, wearing an unironed t-shirt with his breakfast down the front!!, it needs someone to replace lightbulbs, clean tables and a friendly welcome, unless you've been local you are made to feel decisdely uncomfortable - this is my local I've tried it twice now but I won't be back again, I'll be one of the many that walk the 20 minutes into town instead!!

Loved this pub on leaving to go to a more friendly place Bagdad

Used to be my local. Very glad I moved house. Can be "lively" at closing time. Food is good value, but low quality. A good footie pub.

The Wooden Bridge. OK. Well, the backbone of the townie Guildford community (yes, I am talking Bellfields and Stoughton!), this pub has reinvented itself more times than Madonna. You go there more because it's close, you know it and because it just seems to be the easiest place to meet up before going on somewhere else (you never actually do though)than for the beer or the atmosphere. I am (sadly) no longer living in the vicinity , but I hear that these days it has been revamped. Yeah, yeah, it will still always just be the Bridge.

It gets a seven as for sheer staying power and the bizarre ability it has to draw you in and keep you going there for decades.

Beer and food variable. When my food order came out wrong, it looked like they just took it away, chucked some spices on and reheated it!
pinga - 4 Jan 2005 14:01
was better before they 'chef & brewered' it as it had at least 10 pool tables....though was a bit rough.....now it's just full of Guildford townies...

Good for watching the football and that is it.
