Go for the quiz on a Tuesday. Quiz is good with the Chris Moyles sound alike. However that's where it ends. The food is diabolically below standard. For such a nice looking pub it is ruined by attrocious offerings. The burgers have no thought put into them , are usual on the cold side and taste has been sucked out , not bad for 8 a pop. Ok , now onto the staff, just very lifeless and miserable. They are not a very warm. I am dreading the barbecue starting again soon cos they are letigously bad. Opaque buns with burnt offering. Come on pull your finger out. Yes there are a lot of people attend for the quiz , just don't fall apart. Eat beforehand

trys to be upmarket bar but basic run-of-the-mill beers on tap. not sure what they are trying to achieve here. not my type of place at all. the mrs liked it so will prob be back at some time

I've been here a few times recently and booked it for our wedding reception. The garden is excellent in summer and our reception was fantastic. The staff in particular were really helpful and they put so much effort into making sure eveyrthing was as we wanted it and more. The food is tasty and a abargain, the drinks are about the same as you would expect to pay in central London.

Nice garden, shame about just about everything else.

Poncey, over-priced, pretentious 'zeitgeist' pub (look it up). The kind of place which just doesn't quite belong.

ON a plus note, they do seem to be doing a BBQ, and having sat out in the garden in what this country would call summer, the beer garden is worth a visit, and the staff do at least move the heaters for you....

I just don't like the clientelle. Or the beer. And that's all quite important. But others will, so what's my view?

I made the mistake of asking for a Bacardi Breezer and recieved a sour response, as if I had committed some dreadful crime. Sorry sir, we only serve fruit-flavoured Polish vodkas that taste like tractor fuel and cost as much as a one-bedroom flat. This is a haunt of obnoxiously trendly people including the most unpleasant man who ever edited the Today programme. If they don't like the look of you, if you can squeeze past the sharp-elbowed flaneurs, bibulous adulterers and trendy half-wits who drink in this place, you won't get served. Oh and did I mention the city types, pretending that they have interests in life other than money and screwing each other. I would rather drink poison than go in there again.

Slightly mystified by some of the negative postings on here. In three or four visits, I've never failed to be impressed. Staff are friendly without being over-familiar - service is great, and not overly expensive given Imbibe's location.

Possibly swamped by the suited, loud-mouth, after-work crowd but delightfully inviting mid afternoon when the sun is shining. Good selection of wines. Beer garden is attractive and inviting for smokers. Regular BBQs are unambitious but reasonable value.

I've been here two or three times in the last couple of years since I started working in the area. It's not a bad place, lacks a bit in personality inside but the garden is just the job for summer (if only...). Never been here late at night so can't comment there. The staff are friendly and it's pretty clean.

Average wannabe trendy London bar...

Nothing massively wrong with it.
Just a bit bland
Badgers - 23 Jul 2007 17:00
I agree with gristy - the positive comments are obviously pr puff for the venue. You can tell by the fact that they have only commented on one pub.

For my part I have been to this pub several times over the years - its a reasonable bar, nothing particularly special as bars trying to be trendy go but ok for a few drinks after work.
se5live - 5 Jul 2007 14:24
I don't quite understand the last couple of comments (it's been a long week) but i have been to a couple of birthday parties at this bar - i had a brill time at both. staff were unpretentious and helpful (unusual when you're hiring a venue) and both times the organisers were really impressed. for my part i had a few too many -both times- but my fuzzy memories are happy ones. Lets keep the politics/advertising whatever off this site and get back to reviewing good bars.
tallyho - 16 May 2007 14:34
"I recently had my 30th birthday here...for the fifth time..." any "review" by a once-only poster with hidden details is always going to be unsubtle self-advertising.

Keep self-promotion off BITE.

A big fat zero in protest...but all these zero awards will be removed shortly...

One of the best bars in SE1. I used to work in Southwark, and had my leaving do at the bar - the staff were great, and the atmosphere was right on the money. Thoroughly enjoyed most all of the evenings I've had there - it's certainly worth straying the 100-odd yards from Southwark Tube Station for.

This is younger persons bar that think they're better than everyone else. One of the bar staff trying taking my half full drink, and then proceeded to spill them. Each time she'd refused to apologise, and didn't even refill after the spill. No where else would this be acceptable.

Bl**dy lovely place!
They are all really friendly and helpful.
Our food was delicious and the cocktails even nicer!
If I could of just got the numbers of *all* the stunning blokes at the table next to us then the night would of been perfect!
Most gorgeous garden space I have ever been in - ever.
Can't wait to go again - best night out I've had for ages

I've just held my 30th birthday party here, and it was an absolutely fantastic night. They laid on a barbeque in the gorgeous back garden, and we had DJs till 2am. The staff were really helpful, v. friendly and patient, and helped create a great atmosphere. Lots of people who came to the party have been commenting on what a great venue it was. Great if you want outdoor summer party + late licence, couldn't be better.

Had our company Christmas meal and party there in december 2005.
The food was good, the service better and once the tables had been cleared away, the music, service and staff made for a great night. Not sure I'd want to go there in a group of two or three, but for a party, it's spot on.

not easy to find such a welcomin place as imbibe. A smile doesnt cost anything and the staff is exceptionally happy, itz a pleasure spending time waiting for my drink there!

just had a fantastic 30th birthday here and wanted to thank this bar- the atmosphere was fantastic, the night was so well organised and the staff worked their socks off to give me everything i needed. i will definitely recommend this to mates. just read the other reviews and was surprised by the last one.funnily enough the main reason why i chose to have my birthday here was because of the promotional material above. i am a consumer and therefore want info!!doesn't everyone??
suzanne - 24 Sep 2004 12:07
Come here on average every six months or so and consistently get bad service from the staff. Nice enough venue but quite pricey and nothing inherently better than the places around Waterloo or Borough. Also whats with puting all the promotional stuff on the description? This site is a consumers' site not an ad site; I have rated it 0 to protest at this.

really confy sofas inside and great beer garden...we had our BBQ there!!
very relaxed atmosphere and staff is very friendly!!
worth a visit!!
daniel - 3 Jun 2004 14:41
the most consistently arrogant and rudest staff in any pub, in any part of the world. I joined this forum to tell you, and everyone in my company agrees
Daniel - 7 May 2004 12:31
Not just good in summer - great fire in the winter too! Had a great private party there - recommended!
Rob MacAlister - 20 Nov 2003 15:56
Excellent wine list and top lunch menu! Friendly atmosphere with good music

I check it out every time I'm down from Manchester - perhaps they'll open one up here!

Lunchtime menu is great and comfy sofas create a relaxed atmosphere to chat with friends. The garden, full of flowers, is superb! The bars best kept secret! The staff are so welcoming I feel completely at home.
