Why, oh why, oh why is this handsome and historic pub building, set in the middle of beautiful Bexhill still boarded up and still going to waste?
It's been this way for getting onto nearly a year now.
The former tenant was a fool in running this place into the ground; it's a solid, well built Georgian/Victorian, that was poorly decorated within, in a camp/modern/B&Q design, rather than just keeping to clean, bare boards, a tasteful lick of paint and a regular rub of furniture polish.
The beer was poorly presented and the staff, unwelcoming, and suspect in their outward character. More pikey than proper pub professional management that one would expect to service the average middle class plus, Daily Mail/Telegraph reader that abide in Bexhill on sea;both young and old.
There are more than enough drinking dens of squalor for the tattooed, in-bred, knuckle-dragging, baseball capped and grey jogging bottom clad customer/chums that the previous bar staff catered for, to go to; The Sovereign opposite the station for example.
What Bexhill-on-sea is crying out for, is a pleasant, clean, professionally run, and welcoming establishment with good Ales and Lagers. The Bell is the ideal place for such a place to capture that majority in town who want a decent, respectable local to visit, but can't find one nearby. Come on Messrs Fullers, Youngs, Sam Smiths, get down to Bexhill and buy The Bell!

I stopped for a breather on walk to Bexhill Hospital from station mid-day and found it quiet (but then a weekday) but friendly. Well kept beer so worth a visit for a usually hidden part of Bexhill.

You have to praise this guy for trying to bring some life back into the pubs in Bexhill. Two real ales on tap - the usual Harveys and also local brewer Whites. Both in good condition when I called by. More a bistro than a pub but so what when the barman and locals were so pleasant to a newcomer.

The new owner deserves praise indeed for doing his best to provide at least one decent pub in Bexhill to go too for all ages. This is a busy pub, especially with young people, who have a hard time of it around here growing up and just being young. Very nice pub.

Went there recently to see the live music on a Friday evening, very nice beer and great band, it still looks like it is in the stages of being redecorated to me although the bar area is fine, I wonder if it will ever be finished reading the earlier comments.

This pub seems to be improving due to good efforts by the leaseholder Rik. Nice garden area at the back has been developed, and good live music on at weekends. Friendly atmosphere and 2 real ales on.

The latest renovation of this pub is a real missed opportunity. An historic building in Bexhill Old Town, it has become another sterile outlet in a town crying out for a decent traditional pub. Good to see local White's ales on tap, but not served in the best condition.

Bit untidy as they were doing building works and were throwing stuff out of the upstairs window into a skip. That was back in 2006
