The Chequers Inn, Battle

Visited 14.8.15 for first time in years and what a surprise as a complete transformation inside to a very warm and welcoming décor & staff. Excellent well kept beer, wine including by the glass, and an excellent meal was enjoyed by us. By 7:45 all the tables were taken and the informal atmosphere was buzzing with everyone enjoying themselves, all types and ages, will certainly return.

Norman Arms, St Leonards on Sea

Recently late January/Early Feb Feb.2014 the landlord did a runner with all the furniture and moveable equipment, drink, etc. so closed down and completely empty 4 bare walls although the stench noted by others still pervading. Don't know if this is an Enterprise or who ultimate owner is but it has been a complete disgrace and they should be ashamed of themselves for allowing it to become so rundown and filthy whilst somehow escaping the attention of Hastings food & drink & health authorities, actually cleaner to drink in the nearby public convenience.

The Ostrich Hotel, Robertsbridge

Best for wine drinkers as landlord prefers and good choice of wines.
Beer often 'off' or worse as neither landlord nor bar staff drink real ale and even the Guinness can be sour so sniff before you gulp.
Sunday B-B-Q during Grand Prix season can be interesting as features food of the country where racing held.
Much of custom has now gone to Salehurst Halt (younger) or George Inn (more mature and foodies).
