The Lathkil Hotel, Over Haddon

Brilliant range of real ales, great food and lovely unspoiled bar with a coal fire. In such a special location this is a magic place. Seems they have been dropped out of the CAMRA good beer guide this year after being recommended for 28 consecutive years. That's plain daft even if only to make space for newcomers. Don't be misled; that's CAMRA's shortsightedness and no reflection on the quality of the Lathkil.

The Bull, Horton Kirby

Lat called by in April and decided to let the place settle down under the new regime. Called in today and was delighted to find the beer festival was starting at lunchtime. A truly SUPERB range/choice of beers. Marble, Thornbridge, Hopdeamon, Oakham and of course Dark Star. Still a bit chaotic and the food is nothing to get excited about, but where else could you find thyat beer range and knowledge. Good to see a strong supporting crowd in the pub. OK its not as slick as when Garret and Lynne ran the place but Susanna is a lovely person and its a very welcoming pub. No whingeing please, just support the place 'cos its in our own interests to do so!

Old Town Hall Vaults, Whitchurch

What a fantastic pub. Walked in on the footpath from the canal (about 15 mins). Superb range of ales (seven, mostly micros) and the two we tried were in excellent condition - Joules brewery from Market Drayton and also Thornbridge. Very pleasant welcome from the locals and helpful bar staff. Good atmosphere and comfortable and cosy. Its tucked away off the high street just behind Barclays Bank - and WELL WORTH SEEKING OUT.
