I haven't been in the Anchor, so can't comment on Little drummer boys comments, but totally agree The Bell is a great pub. Love the little snugs, and yes it does have a great beer garden. The 'sea view' might be stretching it a bit (you can see the sea if you walk to the fence and look 👀 over)... All the regular Adnams ales, including a tea inspired beer called T drop. This started nice but went flat pretty quickly. definitely recommended after a hard morning catching crabs...!

Why is the Anchor in the CAMRA GBG and not this place? It has bags more atmosphere and character, a better welcome and is much nicer on the inside, with its little snug areas, scrubbed tables and high backed seating. The beer garden is lovely too - and massive!! The beers were well-kept and served the best pint of Southwold Bitter of our recent trip.

Historic, multi-roomed coastal inn with a large garden brimming with families and dogs. A certain pleasing novelty in travelling there by ferry. Hugely characterful with a good choice of excellent Adnams ales - basically, the sort of place where it is a struggle not to 'settle in' for a few hours.

Excellent Adnams pub, as atmospheric as a British pub can be and equally good in Winter (cosy) or Summer (huge and awesome beer garden). Always have a great selection of Adnams on tap and food - particularly the fish and chips - is well cooked and good value. Only downside can be how busy it gets on weekends, particularly in tourist season so if you want to eat or get a table get there early!

Late write up from 29/09/08 visit (looking back through diary).
A charming country pub with flag and brick floors wonderfully worn by the passing of time. Inglenook fireplace surrounded by high backed settles and a boarded window seat still retained much character. Full range of Adnams on offer with the Explorer and Broadside very good. Other areas around the newer bar have equal character and seating for diners. This is well worth the walk up and down the creek from Southwold.

Lunched with friends last weekend during a circular walk from Southwold. Well worth the visit. Great old building - fascinating interior. Food was fine as were the Adnams beers. Unfortunately (for us) the Old Ale ran out before we were able to sample it and 'Lighthouse' was not on.

The interior of this pub is just amazing. Multi rooms like a Rabbit's warren.

Stone flooring actually bevelled and worn away in places.

A circular wooden booth situated smack in the middle of one of the largest rooms.

Aspall's Cider on draught just like every pub in this area.

Well worth a visit.

Simply superb; old world, ancient interior, fires, good food, great beer. Go there!

Ahh, false alarm. Enjoyed a few visits here in June and it was top notch. staff were friendly and efficient, food very good and beer delicious. Some purists may say the ale is a bit too cold but, after five minutes sitting in the sun, this can be an advantage. Looking forward to my next visit already.

Popped to Walberswick just after Easter and managed to get a couple of quick visits here. I had heard there had been a management change.
Beer still top notch but a distinct lack of staff meant I had to wait almost 10 minutes for a pint - hopefully teething problems.
Back up in a couple of weeks, hopefully will be giving a glowing report shortly after.

Fabulous Olde Worlde Pub of the highest order. Last time i saw a pub with nooks and crannies like this was in cushendun in Northern Ireland. The floors are terrifically worn and uneven with hundreds of years worth of feet treading over the slabs. My little dog was welcome (always a good sign), the food was reallly very good and my bucket of chips did actually come in a bucket and were not of the frozen variety. Good selection of beverages. We went on a Saturday noon time but this must be a great little pub in the evening. I hear it is supposed to be haunted - well Walberswick does have the reputation for one of the most haunted villages in England so i suppose the pub would have to be. Oh also great beer garden, and a separate area where children were banned - another great idea (though my four year old did try and barge in).

An excellent pub. Good beer and very good food. Does get packed, as others have said.

Situated between the river and the sea this is a great Adnams pub with plenty of character I prefer it to any pub in Southwold never tried the food.

Never been in the summer but for me its a great winter pub after walking the dog.

One of my favourite haunts, I am (arguably)lucky enough to only visit this pub out of holiday season when I hear it is packed to the nines with holiday makers. The beer is always excellent and the uneven floors catch me out every time. The food is very good and uncomplicated. There are not many pubs I would rather spend an afternoon sipping Adnams in than this and the garden's great too. Always been happy with the service.

The beer is always good, Adnams well kept. The food on offer is excellent and the portions can be immense! The young waiting staff in the busy summer weekend lunchtimes are very efficient.

A superb Adnams pub serving a great selection of their ales. Visited on a very busy weekend but plenty of room and staff so got a table and served quickly at the bar. Recommended!

Walked along the dunes from Southwold and arrived via the foot-ferry (a well-worth-it 70p in a rowing boat). The pub was very quiet at 17:30 so some sporting rivalry continued over a game of dominoes; good pub guide suggests that they also have shove-ha'penny & boules. Usual Adnams beers were good, the pub was attractive with wood panelling, a nice looking breakfast room for the hotel to one side, a huge grassy beer garden to the rear past which was a view of the sea. Tried to book accom here but they have a two-night minimum stay.

Another brilliant pub, people on this part of the coast really are spoilt for choice. The Bell's aiming at the posh accommodation and food market hasn't spoilt its ambience as a pub. I can never have enough weekends away staying at places like this and wandering the haunting Suffolk coast before repairing for excellent beer

One of my all time favourite pubs - ever! Great location, truly amazing food(but get there early to avoid disappointment) plenty of very well kept Adnams throughout the extensive bar. Fantastic to go to anytime of the year - especially as the welcome you get is always so friendly. Great for all the family or for anyone wanting to impress the other half! Couldn't recommend it highly enough.
