The Cuckoo Bush, Gotham

I've lived in North Leicestershire my whole life, but had never visited this pub in South Notts... we'd been walking our dog at Ruddington country park and came back via Clifton then Gotham, rather than the normal route through Bunny. The Cuckoo Bush is a really lovely village local; car park and garden to rear, with three rooms in the pub and a central bar. The small rectangular room off the main bar is a gem... tiled floor and bench seats around it's edges, with tables and stools in the centre. A roaring fire greeted us on a cold December day, with plenty of logs and also bellows, to really heat it up. Lots of old pub relics giving it an older, maybe 60's / 70's feel. 4 real ales, including a Timothy Taylor, one I can't remember and 2 guest Christmas ales. The barmaids were chatty and friendly, as were the locals. Apparently food is also good but although we didn't eat that day, I'm sure we'll be back.

The Cumberland Arms, Tynemouth

Great pub in a lovely part of England.. I'm a midlander, but, have have fond memories of various stays in an around Newcastle... Tynemouth is a lovely place, steeped in history and feels a little 1950's slice of England at times. Since our son went to Northumbria University we've visited often, and have nothing but kind words for the Geordies... so to the Cumberland arms.. cracking food and beer in lovely building.. north-eastern-brewery River-catcher plus the house Breetches bitter and Pentland ale.. all very nice and recommended. Go for a walk on the beach any time of year.. Hope the toon army do well with there new found fortune (until of course they play the blue fox army!!)

The Cornish Arms, Carbis Bay

I enjoyed this pub.. slightly 'out of town' for people staying in St.Ives, but great for those in Carbis bay, and you can also alight here with a small detour off the coast path.. Good, basic pub food. I sampled the steak and ale pie plus the 8oz steak whilst we were in Carbis bay and both were great. 2 Sharps ales, Doom bar and (my favourite) Sea Fury plus Skinners Porthleven. On a sadder note it was on the TV whilst we wea here that Skinners were closing down, which came as a surprise for a brewery well established. Anyway, give thi pub a go...
