Large and complex 'Spoon, which completely surrounds the Park Tavern pub next door. Seating is on several levels, and there are various nooks and crannies, with a range of seating options. Good mix of customers - young, middle aged and old, with families and couple, mothers and daughters, friends sharing a drink. Nice, laid back atmosphere, and the place clean, well kept, and with the appearance of being recently refurbished. Has something of a cocktail bar or nightclub about it. Lots of high stools, and bright colours, for example. A bit limited on the range of beers. Quite likeable.

Cavernous pub, not very strong on sales for its size.

A bit of a rabbit warren of a place going back fro the pub frontage rather than the the usual Spoons style of single large room, so a variety of seating styles in this pretty well kept establishment. Only six handpumps so that limits the choice of unusual beers here somewhat once you take into account the inevitable one(s) not ready yet and those that are boring bog standards that don't excite the eyesight or palate.
That said, as a pub it does its job and the beer was in good form.

A spacious and well laid out Wetherspoons. Varying real ales on the handle with all the usual curry and drink offers all at low prices. May call in again later for another organised farewell drink, it's the place to go for a large gathering too.

This isn't a pub....it's a night club Wetherspoons. Food and beer good. Service good too...midday on a Friday.

Popped in whilst shopping in Pompey.....poor selection of real ales given JDW reputation. Experience was spoiled by regulars on the next table who cursed at volume thoughout. Staff were aware but said nothing and continued to supply with very cheap booze despite the fact that they were totally out of it....12.30pm.

This used to be our regular, especially Sunday Lunch time and the odd evening, as the menu was great, but then that changed and it just went down hill from there, so I will take heed to the comments below (XxAimzxX) and I will definately give it another go!

I work in this pub and I'd just like to say in the recent few months it has been under new management, so anyone who has previously been disapointed with the service provided is welcome to return and see how much of an improvement it has become. Everyone is working very hard to ensure the enjoyment of customers in our pub and bring in new people.
Thursday nights are now student nights, a different theme every week with all the staff in fancy dress! A Dj plays from 9 on a thursday and 8 on a friday and saturday.

This is a very odd pub as during the day its a great place to go grab a bite to eat if shopping and the selection of drinks is very well priced.

In the evening it tries to be a after work, pre clubbing with loud annoying music. Its still a very nice venue with bars upstairs and downstairs and I do believe its all non smoking now, although it does lose a point for removing the great fountain in the gents which we were supposed to wash our hands in!

myself and a group of friends had our christmas meal / night out here a couple of weeks ago. what a dissapointment! poor service, awful food and a fairly bland atmosphere. the trafalgar is a vast, souless bar. dark, disorientating, understaffed and unfriendly. the only redeeming feature is the standard, cheap(ish) JD drinks prices.
i won't be going back.

Cavernous former Sailor's Rest and student hall. The redevelopment took an age, and it was well worth it. It now completes a run of four pubs next door to each other!

Range of ale is just OK, though I've never had a bad pint. The place was set up more with the nightclubbing crowd in mind, two big clubs will be opening just around the corner in the next few months. Always worth a look early on weekend evenings for something "easy on the eye"! Has a variety of areas to sit, from nooks and crannies to big tables.

It is, as it would have to be with its size, all things to all people, and so it lacks something.

What an outstanding pub. Only two drawbacks; firstly, although the beer that was served had no faults, I felt as though the range could be improved. From the range they had, one of the three available was 'tarnished' leaving me to choose from Directors and Tanglefoot (Such a shame ha ha). The other issue was with the "toilets upstairs". Typical Wetherspoons policy but it certainly didn't 'tarnish' my visit. Another pat on the back for Mr Martin.
