user reviews of the Brewery Bar, Botley

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

A traditional pub that still has the memory of that inside, though is kitted out more like a cafe or restaurant, with small dining tables laid out, each ready with knives and forks. They don't look inviting to sit at to spend a relaxing few hours, and are geared up to be functional for eating a meal and then leaving. The pub does have live bands fairly frequently.

The area near the front door is more pub like, with locals sitting at the bar, and a table by the window which is more suited just for sitting at and drinking. A couple of guest ales on offer as well as a cask cider. An acceptable place for lunch, being clean and light, but does lack character and comfort.

Botley is an interesting looking village, and the three pubs are all acceptable, and serve food. Being close to the Hedge End shopping complex, any of them would be OK for a quick lunch before shopping. But not for anything special. The Dolphin is probably the most down to earth and family friendly, the Bugle the most upmarket and characterful, and the Brewery Bar the freshest and cleanest looking.

I can honestly say, I wouldn't bring my dog to this pub, let alone my children. The drinks were flat and the food was microwaved. Although the staff were helpful (with the exception of the manager/landlady who was rude and very scruffy looking). They promote a child friendly atmosphere however there really is very little for kids to do here, other than watch their parents get drunk apparently, as most of them were. Shocking behaviour. The pub itself is very shabby looking (and I don't mean shabby chic either)! It's damp, dark and very dinghy. The prices are high considering this damp little place is nothing to write home about BUT on a slightly positive note, kids eat free.! However I'm not exactly confident as to what they would be eating and if they would escape without food poisoning or ecoli . They also have a pretty big problem with drugs, we could openly hear people discussing how much they wanted, we left after that pointy. Bottom line...don't bother going there. If you want to take your family out in botley, I recommend Kings Restaurant which is a classier establishment and more family friendly or even the Botley Tandoori! Or perhaps just take a picnic to the park but definitely NOT the Brewery Bar !!

I've been using this pub on and off since the 80s. The young couple who run it now are doing a great job. There's usually three real ales on and the food, cooked by the landlord is top notch.

There is regular entertainment and a flat screen TV but if you want silence and beer straight out of barrels, jump in the Tardis and go back 20 years.

You can't make a living running small pubs like that these days.

WIth a name as exciting as 'The Brewery Bar' I could barely wait to get into this joint and start lashing down the quality ales on offer. Unfortunately there wasn't a single ale on offer, and the Stella I was served was flat as a pancake. The nice girl behind the bar changed it withouth a quibble but I wasn't really interested in the excuses. A bit dank and dirty and typical of the decline of the British pub. It could be ok but I guess there's no incentive to improve things. The shape of Britain to come....

What a great pub, the landlady is really lovely, barman very efficient and polite, been popping in for a drink now and then over the last 18 months, went in yesterday (7th Dec 2008) had a great sunday lunch. It's rare these days to find such a nice place to have a drink.

Nice beer, good music but unfortunately has the rudest and most unfriendly bar staff on the South Coast.

Traditonal Pub, tucked away in Winchester Street Botley. Jazz 12.30-3pm on a Sunday. The Lounge Bar is good for a relaxed drink during the week, and the public is mad full stop. A good pub all round, friendly customers and Staff.
