user reviews of the Shepherds House, Moss End

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Is the red & white safety barrier still lying in the car park from my visit last summer? Oh yes.

Indifferent service, cremated 'snip & ping' microwave food, cloudy ale and a loud blonde (landlady?) slagging off her area manager at the bar - and for this treat I only had to pay 15.00 at lunchtime.

If you like this dreadful apology for a pub, go - if you don't, visit the Crown, Bray, Greene Oak, Windsor or the Beehive, White Waltham.

Visited the pub 2 weeks ago and this is what I thought..

The pub itself is nice if you want a quiet social chat. The music wasnt too loud and there were no TVs blasting Sky Sports in your face. Had no issues with the staff, they were all very friendly. The only problem I had (and this is a big one) is that I ate a tuna baguette which gave me food poisoning. It wasnt the worst I have had but kept me down for 2 days, and felt the effects of it for a further 2 days after that. Real shame as I would have gone back.

I don't know where these people have been dining, but I am really pleased with the Shepherds House. I have always been greeted with a smile, and the staff have all been very attentive and polite. Nothing was too much trouble. In fact going tonight to celebrate my birthday with all my family

Have to agree with several other reviewers.
If you avoid the people running it you can have a marvellous experience.
I was served by the man and he was ok - not rude or over friendly but the woman was very rude as experienced by others.
When my partner ordered our meals she ststed in a loud voice with a rude tone "HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW WHICH MENU YOU ARE ORDERING OFF ?"
I would say this woman has the least grasp of customer service I have encountered in any eating/drinking establishment.
The strange twist is that everything elose was fine - the food was very good and the rest of the service was as well.
The attitude of this woman was the only downside but of course as you can imagine it put a dampener on our evening. Maybe acceptable (or even required) in a London pub but not what you expect in a country pub.
Certainly different to what we have recently encountered in the Leathern Bottle and the Warren since (both top class service).

Revolting place. Pathetic plastic sheep everywhere. Rude staff shouting on their mobile phones. No idea how to run a pub. Avoid.

Rather limited range of real ales, nice cup of tea - but pricey!
Can't comment on the food. Don't sit near the door to the conservatory in winter - the waiting staff leave it open to carry food, and the customers freeze! Recently a group of us found it closed for the (Tuesday) evening without warning.

This pub has good food, a pleasant atmosphere, and polite waiting staff.

However, is it totally ruined by the rude and unprofessional owners who on several occassions have amazed us with their approach at 'customer service'.

Everything seems to be a hassle, and it genuinely seems as though they don't want customers in their restaurant. It's so bad, it's almost funny.

On one occasion, when innocently asking a waiter if they had a table to sit the Eight of us, we were barked at by the landlord that we'd "just have to wait".

After waiting for our food for nearly two hours one evening, and eventually enquiring about it - we were very abruptly told by the landlady that "we were told it was going to take a while" - which we weren't.

It's a shame, as it would be a pleasant venue. If you can stand the Adams family who own it (or just manage to avoid them) - it's worth a try.

A couple of other things, you can't book a table, or run a tab - meaning you have to 'pay as you go' - which is annoying. This also means that if there's a group of you, you may want to place seperate orders when paying - which in turn results in people getting their meals at different times. Crazy.

Gastro Food - Boil in the bag, with a bit of over cooked freshish veg on the side, no real beer.
Keep Clear

Very good pub in a quiet location that's not too far from Bracknell. The layout is quite cavernous so even when it's busy you don't get tend to get overcrowded with people standing around you. It's got quite a traditional feel to it with some open fires -particularly nice in the winter.

Beer-wise - there are two (sometimes three) ales that are always well kept, plus the usual lagers and a good selection of wines. There's a good menu that changes regularly too. Always good meat-fish-veggie options.

Minor gripes - some of the antipodean staff are excellent, some not so. Also, some of the food dishes can be quite expensive for what they are (side portion of chips is 2.75), so choose wisely.

Overall, a really good pub though.

Visited again today for lunch again with my daughter and little granddaughter.

Warm, welcoming (mostly antipodean) staff, good ales and first class food.

I cannot recommend this place too highly.

Go and enjoy.

Very good pub. The food is definitely cooked on the premises as they managed to cater very well for one of our party, who has many, many food allergies. The food was excellent, and although I wouldn't describe it as cheap, it certainly is nice to have some proper food for a change.

The range of beers was not huge, but the Speckled Hen was good. All the staff were very friendly, and the plae appears to be popular with youngish families.

Expensive fancy food, reheated on the premises with the most basic skills, badly done, no real beer everything is keg.

Went on Saturday evening (early) for my birthday celebrations.

Absolutely first-class in all departments except that no-one had ever heard of gluten intolerance and could they provide any food for sufferers.

This was the only point that denied the manager and his staff a perfect ten.

Will def be back.

Went Monday lunchtime with my daughter and little granddaughter.

Got a very warm welcome from the young Antipodean fellas at the bar.

A lovely old pub with a nice atmosphere, a warm welcome, excellent food ( a little overpriced) and a wide choice of ales.

My only criticism? It's November, guys. You could turn the aircon off and the heating on!
