user reviews of the Blue Anchor, Staines

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

yes, you'd approach a member off staff that calls people 'pussys' for having an opinion wouldn't you....

Wonderful example of how full of trash the Blue Anchor is.
anonymous - 6 Feb 2006 21:54
Was in the blue Friday night and I'm sure that they said the school disco was the last night before the refurb!!

Can anyone confirm this??
anonymous - 6 Feb 2006 09:13
the rumours about Skool Disco being the last night for the Blue Anchor might well be true.

You'll have to come along and find out!!
djtreacle - 2 Feb 2006 22:59
I heard that the school disco night is the last night before the refurbishment.
anonymous - 1 Feb 2006 18:50
Went in the Blue last Friday and had a blinding night, DJ was playing some wicked tunes (for once)!?!?

Good atmosphere and friendly door and bar staff!!

First time in a long time that I have been there and had a good night!!
anonymous - 25 Jan 2006 17:02
When is it actually closing for refurb then??

Does anyone know??
anonymous - 19 Jan 2006 11:32
Hey those who are interested - SKOOL DISCO back at the Blue on 11th February - hope to see you there!
is_it_really_seb - 17 Jan 2006 23:15
Excuse me, watch your language. I think that comment has the blues clientelle down to a fine show.

The point they were making about the refurb is it is NOT GOOD as it is. They no where mentioned it wasn't making money. It does. From Pikys.

However, the new refurb is to attract a slightly classier audience than it currently does.

The current interior is full of burberry and sticky carpets. I think that shows whos happy to be in that enviroment for an evening.

In your nice words - 'PLANK'

anonymous - 17 Jan 2006 14:41
"The Blue is SO GOOD it is closing for a refurb....think that says it all!" - you plank.

Why would the company that owns the venue invest hundreds of thousands of pounds if they thought the venue was crap? Pub chains don't refit crappy pubs - they sell them.
anonymous - 16 Jan 2006 22:56
I think it is now a case of the For People closing their eyes to their precious pub. If you like it, state your valed reasons for liking it (local, cheap etc etc), don't lie about the bad reasons not being true.

The Blue has alot of fights. Alot more than any other pub anyone on here can name.

Facts are facts.

The Blue is SO GOOD it is closing for a refurb....think that says it all!

anonymous - 13 Jan 2006 23:08
Nah, i've never seen much trouble either...i stopped going a while back, probably beginning of the year - march/april time - everyone seemed really young in there and atmosphere wasn't great.

i went there recently and have to say...better then it has ever been!! really good music and atmosphere...and nice door team!!

the blue used to clear out about 11ish when people were going on elsewhere...that doesn't seem to happen anymore - think that shows you something!
anonymous - 13 Jan 2006 11:49
Never seen a fight................. are you joking?!?!

I've been in there and seen at least 4 in one night!! I've also been in there when the police have stormed the place so you can't deny the fact that they do have quite a bit of trouble!!
anonymous - 13 Jan 2006 10:47
yeah, i agree with that...everyone always comments about the fighting, but cant say i've ever really seen any trouble when i've been in the blue anchor.

i've always found it to have a really good atmosphere and have never had a problem in there.
anonymous - 12 Jan 2006 10:19
the blue's got a bad rep, but i've only ever seen one fight in this pub....

maybe you've just been there when they've had a bad crowd in, and surely everywhere gets that from time to time?
anonymous - 11 Jan 2006 10:07
Age has absolutly no bearing, I'm 21 and as you can see from my previous comments : anonymous - 9 Jan 2006 23:25, anonymous - 3 Jan 2006 14:26 etc, I am very against the Blue and its 'happenings' .

Just beacuse some one maybe 21 or under does not mean they start, participate and approve fighting in venues.

anonymous - 11 Jan 2006 00:34
It's ok - those places are all over 21s so they probably wouldn't get in :)
Mr_Anderson - 10 Jan 2006 10:23
I know pubs in Staines where there are no fights as well. If anyone expects to see fights in their local, then they're clearly drinking in the wrong place. It's not 'the norm'.
Zod - 10 Jan 2006 10:17
I know pubs in Staines where you don't get fights on Friday, Saturday nights, but I'm not sure I want to tell the previous contributors
JohnBonser - 10 Jan 2006 09:54
"I'm sorry, where is it exactly you go on a Friday night where you never see fights?? i am intrigued??!?! "

Maybe I'm showing my age but I don't expect to see fights just because it's Friday night. Obviously Staines hasn't changed all that much since I lived there, though
toffee_exile - 10 Jan 2006 09:52
I'm sorry, where is it exactly you go on a Friday night where you never see fights?? i am intrigued??!?!

anonymous - 10 Jan 2006 09:19
"as for the fights...yeah...but you're in a pub, what do you expect?!"

LOL, I missed that comment. Well dont for pointing it out.

I totally agree, since when has a pub equaled fights?

I EXPECT good quality drinks (food, if avaliable), a nice safe surrounding, pleasent staff and everyone to be over 18!
anonymous - 9 Jan 2006 23:25
"as for the fights...yeah...but you're in a pub, what do you expect?!"

Why should anyone have to expect a fight in a pub?? If your standards/tastes are so low that you're satisfied with having to dodge out of the way of idiots, then well done - you've got exactly the pub you deserve. Stay there.
anonymous - 9 Jan 2006 12:10
and for your information having a negative opinion of a lousy bar for very valid reasons does not equal 'slagging it off' as you so nicely phrased it.
anonymous - 8 Jan 2006 23:44
''. difference being is i appear to have more of a life than to sit on here and get into riduculous arguements with ppl who actually lik the venues that i dont even go too nor like!! ''

That comment says you do.

anonymous - 8 Jan 2006 23:43
here here!!!

p.s whoever commented on missing my constructive critiscm on windsor and kingston.... i think you may need re-wind and read again.... now did i happen to mention any venues in particular??!!!... ohhhhh no i dont think i did!!! wanna know why?... i actually happen to lik some venues in windsor and kingston same as i happen to like some venues in some places... but that doesnt mean i lik them ALL though.... difference being is i appear to have more of a life than to sit on here and get into riduculous arguements with ppl who actually lik the venues that i dont even go too nor like!!

its ALL opinions and everyone is entitled to them.... but apparently most of you seem to think its ok to point out that your thoughts and opinions are valued... BUT mine or anyone else who happens to lik the places there opinions arent credible at all.... *coughhypocritscough*!!

i happen to think its not particularly curtious OR NICE, for that matter, to lay into other ppls opinions - Especially when they were lightheartedly putting across justifeid reasons why THEY like somewhere!

my message was MY opinion... im sure you'll keep expressing yours but mayb if you believe your thoughts are so valued put a name behind the talk for once instead of hiding behind your anominity!

as much fun as its been guys and gals... clearly theres no point bantering with you people (as i can tell by the rowdyness you have all caused over sumthing quite ridiculous you are obviously the sort of ppl i avoid whilst out! ha ha)... so im signing off! - enjoy your fruitless attempts at anonymous uncontructive moaning about places you dont go to or like!! :D

Adios!

:D

JJWinkALot - 6 Jan 2006 13:04
Now now children, let's all behave ourselves!

If you dont like it, dont come! Simple, and then maybe you can spend your time doing something other than slagging it off !?

barstaff and doorstaff are always friendly, the DJs always create a good atmosphere and let's be honest, they cant always play what everyone wants can they?! they need to deal with my requests first.

as for the fights...yeah...but you're in a pub, what do you expect?! they always get stopped quite quickly, so as long as you dont get caught in the middle, whats your problem??? (and if you do, that's your own fault, be quicker on your feet!!)

always a good night - good music, good atmosphere and Pinot Grigio - what more can you want?!??!

get a grip people, if you dont have anything nice to say, dont say anything at all - or even better, why dont you try saying something when you're there instead of bitching when you leave!?!?!
anonymous - 6 Jan 2006 12:07
I used to really enjoy drinking in the Blue but in recent months, the place seems to have gone a bit down hill!! Definitely one of the places that you can have a very good or bad night!! Sometimes there are no fights, sometimes there are so many you lose count!! The door staff seem to have good and bad days as well, sometimes you'll see the odd 12 yr old drinkers and the pikies but quite often there is a very friendly, fun atmosphere in there!! I'd definately say that the Blue's biggest downfall is the DJ, he seems to not realise that he is only a crap DJ in Staines!! I guess no where is perfect though!!

But saying all that, I'd rather go there than Que Pasa!! Only get me going in Cheekies now as its open till 4am!!
anonymous - 3 Jan 2006 16:02
If the Blue Anchor has far less trouble than Cheekees then why was the Anchor refused an extension during the recent licensing law change, but Cheekees is now open downstairs until 4am, and routinely trouble-free in addition? 'Unruly pub refused license extension' I think the headlines read.

Put it another way, could it be because your facts are actually complete rubbish and the authorities themselves also think the Anchor is a hellhole?
anonymous - 3 Jan 2006 15:36
that's your OPINION.
If you are happy to drink with pikies and wear burberry on a friday, then good for you.

However, as you can see, the majority of us are not, and prefer a different, safer, classier venue.

The Blue has 10x as many fights as the Toad ever did. I used to go there EVERY friday, the occasional thurs, and a few Sats and fights happened, yes,... occasionaly.

You'd be luckly to go to the blue without seeing a fight. It's not 'slagging it off', it is a fact.

As for Windsor and Kingston...I'd like to see these amazing huge fights. I'm now a Kingston Person after the Toad closed and have not seen this brawling you mention.... hmm!

You go and enjoy it... We won't, and we'll enjoy somewhere else.

O-P-I-N-I-O-N-S

p.s. missed your contructive critism on Wind/Kings!?!
anonymous - 3 Jan 2006 14:26
quite frankly guys and gals im pretty shocked just how poor all your opinions on this pub are?!

i know the blue has had its ups and downs in the past but its certainly getting it right now!.... nice friendly door/bar staff, good music and dj's, nice atmosphere and us girls neva fail to have good evening! i've been to some pubs in my time and i can honestly say this is by far the most friendliest pub i've been too.

yes so there may be a few fights but come on guys get real.... its a pub and unfortunately you do get 'em!! and for anyone who remembers the Toad b4 it became Que Pasa OR The Xchange/Cheekies you'll know that they had/have ten times more trouble (and pikies!!) than the blue does... and thats a fact!!! i've seen more trouble in one evening in somewhere like kingston or windsor than i eva have in the blue!

come on people more constructive critism from now on; if you feel it necessary.... rather than just slagging off a good pub!!

Nuff Said!
JJWinkALot - 2 Jan 2006 14:32
It really is nothing like the toad. Yes the DJ is the same, that is where the similarities end. The toad was actually a nice bar with plenty of regulars that had a bad reputation from people who had never been in there past lunchtime.
The Blue Anchor however, is full of younger people and boys wearing trainers.

Alot of improvments could be made, that I agree on!
anonymous - 23 Dec 2005 00:16
I totally agree with the last comment....get the 'toad' manager out and put someone in there who knows whst they're doing, it could be a nice pub if it was managed properly!!!!!
anonymous - 16 Nov 2005 22:42
Do you want to know what happened 6 months ago. The management changed. The old Manager from the Toad took over and turned the Anchor in to the Toad. Toad staff, toad DJ's, toad doorstaff. TOAD SCUM. So much for people thinking he knew what he was doing!!!
anonymous - 16 Nov 2005 16:41
Chav Haven......need I say more?
staines789 - 16 Nov 2005 16:29
First night in Staines for a while and there was not one but two fights here.... not the welcome I had hoped for.

you'd do well to avoid.
anonymous - 14 Nov 2005 23:37
About five to six moths back this was a lovely pub. Nice and friendly staff and generally a good bunch of drinkers. Then something went tits up and you will be lucky if you don't get some kind of abuse while there. It was the best pub on the high street. Now its one of the scariest.
beerhero - 13 Oct 2005 13:17
Great place, cheap booze, open late, friendly bar and door staff. The George accross the road could learn a few things from them!
super_j - 21 Sep 2005 15:00
I didn't like this pub to begin with but its getting better and the saturday DJ's a Legend !!!
El_Capitain - 19 Sep 2005 15:33
just for the record - there was no incident involving the Blue Anchor on Friday, there was an incident outside involving nobody that was in the pub.

Saturday night was a bad night however was handled well by the doorman.

There is no need to be scared to come here it is a nice venue and trys its best to keep out the trouble.
anonymous - 26 Aug 2005 03:11
Not a good weekend for the blue anchor,
seriously you need to stop letting in all the trouble makers, This pub has good potential unfortunatly you let yourselves down by letting in the wrong crowd.
A serious inceident on fri and as i gather it was like a boxing ring in there on sat, you need to get more bouncers (OR SOME THAT ACTUALY LOOK LIKE THEY CAN LOOK AFTER THEMSELVES.)
I wouldnt be surprised if its dead in here this weekend people are proberly too scared they might get a table leg in their face.
anonymous - 25 Aug 2005 15:13
Read point 1 in that list again and ask yourself if it's still that strange.
anonymous - 3 Aug 2005 14:56
So many things wrong (apparently) with this pub, and yet it is always busy. How strange.
anonymous - 3 Aug 2005 14:41
theres quite alot wrong with the blue...

1. Pikies / Chavs / Caravan Inhabitants
2. The sticky carpet
3. The flooded toilets
4. The poo music
5. The miserable staff
6. The boucers that think they're the Cray Twins
anonymous - 31 Jul 2005 00:16
There's nothing wrong with the blue, yes it has all ex toad staff, dj's and management but so what!!!
It's an ok place to go for a late night drink and it's usually quite busy although i do think the Town Hall has taken away most of it's customers.
anonymous - 27 Jul 2005 11:08
nothing harsh about his comment.

all true I'm afraid to say.

anonymous - 10 Jul 2005 19:18
Thats a bit harsh!
anonymous - 1 Jul 2005 12:48
What a sh*t pub!!!
All the Staff are from the Toad, The D.J's are from the Toad they may aswell change the name to the Toad, This pub has gone right downhill since it was taken over by the new management.
The Blue used to be a good pub to go to but now it is just the Toad in a new location.
My opionion don't bother going there, The Town Hall is much better.
anonymous - 30 Jun 2005 13:33
maybe we liked the Toad but just dont like the blue!??
anonymous - 25 Jun 2005 14:10
Was here on Friday and had a great time. Looking at some of the other comments on here i think you just didn't like the Toad.

The people here now must be doing something right because i had the best night in Staines i've had for ages!! Me and my friends will come back!!!
anonymous - 15 Jun 2005 05:12
This place is just the toad across the road...old manager, staff, doorstaff and dj's!!!!!!!!
anonymous - 7 Jun 2005 11:21
This pub will always be the blue.. why do you think its now full of all the 'toad residents'. There is no toad.. Que Passa is hardly the same! I've had pleanty of fun filled nights in this place, n yea its changed over the years but doesnt everything??!
anonymous - 6 Jun 2005 12:43
Wall to wall charvers
anonymous - 6 Jun 2005 11:08
You dont have to be 'in with' the dj's, i'm not and they've still played my requests!!

anonymous - 6 Jun 2005 10:41
'' i know both seb and dan ''

and you wonder why they only play the songs u ask for!?

unfortunatly for the rest of us who aren't priveledged enough to be 'in with' the djs, they couldnt care less what we ask for.

thats why we avoid.
like the plague.
anonymous - 5 Jun 2005 00:01
Yes this pub does have the old toad dj's but they are good, i know both seb and dan and they will play any request you ask for...time permitting!

anonymous - 3 Jun 2005 11:51
I went here last night.

I used to go to the Toad often, and enjoyed it.

This however is not 'the toad in the blue'

I didn't have gold jewllery, a david dickenson tan and I don't live in a Caravan.

Very disappointed to say the least.

The womens toilets by the 'dance' floor where practically flooded - someone said tell the staff ... we would of had there been any there.

No bouncers except for on the door (about 6) and the bar staff - you couldnt get the bar for love nor money (not 2 mention the sticky carpet)

As for Seb - what on earth has happened to him!? He used to actually play som good music, last night all we got was 90s garage. Was awaful!!

Needless to say, we left early.
anonymous - 30 Apr 2005 14:29
"If you'd used your own ID you could have proved/disproved that theory; personally I suspect you posted the whole lot but hey that's you're problem...I'll just sit back and laugh."

So wheres your id?

Mines staines 789....mean anything to anyone?

I'm gonna sum it up in a oner or else it's gonna get boring, you have the people who inhabited the toad every friday and saturday for the last few years and they will love the blue anchor!

Then there's people, who I am inclined to agree with think that it is full of chavs and people so up their own I'm suprised they actually manage to make it through the door.

FACT: This pub is full of attitude now, but thats down to some of the customers. If you want to avoid that then go to nice places like haha's or baroosh where you actually get an apology if someone bumps into you rather than a dirty look. I'm not saying everyone who goes there is like that, but the ones that aren't will know what I mean, the rest will probably try and argue with me over it.

Anyway, like it's been said a hundreed times before, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I don't like the blue anchor anymore end of. Thats my opinion so don't bother trying to disprove it cos until something happens to change it it'll stay that way.

staines789 - 29 Apr 2005 16:29
SOMEONE TOLD ME IT WAS 11PM, YOU SURE ITS MIDNIGHT THEN? I WANA GET IN TONIGHT!
loulou - 29 Apr 2005 11:08
midnight - Friday and Saturday!!
anonymous - 29 Apr 2005 10:11
** URGENT **

I NEED to know what time the blue anchor stops letting people in on fri and sat nights?

Please some1 let me know!x
loulou - 29 Apr 2005 09:36
i am one of the DJs now working at the Blue, and I am not afraid to comment - with my identity - on the comments of all you guys posting away.

keep posting! i take pride in what i do - if you think i do it badly, then tell me! if you think i do it well, then come back and enjoy your time spent at the venue.

bottom line... all of your opinions are exactly that, YOUR opinions, which i respect, and everybody else should as well. stop sniping at each other. if you think the service is bad - tell somebody while you are there. if you think the DJs are bad - tell somebody while you are there. if you think the food is bad - well, i think you know what to do...

anon. posts on a www site is one thing, but you can make the Blue into the venue YOU want it to be by showing some balls, and actually telling the people who can change it what you think needs to change.

off soapbox.

is_it_really_seb - 26 Apr 2005 00:07
However it's most likely your an aggrieved male who has a problem with the place and has nothing better to do that run it down though posting anonymous comments....get a life.

If you'd used your own ID you could have proved/disproved that theory; personally I suspect you posted the whole lot but hey that's you're problem...I'll just sit back and laugh.
anonymous - 25 Apr 2005 14:10
yes because when I post as 'busty-babe' my comments r more valed!??!!?

as if.
anonymous - 25 Apr 2005 13:52
I remember the "Blue" from when I lived and worked in Staines - (drank in, dj'd at and was asst mgr at the Angel in the 80s) - it was big HM place in those days. I find it intriguing that the last five posts I have read are all posted anonymously, though. Have Staines people changed that much over the years that they can't even make their pseudo-identities available?

toffee_exile - 24 Apr 2005 23:48
'Opinions' - let people have them

Some like the new set-up, others don't - thats their right. Don't slag somebody else off because their opinion doesn't match yours!!

Personally i am keeping an open mind, i liked the old DJ but he had been there for a long time, i like the new DJ's as well so lets see what happens!!
anonymous - 24 Apr 2005 21:55
How are we missing the point.

You can have a good night anywhere agreed, but if the service is slow, the staff rude and the music boring, it's going to affect your night.

The blue offers all of the above, thats the comments on the venue, that fact that it ruins my nights is the outcome of these factors.
anonymous - 24 Apr 2005 15:04
''Treacle nice to see you at a place that will allow you to be a dj and play whatever music you want''

are you applying for Miss World? if so don't bother, you're from staines.
anonymous - 24 Apr 2005 14:51
I think you're missing the point.

This is about the venue, not a reveiw of your night.

You can have a 'good night' anywhere : it doesn't make the venue good!!
anonymous - 24 Apr 2005 14:47
The Blue Sucks.

I used to hate the toad, but loved the blue. And now the I hate the blue and am forced to goto Cheekees if my mates want to goto staines.

The Blue now has the same manager, dj's, bar staff, attitude and most importantly customers that the old Toad had. What did the new manager do, take the toads customers mobiles phones and text them all saying "I've taken over the blue, dont worry I'll turn it into the Toad and then you can all come there"

In mine, and many others opinions, ok the blue might be busier now, but the quality of the customers and music has fallen to that of the old toad. They've turned the best venue in staines into the worst.

Yeah, a lot of people like the blue, but they are mostly the old toads customers.

Also, heard a rumour they got rid of the old dj cause he was too repetative!!! Hello, have you not listened to the old toads dj's, I've got a mate who can tell you the order of their songs every night!
anonymous - 24 Apr 2005 14:32
Went into the Blue last night, had a great night - maybe the new people are not so bad after all ?????
anonymous - 24 Apr 2005 09:18
Two Words : STICKY FLOOR
anonymous - 20 Apr 2005 14:16
i went to the Blue Friday night and had a brillant time! Saw loads of people i hadnt seen in ages it was great! Treacle nice to see you at a place that will allow you to be a dj and play whatever music you want! I had been to the Blue once before and have to say my second visit was much better and i will be going back !!
Bambi - 19 Apr 2005 17:39
Some people may not like the fact that the Toad dj's have moved across.

But some of us do!! We had a great night on Friday and popped in briefly on Saturday and the music and atmosphere was so much better.

The only thing with this place is that it always seems to smell around the bar, not sure why it is but it gave me a good reason to get the girlies on the dancefloor!!

I'll certainly be coming back next friday.
anonymous - 17 Apr 2005 18:28
As if the Blue wasn't Chaved enough, they now get the left over djs from the toad.

One to avoid!
anonymous - 17 Apr 2005 14:00
So from the sounds of it the blue is going to be overun with the toads cast off customers and dj's. I think I'll avoid it in the evenings from now on, it's a nice place for a quiet drink in the day though
anonymous - 13 Apr 2005 15:00
I hear there is a new manager starting in a couple of weeks - this could be the turning point the Blue Anchor needs!!
anonymous - 28 Mar 2005 15:25
I used to love this pub - Mainly for the fact you could just watch them all it was amazing! I moved away 3 years ago and when I visited not to long ago the same saddo's were still in there and still giving out evils like they were cool!
anonymous - 26 Mar 2005 19:10
This 'bar' really is as awful as it ever was when it was a 'pub'

I daren't go in their for being blinded by fake gold curb chain.

anonymous - 17 Feb 2005 15:38
There are a few reasons why i would rather suffer from an std than go in the chav anchor. these are as follows:

1) the bar does indeed smell of sick
2) the music is lame. dj never plays requests.
3) one night they had a rock night and played the libertines and now they have scrapped the whole idea because the pikeys dont like it.
4) the dj has a receeding hair line
5) the place is full of sluts

frankly....its status is slowly but surely coming down to that of the litten tree.

anonymous - 16 Feb 2005 10:56
this place ranks highly, no sorry this place is just rank....

the front part of the bar does smell of sick. Only worth a visit if the Hobgoblin is not showing the footie match you want to see.

on Saturday's they have a free Burberry fashion show.

Is_it - 31 Jan 2005 13:23
Old Skool Night
Saturday 5th Feb
----------------
Tickets 2 each
loads of drink give-aways...

Should be fun.
gcnea - 28 Jan 2005 15:55
havn't been to the Blue for a while but by the sounds of your comments all is well.

DJ's have a very hard job in the fact that you can;t keep everyone happy all of the time -
"DJ" at the Blue tries his best the same as all DJ's - kepp it up mate.

Doorman, like wise - always seen has the bad guys - their ok too!!

Overall the Blue is cool - and from a Toad DJ, that says a lot!!!
www.djtreacle.net - 28 Jan 2005 12:41
the bouncers are fat losers here. they are rude to blokes or leery to the girls and mates to the easy girls.
Avoid this place like the plague if you want a decent hassle free night out.
anonymous - 19 Jan 2005 22:51
I like the blue.
Doorstaff are either fit or funny, not both (pete, ur just fit - soz kelly!?, graham ur jus funny, not fit, at all, every, so, stop thinking you are old timer, lol, kidding)
music is good, dj can be a laugh if he's not in a mood, actually he's quite fit too, especially if you compare him to the rest of the ones in staines, (fat boy and mr potatoe head at the toad, the twelve year old at cheekees!!)
Amtmosphere is usually good in the blue, unlike chav at two rivers, or the pikey tree.
anonymous - 18 Jan 2005 18:08
Pete stil is a doorman, he just doesn't work every weekend!!
He'll be working tonight (and tomorrow I think)
anonymous - 31 Dec 2004 18:20
if only you could see it now leighton!!

Ah memories...worked at 'The Bluey' back in 1988 when I was over in London on my big O.E. (overseas experience)all the way from Invercargill, NEW ZEALAND. I got transferred to the Anchor from The Greystoke in Ealing. The first really noticible difference was the really relaxed atmosphere at the Anchor as it was primarily a 'transit' pub for air travellers coming/going from/to Heathrow. So patrons were a mixture of local and transitees. There was virtually never any trouble and the biggest party of the week was Sunday afternoon between the hours of 12 and 3pm. I could never understand how so much bacardi and coke could be consumed over such a short period of time by the more Irish oriented patrons. Though the Welsh cultured locals were more competitive in the beer and lager product. The most demanding job I had was polishing the beautiful wooden floor...As I was a live-in barman my room was way at the top of the building up all those wee stairs...wages were something like 80/week...met some really neat folks however the best kept secret was the Gov and his wife who really looked after me at a rather difficult time for me.
Leighton - 16 Nov 2004 23:47
let's look at this with some logic u idiot...

the music is rubbish. and if people don't like it they've a right to say so.

so everyone who enters the doors has internet access and knows off this site?

don't be so nieve.

we dont like the music, so change it!
cyril h8r - 30 Oct 2004 20:40
Lets look at this with some logic.
10 complaints about the music over the last 6 months.
500 ppl in the pub every fri and sat.
Thats about 24,000 ppl through the door in 6 months, and only 10 ppl moaning.....

Cyril - 29 Oct 2004 10:51
I've been a few times and as a regular at the toad, its a really fresh change! I have asked for a few songs from the Dj and he's always played them for me, i think the music is quite good actually, its not exactly the same stuff you hear every SINGLE night at the toad! I would recommend it to others who are after a good light-hearted night out with friends. Maybe not the best place to pull tho........
Rob - 28 Oct 2004 14:56
la la bom ba. ohh, the music here is classy!!
a30 - 20 Oct 2004 23:14
music.... in one word....rubbish
fan - 26 Sep 2004 16:47
The DJ's beat matching is FANTASTIC!!

I have never seen somone mix soooo WELL!!

GENIUS!!

This place really is a classy joint, and why they dont play humpty dumpty I have no idea?!?!

Also apparently the flies in the place are nothing to do with the pig head on the stick...
Dave - 25 Sep 2004 16:43
I always try and play any requests I asked for, but if, for example, i've just finished doing the 'cheese' set and moved onto say house or r 'n' b, then I'm not going to go back and play 'Saturday Night' or 'Time Warp', the same as I'm not going to go back and play 'Sandstorm' after finishing the house set, although I will try if I can.
I'm only ever rude to people if they are rude to me, and please be aware that if you come and ask for a song when I've got my headphones to my head try to beatmatch, then I cant take a request right there and then, just be patient and I will take your request.
On the subject of request, I love the way everyone can come on here and slate the music, yet on most Fri/Sat nights, out of the 500 people in the pub, I might get five requests from people, if you dont like what you are hearing come and ask when I'm going to change to the music you do like, and maybe even ask for a song you would like to hear (but dont be rude about it 'change the music this is shit' and 'no one likes this shit' will get no where, especially when I've got a dancefloor full of people, just because you don't like the music at that point in the evening doesnt mean everyone doesnt.)
Joe, I would like to know why I'm the 'biggest chump', what's made you say that? Did I not play the nursery rhym you asked for?
DJ - 7 Sep 2004 02:47
the dj is a horrible actually and always refuses to play anyone asks and is always rude in the process
anonymous - 29 Aug 2004 14:20
Looked promising just after the refit but alas soon went downhill. Ignorant security staff barred my mate over an argument over drinking up time when he was right. He should know, he's a lawyer.
Simon - 18 Aug 2004 15:52
1. Zod - What the hell are you doing smelling the floor, are you that much of a pissed yob that you spend the night on the floor?

2. a30 - You said the music got better after 2 housr, If you werent a low life that drank in the Toad, you might have enjoyed the other 2.5 hours of music!!!

3. Joe - The bar staff ask and get the music they ask for, they actually LIKE the music, if you were to not be some of a little boy and go and ask for a tune, you might get the stuff you want.
anonymous - 31 Jul 2004 19:18
Whatever happened to the Big Bloke who was Head Doorman.... He left about a year ago ??? Anyway... The BLue Anchor is a nice pub, especially now its open til 1:30am....
Alexis - 29 Jul 2004 12:16
the place aint to bad, the music/dj is the worst in the U.K, he thinks hes well cool but he is just the biggest chump, he should go and DJ at Butlins maybe? The staff arnt bad seeing as they are really rushed and busy and have to put up with and listen to there clown of a DJ. Give the place a go but dont say I did not warn you about the noise pollution the DJ creates so well.
Joe - 29 Jul 2004 11:04
Terrible music, smelly floor, nasty clientele. Opens till 1am though, for last-chance ripper pulling.
Zod - 19 Jul 2004 15:30
Awful music, uninterested staff, nasty clientele, smelly floorboards....open till 1am though!
Zod - 19 Jul 2004 14:08
last friday was good...but the music was SH*T!!!! it got better after about 2hours of AWFUL AWFUL tunes. then it was time to leave for the toad...for some decent music!
a30 - 13 Jul 2004 19:20
Last friday was bangging. Start with some great old tunes, and the all the latest stuff, before I knew where I was, it was 1am.
Great night.
anonymous - 8 Jul 2004 16:36
Its not the DJ, it's the knobs that drink there sometimes.
anonymous - 8 Jul 2004 16:35
The DJ is propar whack
anonymous - 7 Jul 2004 09:59
What's happening with the blue?
Went in there last weekend, and it was really empty. Nothing stuck out as being different, music was good, bar staff and door staff were good, drink was to be expected (cold, wet and alcoholic).

this is probably the best venue in staines, why am I the only on to see it? Why arent you people going?
anonymous - 2 Jul 2004 12:40
The Blue Anchor is now open until 1.30 on a Friday and Saturday, so from now I me and my mates will have no need to go anywhere else. We used to goto the toad because it was open later, but the blue is a much better place and now it's open later too.
Paul T - 26 Jun 2004 19:46
OK Mr Anonymous from the 4th Jun, come in the blue, tell me who you are and what must you want, and I'll play it (no matter what it is I WILL play it if you tell me who you are).

At the end of the day, I am constantly saying if you've got any requests come and ask me. I get sod all requests all night, if you dont ask for what music you wanna hear, there's no g'tee I will play your style the night you are in there. I vary the music from week to week so it doesnt get so boring.
IF YOU DONT ASK YOU DONT GET
Blue's DJ - 17 Jun 2004 08:24
nothing wrong with the dj, got more styles of music then hair on his head. Think he does a good job, considering the mixed crowd that goes in there, always plays somethings for everyone

anonymous - 5 Jun 2004 16:27
I'm all for young pubs, but I guess it says more about Staines than anything else that at weekends it's full of attitude and chav-label clones. If you're over 25 go elsewhere. On Sundays, however, that Get Your Rocks Off DJ plays some excellent alternative stuff. Recommended.
Mr Anderson - 5 Jun 2004 13:50
Trend was the biggest joke, now they have moved it to the toad, so its going to be even worse now. the blue still sucks because of the awfull DJ, why dont they just get sombody good in there??
anonymous - 4 Jun 2004 12:02
Loose the shite DJ and this place might be alright.
anonymous - 26 May 2004 10:52
Last time I went in it reminded me of a school disco. Crap DJ and full of kids.
beerabuser - 21 May 2004 15:16
Crap pub, crap dj, crap staff, full of crappy idiots at the weekends! its just crap
Paul Baker - 12 May 2004 11:14
I think the pub is great. Full of lovely young ladies. They serve a nice cold pint of the fabulous fosters. The music is varied (well, on Friday and Saturday) when I have been there.
Richard Smith - 27 Apr 2004 13:50
d.j is awful!!! they have the worst night on a thursday!! cant remember what they name it. This place is a serious no go if you dont have blond camp high lights in your hair!! Not cheap for drinks!! Bar stuff have less intelligence than pigeons and are rude!!! What a wack night out!!!!
M Bedford - 7 Apr 2004 16:56
There's no doubt that this still a good pub to go to to watch any football, the place is crawling with T.V.s with SKY etc, and will show various games at once should there be mid-week European games.
Hal Richards - 31 Mar 2004 12:49
Thanks to Jane B for the great comments about "TRend", Im one of the promoters the next TRend will be at the Blue Anchor on the 8th April (bank holiday Friday the next day so no work WOOHOO!) Music policy is Hip Hop, RnB, Soul, Club Classics, Old Skool and Drum'n'Bass, all spread out throughout the night so theres something for everyone, cocktails are 2 for 1, and 4 jugs of Beer for the price of 3, 2.50 on the door only. We've held two TRend nights here before, no attitude whatsever, great atmosphere, great music and the best in DJ talent, if you want a great night out with no trouble then I'll be seeing you at the next TRend. Cya on April 8th.
Kurly - [email protected] - 23 Mar 2004 16:31
The Blue Anchor is apparently going to be, or has, applied for a 1.30 license for Friday and Saturday night. Let's just hope they start doing some decent drink offers!!!
anon - 22 Mar 2004 15:22
Last year's refurb smartened the place up and made it a pleasant, comfy evening spot. Now? It is truly shit, packed with territorial thugs, boy racers and lottery lout wannabes boiling over with attitude. Generally overbearing and threatening.
Mr Anderson - 8 Mar 2004 10:45
thats not true. he really is restricted by the managemnt of what he can play. unfortunatly he cant play all tunes even if u ask.
a30 - 26 Feb 2004 20:53
You're either the **** that asks for heavy metal or the other one that asks for Neil Diamond.

IF YOU DONT HEAR THE MUSIC YOU WANT IT'S BECAUSE YOU DONT COME AND ASK FOR IT.

YOU DONT ASK -- YOU DONT GET.
anonymous - 23 Feb 2004 12:32
woudlnt drink here if you paid me. full of idiots, are the bouncers are rude for no reason. not exactly a good mix of 'music' either.
a30 - 17 Feb 2004 21:03
Bring Back the Old Head Doorman.....

He was firm but fair and had a really cute smile....

not stroppy like the new one.... come back honey we all miss you !!
Alexis - 17 Feb 2004 17:12
music's good... friendly atmosphere... but... seriously... thankgod trafford left!!! :p
bob - 11 Feb 2004 15:51
Great pub, great music at the weekends, usually always something for everyone. And an honest dj too, if he isnt going to play your song he will simple just say no (or say the management wont let him, which I've asked about and it is true, they do restrict what he can and cant play.....hello, who's the dj!! DJ also thinks he's funny, but i must admit when i've spoken to him, he has been funny)
anon - 30 Jan 2004 09:57
this pub is only for really COOL dudes! Honest!!!!! just remember to bring some ID and to wear a FCUK top!! What a great night out! I have not had as much fun since I joined the chess club at school!! The d.j plays the best music in the universe and the bar staff r brill!! and all the really easy women do anything for a reef drink!!
Get a life, dont come here
tom lewis - 20 Jan 2004 15:42
One of the better pubs in Staines. Good for lunchtime beer and food. Table service is good and staff friendly. Prices are ok and the menu is average.
Takes on a different persona in the evenings and is full of the usual townies.
anonymous - 6 Jan 2004 11:24
Greatest pub in the world
Fit women bar staff!!
Seriously Trafford!!!
jack - 17 Oct 2003 10:21
Always used to provide a few gud laughs before moving on2 the toad on a friday or sat nite, gud music, not bad drinks, amusing bouncers, always laughed at r pics! meanies!
Kim - 17 Sep 2003 16:16
i went to a night called trend last thursday in the blue, it was exellent the music was great ther was a bit of evrything, some old garage hip hop, good oldskool classics and a bit of drum & bass at the end.
defenitly the best night out in staines WHEN IS THE NEXT ONE DOS ANY ONE KNOW??
JANE B - 10 Sep 2003 18:00
I have to say that the Blue Anchor might not have the best music in all the pubs in Staines, but the atmosphere is great.

The barstaff are always having a laugh and the bouncers are not at all aggressive, even when dealing with drunken idiots, which Staines has alot of.

Good pub, good staff and good atmosphere.......
Graham Gallentree - 10 Sep 2003 16:27
- Keep you up to date, the police have opposed the extended license, they've got too much trouble elsewhere to deal with, so it's been put back a little.
- The bloke with the bad luck was Vince, who also threatend the assistant manager that night too, strange man.
- How can you say the doorstaff arent cheesy, have you met Graham?
- Fay, ask or a shit tune, and guess what, I AINT GUNNA PLAY IT.
But please bear in mind, I am restricted in what I play, although I am trying to worm things into the play lists, some commerical garage is allowed now, which is a good start and I am trying to put in a little D+B now and then. Athough I am gunna try doing less cheese on a Saturday night.
- Saturday 2nd August - OLD SKOL NIGHT. Tickets 2, wear school uniform get your first drink free. yarda yarda yarda.
- Whats the difference between the head doormans car and a smashed up Lexus -- NOTHING. lol
didge - 26 Jul 2003 15:58
You have to laugh at teh luck of some people.....

I was drinking in the Blue on sunday night and this bloke picked on a girl. Not only was she a bouncers girlfriend, this bloke did it in front of all the Blue's doorstaff who happened to be in there on a night off drinking.......

Better luck next time mate !!!
Claire - 10 Jul 2003 11:50
Just wanted to say I was down there on saturday night and the DJ would not play a song I asked for and told me to go away.

Get over yourself, your a DJ its your job to play the songs customers want....
Fay - 4 Jul 2003 17:21
Yeah I know what you mean about the female barstaff.

But the doorstaff are all great, they are all such a good laugh, and not sleazy like most bouncers
Lynsey - 2 Jul 2003 12:42
the doorstaff r alrite, but the female bar staff r to far up there own arses, the toad has much fitter girls
peter - 29 Jun 2003 13:44
GREAT PUB and a GREAT NIGHT OUT..... Keep it up BLUE ANCHOR.

Hurry up and get your extended licence... So we dont have to go down to the other naff pubs in Staines
Helen - 27 Jun 2003 11:29
Fair play, try and speak some more and encourage people to get up and have a laugh with the customers....
sophie - 27 Jun 2003 11:26
Have you actually looked at the dance floor area. Its empty at the start, no one wants to dance. On comes the cheese, the dance floor fills up...... OLD SKOOL NIGHT THIS SATURDAY. Have to dig out my old tie....
didge - 23 Jun 2003 13:52
The DJ palys some good tunes SOMETIMES, but he insists on playing cheese all the time. He also need to talk about more and get people going, have a laugh and get people up and dancing
Sophie - 20 Jun 2003 14:26
Was down the Blue, last friday night and this bloke was being well out of order. The head doorman came over and asked him to leave. He gave him the opportunity to walk out but the guy got very abusive. The Doorman had to remove him. I think its a refreshing change to see professional Doorstaff rather the the thugs you see in some pubs in Staines. Keep up the good work guys......
Laura - 17 Jun 2003 11:13
My mate, Thom Baltimora, a real Ashford mentalist, got thrown out for rucking with a couple of Hotspur fans. Undeterred by his predicament, he gained access by scaling the side wall, entering through the window in the gent's bogs. However, once in the pub, he thought it would be a good idea to boast about his ‘unlawful entry’ to the bouncers - who proceeded to throw him out for a second time. That's what happens when you show off.
The Human Fly Connoisseur - 16 Jun 2003 13:57
Some very fit female barstaff.

Very good atmosphere, and always a good friday and saturday night out for all.
Matt - 12 Jun 2003 09:39
If there is any trouble the bouncers are always there quickly.

They are a good laugh and make you feel relaxed. But be warned don't misbehave cos you will be thrown out.
Alexis - 12 Jun 2003 09:37
Really good friday night out. some fit barman and doorstaff....

Alexis - 12 Jun 2003 09:34
more staff then customers
no atmosphere
why do i have to climb mount
everest to go for a pee.
phil - 27 May 2003 21:33
good girlllllll count! if your eating thursday to saturday evening watch out for your food bouncing around the plate as the music is very loud....a dancefloor and disco lighting makes it good for a.......dance!!!!the chief boss doorman looks like peter kay in a big bigggg way, which makes it kind of a celebrity pub!!
james - 2 May 2003 20:28
Excite Pub for a quick drink and feast at lunch time!
