Just spent an enjoyable 2 nights at the Unicorn. Made to feel at home by Gordi the host.
The beer was well kept (Butcombe Gold), and very welcome in the current heatwave!....and as for the steaks...the best i have ever come across...
The room was comfortable as well!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

After getting a lukewarm welcome from disinterested bar staff, I almost fainted on the beer prices in here. Food prices arent cheap either, so much sandwiches and a beer for 4 of us came to 27!

I also had an issue with the beer garden which promises a lot with nice seating and a live aviary. However, what really ruins it, is bang in the middle of the outside area is a covered pagoda with enclosed sides for the smokers which gives the beer garden a furtive atmosphere. Not condusive.

Brilliant pub; good ale, good atmosphere, marvellous food. Smoking area great with its own woodburner. Wonderful roaring fire. Good range of ales; OK you can get cheaper in the free trade but this is a Youngs tied house and the beer is well kept. Some good meal deals in the week.

Bloody awful! Really big head on the beer and really overpriced!

Last time I went here, I asked for a pint of London Pride.
I almost fainted when asked to pay for it.
I said "London Pride love, not London prices!"
Ripoff.

The sign outside said "roaring fire" and that was enough to pull me in. The beer was good too.

We stayed here for a night a few weeks ago. It was a Sunday so everything was very quiet but the pub was welcoming and has a fantastic old fireplace with log fire kept in all winter. Although it was a Sunday evenoing they were accomodarting with providing some club sandwiches when they were not normally available. The beer was reasonably well kept and the staff friendly. I expect at a busier time it would have a good atmosphere. I am not a smoker but it looked as if they had made some effort to provide a cosy smoking shelyter incluidng a nice solid fuel stove. Worth a visit.

very good Bombardier and open all day. not marvellously fitted out inside, but almost retains its old market-town hotel feel.

Heaven on a stick. Great atmosphere, with splendid mix of clientele. Fine selection of beers, although it is sad that as a Young's pub, Special is not available. Thatcher's cider is available on draught and is excellent. Smallish bar area and generally very busy, but staff are very friendly and helpful. Seperate dining room - fantastic food, but booking is advised.

I pop in here for lunch when I'm in the area on business, so although I can say that the food and ambience are great, the pub is welcoming, and the huge open fire is exactly what you want in a west country pub, I cannot comment on the beer. It drives me mad not to be able to have a couple of post-lunch pints by the fire, but such is life...you want the one you can't have.
