Impossible to get served after the Rod Stewart concert. We left thirsty even though Elvis was in the building!!!! You had to be there to understand what I am on about.

Was here on New Year's Day lunchtime before catching a train. As usual in here, getting served took an eternity, with people ordering coffees and food. But there is always a good selection of beers. On this day, it was Peerless Lottie Dod, Greene King Abbot, Ruddles Best, Phoenix Hopsack, Sharp's Doom Bar, Brewsters Hop A Doodle Doo, Caledonian Bitter Winter, Wolf Granny Wouldn't Like It, Adnams Old Ale, Naylor's Santa's Dark Side & Banks's Sunbeam. The two Weston's ciders were Wyld Wood & Old Rosie. I seem to recall having the Santa's Dark Side, which was passable.

A blueprint Wetherspoons. Everything is in order from the over worked bar staff to the dirty tables to the excellent quality beer.

Only came to get a Good Beer Guide Tick!

Changed my opinion now - as I am a regular there ! [ Mainly due to the gorgeous Polly ]

Yes, it's a Wetherspoons - but one of the better ones.

Can be a long wait at the bar, but food does come quickly and is reasonable. Usually a good selection of guest ales.

Clientele is varied. not usually a problem with screaming kids, drunks or chavs. Just avoid on Wolves matchdays, and when there is an event on at the Grand Theatre.

Usual 'Spoons great real ale selection in excellent condition. (Never had a duff pint at any 'spoons). Nice staff as always at 'Spoons but unusually plenty of them so no need to drink at the bar in expectation of a long wait! Maybe Mr Martin is geting the message; our resource limitation is often time, not cash: Serve us faster to make us poorer & you richer!

Large open fronted 'spoons a quick walk from the train station.

Had 20 minutes before trains so popped in for a 'tick' and a pint.

Decent selection of ales on with a discount of 20p per pint for Camra carrying card holders making my pint just £1.65.

Pleasant and efficient bar man, older crowd and a good selection of ales what more do you want at 10.15am on a Saturday.

Very busy on boxing day, but a good atmosphere, very quick food service despite the throng, a fine pint of Wood's Shropshire Lad for £2.09 and a very tasty dish of faggots, peas and chips for £4.09. On this occasion Wetherspoon's provided a better experience than might be expected. Well worth the visit.

Well, if nobody else is going to do any reviews of this place, I'll do another! With a 35 minute wait for a train, I was back here on Saturday morning. Not much has changed. Although I suspect some of those waiting at the bar last time may well have been still there waiting. Service is very slow, especially on a Saturday morning when all staff are pre-occupied taking breakfast orders and crowded around the coffee machine. It took so long to get served that I nearly missed my next train. Beers on were Greene King Abbot Ale & Ruddles Best, Springhead The Leveller, Banks's Mild, Nick Stafford's Hambleton Ales Nightmare, Wychwood Hobgoblin, Summerskills Whistle Belly Vengeance, Caledonian 80/' & Batemans Veto Ale. The solitary real cider was Westons Old Rosie. Still a decent stopping point before real pubs open.

Paid a visit to this pub whilst changing trains in Wolverhampton. It's about a 5 minute walk from the station. The usual Wetherspoons open plan layout with booths at one side. There are 3 sets of handpulls with a good range of beers. On during my visit were Ruddles Best, Banks's Mild, Greene King Abbot Ale, Lymestone Foundation Stone, Holdens Special, Christmas Blaster & Av It, Butcombe Christmas Steps, Northumberland Fairies Liquid and Sadlers Winter Spice. In addition, there were 4 real ciders from Westons - Marcle Hill, Bounds Scrumpy, Old Rosie & Vintage Organic. I sampled a quick breakfast before heading back to the station. The place certainly has its local characters who kept me amused whilst tucking into my full English.

TYpical "Wetherpub" - nothing actually wrong with it, but just like so many others. Central bar, some little alcoves down one side, family oriented area at the back. Had a reasonable pint of Red Kite Ale.

Went because it wass the beer festival, otherwise I would never go there, since it's only 5 mins walk from the Great Western

5/10

Typical 'spoons'. Not much more to say really. McDonald's concept food and beers are normally in reasonable condition. Better pubs in Wolves.
wolvesfan - 28 Oct 2010 12:47
Four beers from Marstons and Greene King and five Guest Ales provided a better than average Wetherspoon line up. The beers sampled were in good nick. Decent food served in good time. Efficient staff. Can't ask for more really. Even the clientele made me feel quite young.

I went for breakfast just after 9am on a Sunday. Usual mix of early drinkers and early breakfasters. It was even too early for me to have a beer, but the range was very good, obviously cannot comment on the quality. The one thing that really stood out was the very friendly service, not always evident in Wetherspoons bars.
Dylanwing - 20 Jul 2009 14:38
For me, slighly under the typical Spoons standard.

The look and layout is the same as the rest and the food the same, served quickly and with a smile. Service at the bar seemed to be left to one happy and helpful guy, while other staff busied themselves doing cleaning and the matriarch watched.

The choice of beers, is again, excellent. Usual tosh, Banks's MILD smooth and several ales; Cairngorm Wildcat was top notch.

The clientele is a good mix, however, there are always plenty of 'dipsticks' around and the scale of the Benson & Hedges guard of honour at the entrance is amazing.

Decent couple of pints of Old Hookey...but....
We had a well behaved 9 month old with us (sign says children allowed if eating) whilest eating at lunchtime and asked if they could warm her food up for her (1 minute in a microwave!). We were told in no uncertain terms by the "Umpalumpa" behind the bar that it was not possible because of "cross-contamination"... an unopend tin of Heinz Baby Food verses a JDW kitchen...makes me wonder where the contamination is ? !!! She managed to eat it cold...bless!

Typical Wetherspoons except that I could get served quickly. A good selection of beers. I tried the Sadlers Mud City Stout and the Beowulf Hurricane which were on good form whilst chomping on a mixed grill. I had intended eating in the Chinese Buffet on School Street but they informed me that they were now doing their Xmas banquet. Same food 3 more expensive on Dec 1st!! Sadly there was one dipstick in here who claimed he wanted a fight with anyone. He didn't get it happily. Pretty good for a Wetherspoons.

Great pub, the managers are absolutely brilliant and deserve a pay rise.

Excellent pint of Guinness, lot of people in pub for 5.00 pm Sunday afternoon, good stop off before catching train, OK pub

I was in early and ordered a breakfast but no beers to tempt me. One lady was abrupt but another couldn't do enough for me. Food was good. More beers were on by the time I finished eating, but still not tempted.

Beer festival on at the moment with guest beers at 1.49 deffinitely the cheapest in town. No guest MILD today but there will be a MILD next week. Had a pint of the regular Highgate Dark MILD, quality can vary in this pub but today it was an excellent pint. Like all Wetherspoon pubs it attracts a few strange looking characters but today everyone looked super chilled. Must be the blazing sun-shine. Supped my MILD while deep in thought about the sparcity of MILD in Wolverhampton, having just been in the Posada and the Goose, both no MILD; no MILD walkout.
Stus.search.4.mild - 13 May 2006 00:34
Sometimes has a MILD, but haven't got a clue how it should be kept.

Remember the mantra: NO MILD WALK OUT.
nomild_walkout_mac - 5 May 2006 16:54
