Jam Circus, Brockley

I was incredibly surprised to see the negative review about Jam Circus by planchic as I would whole heartedly disagree with them. I was not born and brought up in the South East (I'm a South Westerner from Wimbledon!) but have enjoyed living in Brockley for the past 3 years. Jam Circus is a regular haunt for me, my boyfriend and our friends who also live locally. Though I have been away for the past 4 months, I'm back on Friday and will most definitely be stopping by that evening for a welcome home drink.

Jam Circus is one of the warmest, friendliest, cosiest and laid back bars I have ever had the pleasure of entering, with welcoming staff, excellent food and a brilliant fire. I would recommend it to anyone (and have done), and will continue to give them my patronage for as long as is physically possible.

Keep up the good work Jam Circus - you're fudging brilliant! See you Friday, where I will be happy to indulge in a glass of wine.

Three Sisters, Edinburgh

Though I have had a few good nights in here, it's not in my top 20 drinking venues in Edinburgh. It can be a laugh (especially when someone you are with wins 1 minute behind the bar! Painful but great!) but as mentioned in previous review, it stinks of vomit more often than not and is a haven for hen/stag parties. Not my idea of fun, but every so often it can be wicked. Try at your own discretion.

The Star Bar, Edinburgh

I genuinely love this bar. There is nothing that stick out that makes it so great, it is an amalgamation of wonders. Unfortunatley I only found it aout 9 months before I left Edinburgh but I make sure I go there whenever I am visiting my mates. Has all the board games you used to play as a kid (jenga, monopoly etc), tattered books, table football, a jukebox that plays for 20p a song - that alone should sell it! good selection of beers, not so good for wine but no complaints. Great for a quiet/boozy night which more often than not turns into a brilliant night.

Mezz, Edinburgh

I used to live just down the road from this bar and it was always an excellent place to come of an evening when you couldn't be bothered to write your disseration any more. Or on a sunday afternoon when you were a bit hungover and wanted feeding. Or for last orders on your way home from a gruelling shift. Excellent selection of spirits, not sure about the beer/lager situation as am more of a wine kinda gal. Good deal on vino "buy 2 glasses, rest of bottle free" last time I was there - don't know if they are still doing it. Very friendly. Good food.

The Jekyll and Hyde, Edinburgh

I don't care what anyone says about this bar, I loved it when I was in Edinburgh. Mind you, I did know the majority of the bar staff so it was always a friendly atmosphere to me! It is hysterical watching people (namely tourists!) getting directions to the toilets, walking round the pub then deciding they don't really need it! Last time I was there they had a fab magician - not sure if he is still doing the rounds. I am in no way a goth but it is still one of the best themed pubs in Edinburgh. I never been into an eerie pub like it. Excellent.

Hectors, Edinburgh

I love this bar to go to on a sunday afternoon and just chill. Excellent coffee, good atmosphere. Just as good in the evenings though I didn't frequent as it was easier to go into central Edinburgh. Good decor.
