Not sure about the ales, but the food is very good.
Not cheap, but worth the price to know you will get good food. I have been on about 3 or 4 occassions and always really enjoyed myself. Last time I was there they were doing a deal (�15 a bottle of bubbly), which definitely helped the evening go smoothly.
Warmly recommended.

Full of undesirables but a good hustle and bustle atmosphere. Usually pretty busy

That review is a little muddled. Not sure what happened there, but you get the gist.

Went there just after xmas 2007 and was disappointed with the experience.
First thing was the smell. Stale ale anyone? I understand that smoke used to mask these smells but it was still quite overpowering.
Nearly had an argument with the bar lady (perhaps landlady) trying to explain that Baileys should be served as a 50ml measure. She wasn't having it.
I think I'll head to The Fox in future.
Then had to have words with one of the regulars about intensely staring at the two girls I was with as it was making them feel very uncomfortable. He got very shirty and was ejected. According to the other locals he does it all the time.

Mackenzies Cafe Bar, West Malling
The food here is revolting, unless you really really like cheese.
It astounds me how any restaurant can serve up bad Italian food, especially a restaurant that has been around for so many years. Italian food is a simple pleasure and I'm amazed how bad it was at this establishment.
I have been here twice in the last couple of months (I didn't want to go back the 2nd time but it was a friend's bday and she had booked to go here). Both times my food was drowned in so much cheese I thought I was going to have a cardiac arrest imminently.
1st time I had a lasagne - much cheese, minimal meat.
2nd time I had a pizza - the menu said the topping would be spicy beef, onions and mushrooms. As it turned out it was so swamped in cheese I couldn't tell if any of the other elements of the pizza were there or whether I'd just been conned.
And to add insult to injury, it's quite expensive for an Italian.
Avoid the food!
It's not bad for a few drinks upstairs though.

This has now been turned into 2 little houses that have sold in remarkable time.
