Lewes Arms, Lewes

Fullers takeover has done some good, and glad to see they honoured the Harveys. Looks pretty busy most nights, has been nicely redecorated and the food is delicious, allbeit in rather small portions that may leave you feeling slightly shortchanged. Good pints of HSB are to be had, plus a very nicely decorated place with decked terrace at the back. Good port of call if you're visiting the town.

The Hobgoblin, Brighton

Really not a good pub at all. The kind of place where not liking Metallica is considered something of a cardinal sin by the patronage. Grubby decor, not a great selection of beer (never cared much for Hobgoblin) and a generally unwelcoming atmosphere. Still, I suppose if you're into that kind of thing its perfect.

The Flying Fish, Newhaven

Service is perfectly acceptable, Shepherd & Neame beers are the next best thing to herveys probably and a lovely cosy place with a roaring fire on cold days and comfy armchairs. However, the food is this place's biggest selling point. Good quality ingredients used (a little more expensive than other places but then one can just have a delicious baguette) and I can't think of any other pub nearby that can offer dishes like Woodpigeon with caramelised pear. Wonderful.

The Brewers Arms, Lewes

No complaints whatsoever about this place. Excellent turnover of some pretty good guest ales plus harveys is always there too. Tasty food at good prices, probably not the greatest pub you'll ever visit but certainly better than some other ones in Lewes. Never not enjoyed a trip there.

The Ram Inn, Firle

Love this place. Food a bit pricier than other pubs but then is much better than a lot of pubs. One can easily see why it gets so busy at meal times. The rest of the time it's a wonderful place with quality ales (Harveys included, of course), friendly service and a great old toad in the hole table. Gorgeous surroundings for walking and a lovely old pub building in the beautiful village of Firle. Thoroughly recommend it.

The Hampden Arms, South Heighton

Used to be a pretty nice place, cosy and a good place if you're bored on a Thursday evening. Then it went all classy and they got rid of the jukebox and replaced the pool table with a chessboard and a fish tank. Not surprising that you only see the regulars in there. Quiz nights still a laugh and has the redeeming feature of still doing Harveys, so thats something I guess.
