The Lincolnshire Poacher, Nottingham

Can't really be any more positive than gothiron who sums up the pub admirably. I, too, found the Harvest Gold to be wonderful. A new cask was just coming on as we ordered and indeed, it was pure bliss. Well done to all at this pub.

The Cock and Hoop, Nottingham

A little Gem. Well worth seeking out if you are a visitor to Nottingham. Good range of beers, but nothing particularly out of the ordinary apart from a special brew from local brewery Castle Rock. Very pleasant member of staff on at the time of our visit (4pm 24.5.2005) who took time out from her cleaning responsibilities to answer my questions on the no smoking policy that was introduced (Dec 2004). Yes, I am fully behind any pub/brewery/chain that takes this bold step. Full marks and very well done.

The Bell Inn, Nottingham

Wonderful pub with a great range of beers.
On the day of our visit (24.5.2005) there were three Milds available. Friendly and helpful member of staff who made the time to have a chat with us. Sadly a rarity in any pub these days. We sampled Hardy & Hansons Mild and also an excellent one from Burton
Bridge. Both were superb.

Ye Olde Dolphin Inn, Derby

Quite busy at the time of our visit (Saturday 5pm)with food and drink, so the lone member of staff needed to be efficient. We were served promptly with Deuchars IPA (in order for us to check the quality in comparison with our own local - it was just as good!)

Station Inn, Derby

Friendly welcome from the licensee although at the time of our visit (Saturday 2.45 pm.)he was about to close for the afternoon. I would guess, from a visitor's point of view, that this is more of a 'locals' pub. However, the few customers present were eager to chat to us. Bass is served from the jug and beer on draught was Black Sheep Bitter and our choice on the day, Jennings Cumberland.

The Smithfield, Derby

Good choice of beers, although our selection of Burton Bridge Bitter was poor on the day we visited.

The Old Silk Mill, Derby

Good choice of beers. Our Black Cat Mild was excellent on the day of our visit. Friendly staff.

The Flowerpot, Derby

I guess this pub gets its name from the large yellow shrub that grows from an upstairs window-frame! Great selection of beer, however our choice on the day was poor. With over 20 beers to go at it will always be hit and miss unless you know of one particular brand that is moving. Large multiroomed interior belies the pub's size from the roadside.

The Brunswick Inn, Derby

After visiting most of the CAMRA entries for Derby in the 2005 Guide, the Brunswick gets my top pub vote. Excellent range of house beers and guests available too. Good service. Was worth our four-hour round trip just to visit this pub alone.

The Alexandra Hotel, Derby

Took in the Alex as part of our Derby crawl earlier this month. Excellent choice of beer. Friendly staff and terrific railway memorabelia.

The Babington Arms, Derby

Paid a visit earlier this month and was very impressed. Great range of Milds (about 8, I think).
Tried four and all were excellent. Although quite busy at the time of our visit (Saturday afternoon) the staff were prompt and courteous. One of the best Wetherspoons I have been to.
