Profile information

I have worked in the licensed trade for almost 20 years managing several pubs in the York and North Yorkshire areas. After a recent break, I now assist at my local hostelry on a part-time basis, which gives me the opportunity to search for good quality real ale in different areas of the North of England at regular intervals.

The Lincolnshire Poacher, Nottingham

Can't really be any more positive than gothiron who sums up the pub admirably. I, too, found the Harvest Gold to be wonderful. A new cask was just coming on as we ordered and indeed, it was pure bliss. Well done to all at this pub.

The Cock and Hoop, Nottingham

A little Gem. Well worth seeking out if you are a visitor to Nottingham. Good range of beers, but nothing particularly out of the ordinary apart from a special brew from local brewery Castle Rock. Very pleasant member of staff on at the time of our visit (4pm 24.5.2005) who took time out from her cleaning responsibilities to answer my questions on the no smoking policy that was introduced (Dec 2004). Yes, I am fully behind any pub/brewery/chain that takes this bold step. Full marks and very well done.

The Bell Inn, Nottingham

Wonderful pub with a great range of beers.
On the day of our visit (24.5.2005) there were three Milds available. Friendly and helpful member of staff who made the time to have a chat with us. Sadly a rarity in any pub these days. We sampled Hardy & Hansons Mild and also an excellent one from Burton
Bridge. Both were superb.
