The Windsor, Penarth

Good pub. Friendly staff, strong range of beers and lagers, good if basic pub grub, unbelievable range of bar snacks (.. from pork scratchings to creme eggs?)and plenty of tables for you and your mates to banter. Will def go back.

The Albion, Penarth

If you can get past the hard stares from the locals (and sometimes the staff) this is a good traditional pub with above average beer. Would go more often if there was a warmer welcome.

The Windmill, Mayfair

Fab find, not too far from the pub death row that can be Oxford St. Great selection of beer and lagers, lots of tables, on the ball staff, good food options, or, simply put - a pint, a pie and a seat!

Loved the fact that it has no pretensions, not trying to be anything other than a good solid British pub, will definitely go back.

Brandling Arms, Gosforth

What a transformation and a very welcome addition to Gosforth's pub options. A wide range of drinks -cracking guest beers, unusual lagers, great wines and even good non alco range with fruit juices, coffees and teas. Blackboards announce a gastro-style menu and the interior could almost be like your dream living room - if only you spent less time in pubs and more time kitting your home out with clever comfy sofas, bespoke lighting and trendy wallpaper! There are a lot of thoughtful and original touches to this pub and a lot of reasons to return!

Tilleys Bar, Newcastle

Fab range of beer, lager and ciders, friendly staff and not a bad Sunday roast either! Can get a bit smokey on fuller nights, so strange that the no smoking area is not in keeping with the rest of the pub so you feel a little out of place.

The Free Trade Inn, Byker

A pub that is proudly unchanged! Unrivalled views, esp. from the beer garden, endearingly scruffy inside with guinness that keeps its head to the bottom of the glass. Who wouldn't want to go back?

The Three Crowns, St James's

If you want just want a standard British pub in the heart of Picadilly, then this could be it. Not trying to be anything other than a boozer. Can be a good place to meet before or after theatre or as a bolt hole from the vast theme bars that surround it.

The Lord Stanley, Camden

Best roast beef sunday lunch I have ever had!

Go for the well above average gastropub menu (which they seem to cook on 4 bunsen burners at the end of the bar), the walled beer garden with over sized tables and chairs, good range of beers, wines and lagers and the friendly local (who looks like the experimental love child of Asterix and Obelix) who shakes your hand on arrival and collects your empties.

Avoid if you like your pubs 5 mins from a tube station, want the chairs to match the tables and want to pay less than 2.50 for a pint of "house" lager.

The Green, Clerkenwell

A very pleasing little pub with an original range of beers, wines and bar food (tapas), plenty of tables and a free jukebox.

Only been on week nights, where the mix is Clerkenwell casuals meet City types, who have sought out a break from the chain, which seems to make for a friendly enough atmosphere.

If only the bar was a little bigger so you didn't have to wait quite so long to get served. Which I think means that either you or the bar staff can get a little stressed at times.

The Endurance, Soho

The Endurance was a really pleasing lunch venue in the wastelands of Soho on a Sunday! Unlike other recent reviews we had the friendliest of staff, good comforting food served in good time and with much need fab Bloody Marys too. Will definitely go back.
