I've just read through your report of the Railway Inn at Aldeburgh and realised that you forgot to add that u spent the end off the nite asking my girlfriend whos 16, out on a date"

Sorry, Buzzman, am adding it now. Better late than never, eh!

The Kings Arms, Downton

Without a shadow of a doubt, the only boozer worth stopping off in Downton for! (And Downton isn't, in itself, worth stopping off in...) But if you're from the Salisbury area, or passing thru on your way to the south coast, call here. Great atmosphere, great beers, great company. And the annoying French chef has gone!

The Bull, Downton

Hmm. Think the previous posters lacked the energy to make it over the bridge to the Kings! More a "restaurant with bar" than a pub.

The Village, Salisbury

The ale cannot be faulted in Joe's pub. And he provides a chalk board for you to suggest future guest ales (he takes note, too!)
A little slice of history. Not many pubs like this nowadays, more's the pity.
Try it - you won't be disappointed.

The Duke of York, Salisbury

The Duke is tucked away down a sidestreet, about 5 minutes walk from the city's railway station. It is Salisbury's main (only?) gay venue. Ideal if you're gay, but don't be put off if you're not! Very swish interior, pool table, good music. Never any trouble, ideal if you are having an affair and want to be an "incognito" couple for the evening. Hey! Who's gonna admit they saw you in there?? Great bar, friendly regulars, attentive staff.Doesn't open during the day. Very tight on age, you will be carded, similarly, does not have under-age prats. If you're confident of your own sexual orientation, be that straight, gay or bi-, you have no excuse not to add this to your Salisbury crawl.

The Cat Tavern, Salisbury

Potentially a great little boozer, ruined by tramp clientelle. Need a pint of ruff cider at 10 in the morning? They beat you to it. Nasty Mancunian regular named Mick. If the Landlady got tuff, she could make a killing with this ideally located bar.

The Wilton, Salisbury

Decent jukebox. Much improved but located on the edge of the city so easily overlooked. Strangely, attracts a good number of single, available girls.

The Green Man Inn, Tunstall

Had a bit of a reputation in the past, but has been turned around by the current Landlady. Will need to visit again to give a full, accurate review, but at the moment would say that I would happily take my girlfriend and kid in here without worries.

The Railway Inn, Aldeburgh

An absolute gem! I paid two visits to this pub, a fortnight apart. On the second visit, they recalled my name and that always works for me! Donna and Geoff, originally from the Nottingham area, have a blinder of a boozer here. Punters range in age from 18 to 70 and it works. Carpeted throughout, with clean, modern toilets, this is definitely a pub that should be on your "To Do" list if visiting the Suffolk coast. Usual Adnams fare, but served with a genuine smile. I had to visit this pub twice, because I couldn't believe that I hadn't found a fault first time. Didn't find one second time either. Traditional boozer - pool table and juke box - but still feels "a cut above". Also, the Gaffer feeds the jukebox with cash so you are guaranteed free choons. Come the summer, they host BBQs so I will make a point of returning. If the food is anywhere near the quality of the hospitality, it will be priceless.Well maintained, and the care and attention to detail is reflected in the quality of the ale served.

Rated Pub_Critics No.1 Suffolk Pub!!

The Elephant and Castle, Eyke

A real dive. If you want the pub dogs to jump on your lap and slobber all over you while the Landlady's kids play pool, then this is the one for you. I wouldn't give them the satisfaction of spending my money in here again. If you want to waste yours, go ahead!

The Froize Inn, Chillesford

No smoking. No loitering at the bar. The food can't be faulted, although there is a school cafeteria atmosphere. I would happily take a Sunday School outing here, but not my wife.
