The Woolpack, Ipswich

Still a top pub and Dave's food is smashing. 6 cask ales on these days which rocks.

The Arboretum, Ipswich

I went in on Sunday with the GF and found the food to be fantastic. Restaurant quality and then some. Hearty portions of local and well cooked fresh fodder with everything made in house. The price reflects this though I guess this depends on the context as its not Wetherspoons and you get what you pay for. My repast on Sunday was immense and cooked to perfection. We went again on the Monday for a snack and Even a simple cheese and chutney sandwich is poetry. Home baked crusty bread, sweet chutney made on the premises and really high quality cheese. I would have welcomed a big plate of proper chunky chips with this but they dont do them at lunch time for some strange reason.

Dont get me wrong, this is a welcoming place with friendly staff, the manager is an ausy but I can forgive him this as his cask ale policy is top notch in all ways. 3 local micro brews plus a national depending on his mood and good prices means that this place should be counted on any good Ipswich crawl along with the Woolpack, Spread Eagle, Dove and fat Cat. Do give it a try and support this independentfree house.

Oh, the guide-dogs were provided for also with no questions asked and water was offered as soon as we had ourdrinks. Perfect.

They lose a mark because of a lack of chips at lunch time.

The Spread Eagle, Ipswich

This is what a modern pub should be. Smashing bishops finger on last time I was in the TT landlord is also kept well. Comfortable welcoming and a credit to the new management. Its also none threatening and female friendly.

The Triangle Tavern, Lowestoft

The Triangle Tavern is a lovely pub with a good range of ales.
The pub is propper spit and sawdust in a modern stylee and the
posters adorning the wall were all beer related. Belgium ales
are on tap and they even had some rum aged cider which was
Chris's choice.. I went for Mahseera ipa which was on good form
and went down too well. My second choice was the Canary from
Green Jack this to me was malty and to me a little tasteless. I
did keep away from the beak you'll be glad to know. Green Jack
Brewery do some really good beers and the pub which is the
brewery tap is a must try if in this area.. They put some loud
music on when we went into the second room of the large pub I
guess because we were a bunch of young trendy things
together; And if you
really believe that you are so foolish!
this pub is surely Lowestoft's treasure. br> They even do a yard of ale drinking
competition and the Triangle
Tavern yard of ale champion 2007 is Doski who finished it in 18
seconds which is not to be sniffed at.
Bar snacks included pickled eggs and rollmops. mmmm, what more
does a bloke require at half 12 on a Satterday afternoon.
Later in our short visit we went around the back of the pub and
had a look around the brewery. Green Jack had a 10 barrel plant and
apart from the St Judes brewery in Ipswich it is the smallest Jaid and I
have ever been in. In fact the brewer told us they produce more
beer per square foot than any other British brewer. they use
challenger and pioneer for bittering, then a large selection of
others including steerian and goldings hops. The brewery is
computer controlled and they tell us that this keeps consistency
to a rather better degree than the old manual plant. The water
quality is good for brewing and it is a little hard so this is
adjusted. The success of Ripper has rased Green Jack's profile
over the last year but because it is an 8,5 percent beer they
don't shift large volumes.
Good touch before we moved on we were given nibbles. Warm and friendly pub. Will
go back.

The Fat Cat, Ipswich

This pub is a winner for real ale. Always brews from the Fat Cat brewery in Norwich along with a good mind bogling selection from other brewers around the country.

The scotch eggs are large and the other bar food tasty. A winner.

The Glamorgan, Croydon

Stonkingly good home made burgers cooked to your liking. Harvey's best, Lancaster Bomber and Adnams on draft. so good I went twice in the one day.

The staff were good with my customer and I but a little off with one of his coleagues. I found it friendly though.

The Woolpack, Ipswich

Fantastic food, friendly staff and a good selection of standard bitters including Young's, Black Sheep and one or two others. They are always in good nick and it's worth dropping in for the food and a few pints of an evening.

Clare and I love the place.

The White Horse, Epsom

What a change from the dobbin of old. The White Horse is a mustang in the pub dross of Epsom these days. The French barman makes it worth it alone and the manager is a lovely chap with some good ideas including beer tasting evenings with brewers ETC. The Riser dies but the horse gallops on!

Ye Olde Kings Head, Epsom

bustling little
pub with well kept ales and friendly staf. unspoilt unlike the rising sun nearby. Give it a try.

The Rising Sun, Epsom

I went in for a quick pint on Thursday afternoon but the Little Hitler of a manager appears to have placed a stop on my drinking in this establishment because of my below review. Arigant someone said below. This would appear to be true.

This place will be a set of apartments in two years time and it was empty when I went in.

The Rose and Crown, Ipswich

good real ale fest before christmas and over the newyear. top class beers with good landlord.

friendly locals and normally 5 beers on at any one time. music on Friday and Satterday evenings upstairs.
could do wiht a lick of paint. It's a bit quiet and this is a shame since Ipswich surely can support 3 real ale pubs apart from the Dove and Fat Cat.

The Rising Sun, Epsom

Disinterested euro bar staff who dont know the foggiest about the ales. Good food but the personality has been sterilized from the old days of Pilgrim. Rip off prices too. It's getting 4 stars for the food as this is top. It's no longer a pub though. nice restaurant. In fact, 3 stars.

The Dove, Ipswich

Do not mist this pub at all costs. At least 14 ales on at most times along with some interesting fizz and a good bottle and malt selection. Adis beer from the wood can be most first-rate at times and Karen does a lovely job with the home made food.

The bar staff give time even when its packed and this can be the problem at times. Not the bar staff but if youre going on a Friday or Saturday youd better get in quick as its normally standing room only.

One of the best pubs in Ipswich and I love it. pubs don't get much better than this if you're in to propper beer.
