The Black Horse, Sturminster Marshall

under new management. We were made very welcome, and had a very nice lunch. The starters were substantial, delicious and beautifully presented. Steaks were above average and good value for money, and once again well presented. No room for a pudding alas! We will definately go again.

The Duke Of Wellington, Wareham

tried a steak sizzler, not impressed. It had a piece of burnt fish in it, and a lemon slice. My partner had mussels and there were eight dead ones. may have been a bad day, as this has been my favourite Wareham pub since I was young.

The Cooper Dean Hotel, Bournemouth

we can't resist the steaks, simple but always well cooked and presented.

The Royal Oak, Cerne Abbas

Best and most imaginitive menu in Dorset. Lunchtimes are charmingly informal and chef is happy to discuss the menu at length with dedicated foodies. Try the oxtail with monkfish cheeks...

The Anchor at Shapwick, Shapwick

misogynist landlord made me feel most unwelcome, and I do not expect to find a chip in my whitebait. We will not be eating there again.
