Bar Fringe, Manchester

This is the best bar in Manchester. Incredible selection of beers and ales. The best indie/punk/rock jukebox ever. The clientele range from Camra stalwarts to ageing Hells Angels with a few lost students in between.

The Cornerhouse, Manchester

They really need to sort out the slow service issue. Inexperienced staff are the only problem in this bar. Improving selection of beers though and the food is good.

M19 Bar, Levenshulme

I was in last night (3 March 07) for the AcousticFest. Great atmosphere, no real ale but Hoegaarten and some Belgian beers. Well worth a visit for the Irish music. Need to put some cask ales on though!

The Marble Arch, Manchester

Cracking pub, best time to go is early Friday evening - great atmosphere with all the posties in from the sorting office round the corner. The micro-brewed beers can be hit & miss - but the new tawny ale is a tasty one.

The Knott Bar, Deansgate

This is one of the best pubs in town, hard to think of anywhere with wider range of beers. Great crowd, a real mix - the odd time I've seen the ex-bassist from the Smiths in. The ace jukebox is still here as well.

The Cask Bar, Castlefield

Opposite the Science & Industry Museum, this is a great small bar attracting a diverse crowd. Great German & Belgian beers on tap and bottled. One of the best jukeboxes in Manchester to boot.

The Cornerhouse, Manchester

renovated upstairs but the best beers are served downstairs.

The Cask Bar, Castlefield

Quite unique little pub near the Science & Industry Museum. Popular with Spanish community in Manchester as next to Cervantes Institute. Hard to get a seat and a bit smokey, but a good stop off on a Castlefield pub crawl.

The Knott Bar, Deansgate

I'm surprised at the last posting, the Knott is a very friendly boozer with a mix of great characters and a superb range of well-kept ales. Can get very crowded though on the weekend.

The Briton's Protection Hotel, Castlefield

This is one of the best pubs in England, always good beer and huge selection of whiskies. It does get full but the crowd are very pleasant - no idiots in here. Try to get a spot in the snug at the back of the pub.

The Rain Bar, Castlefield

This is a reasonable pub and very popular with the after-work crowd. It's best in the summer with it large outdoor area, and there are some new outdoor heaters. Great beer from JW Lees and ace wine selection but it lacks the atmosphere and character of its neighbours. Best if you are in a large group.
