The Red, White and Blue, Southsea

Will be patronising this pub for Karen's brave actions in standing up to Sky TV. a real win for every pub that wants to show football.

football puts bums on seats, money in the till and keeps pubs alive.

football breathes life into pubs.

Murdoch says you can only show prem games if you pay him 13k a year +.

Sir Robert Peel, Bloxwich

under new management again. incredibly the barman was smoking when I went in. strange how it made the place stink to high heaven - I hated it and I would (as a smoker) have happily accepeted it 2 years ago.

grotty. left without buying.

Busbys, West Bromwich

STILL A DIVE.

The Boycott Arms, Upper Ludstone

Under new management. More ales to come, been freshened up with a lick of paint and the place looks great (their website hasnt been update yet though so bare that in mind if you check it).

Place looks beautiful, Geoff and Margret are consumate hosts, menu looks lovely. highly reccomended.

The Little Lark, Studley

nice pub, good simple cheap food, good beers and a great range of single malts.

in the week it is very much a local pub for local people. locals dont make you feel unwelcome as such, but they do look at you a lot.

some nice girls behind the bar, polite and friendly

The Coach House, Solihull

Stunnertier1 has obviously never been to Mayfair, and probably hasnt even left the West Midlands.

Anonymous poster below him was spot on.

This isnt a bad boozer that is getting more chain-ey as time goes on.

Garden is good for the summer and the largerly grown up clientele is unusual.

Hogs Head is ok too, Solihull has one of the least rubbish Wetherspoons I've been to and Casa is alright, otherwise the only thing I'd reccomend about Solihull is the 37 that takes you to Brum.

The Plough, Shelly Green

Beefeater. Bit plastic. Clean. I suppose.

Massive car park not bordering the road. Garden next to 6 lanes of traffic.

The Good Mixer, Camden

For the love of God let the brit pop thing go, it ages us all and theres nothing worse than horribly contrived nostalgia from kooky camdenites - people mix us locals up for you "krazy" day trippers from suburban zone 74.

The mixer is a good basic boozer, reasonably cheap, good staff and has pool and football. thats about it - you wont pull Jarvis, have a good old sing along with Damon or arm wrestle Liam.

And thats no bad thing.

The Albert, Primrose Hill

The summer brings out the best in this beautiful little pub, as the garden is surprisingly large and very pleasant. The beers are good but the food is restaurant priced and moderate pub standard.

Centuria, Canonbury

After reading some bad reviews I approached this place with trepidation. I had been before for a tasty starter but was going for an occasion with the missus and didnt want it going tits up.

Got there early and pub was nearly empty. Nice big windows, good seating, nice vibe, the customers typical Islington fare - I couldnt swear to it but I think they were all reading the guardian.

Had a very pleasant few drinks then headed through to the restaurant as the first customers of the night. We got excellent service from the french chap who served us and my foie gras & pheasant starter was excellent, as was her humous & olive starter. her mixed seafood pasta and my tuna steak main were both absolutely fine and portions generous. We couldnt face desert after - and left happy paying 60 odd including a very reasonable bottle of champaign.

The Bell House, Camden

All the below is true. V good ales, friendly staff and possibly the best beer garden in camden.

My only concern is that the locals can be a little local and unwelcoming. Perhaps with summer coming the locals can smell the incomers to this hidden Camden treasure.

Crown and Goose, Camden

Excellent gastro-pub that seems puts the "pub" part first while serving food of a quality you wouldnt get in many of Islingtons less subtle gastro pubs. Truely excellent.

Suspiciously beautiful bar people are sometimes predictably surly but generally cool. Especially pleasant is the minature blonde who always brings her two friends out to play.

Take 20p off the price of a pint and i'd be happy as Larry.

The Liberties Bar, Camden

Functional pub that offers little beoynd the basic, but the basic well.

Food is very much edible, though a little bit on the pricey and the food service is TERRIBLE at lunch times (you'll either be late back, or eating a steak bagette at your desk).

The Pride is generally strong and the service good, the prices are middle of the road to expensive - 2.50 Pride 2.60 Guiness - and its a nice enouh wooden pub to see through a quiet mid week drink.

Reccomended for a) quietly watching the football mid week or b) the comedy on weds (5 in).

Abacus, Bank

Possibly the worse place in the world for so many reasons - not least that tossers like that Richy Lloyd-Graham (read the comments further down, classic city nob head) are as good as the clientele gets.

11 Feb 2005 11:02

The Masons Arms, Solihull

RUBBISH RUBBISH RUBBISH
terrible terribly terrible

100's of horny chav's thrown together in a rubbish venue to spill beer over each other and fight. Binge drinking at its worse, the Daily Mail would have a field day, the shame of a nation.

Really, its that bad.

The Camden Eye, Camden

Really dodgy boozer.

Normally one for a back street boozer I keep an eye out for rough diamonds - but this is just rough.

The benefits and skag trades keep this slightly strange smelling establishment open, but they arent doing us any favours in doing so.

Its a simple lesson - the first pub you see from the tube station is ALWAYS rubbish. And in this case full of skag heads and cheap kings x whores.

The Captain Kidd, Wapping

Right on the river with a small yard area bordering the water the pubs a real winner for summer.

For winter too this is a refreshing break from the shitty city bars, with there be-mulletted essex wide boy clientel.

The Greenwich Union, Greenwich

One of my favurite London pubs, and possibly my favourite summer pub.

Tasty range of beers makes for interesting drinking, with my favourites being the heavier, darker ales (the "chocolate" stout being the best of the bunch for my money) but the lager and pilsner stand up to inspection too.

Great beer and staff, lovelly little garden, friendly and homely. A definite winner.

Bunker, Covent Garden

These pictures dont do this bar justice - a nice little bar just metres away from the hell of Covent Gdn, refreshingly quiet early doors (while the shopping crowd mills about at street-level) and nicely lively later on.

The Pilsner's a lovelly fresh pint - and 2.90 for a premium lager in this location cant be argued with - too many times I've paid that for a tepid Fosters in similar circumstances.
