The Royal Oak, New Malden

Live close by and have visited more often recently. Seems to be well run now and although maybe not too friendly is certainly efficient. Not quite so much rifraf in there any more either which is probably a positive reflection on the current management. Food wholesome and straightforward and pretty good value although no sunday roast was available after about 4pm. Beers are well kept and the old speckled hen recently was excellent but only choice of 2 ales. Nice big garden on a summers day and regular sky sports in the bars. 7 out of 10 for the effort being put in here.

Duke Of York, St John's Wood

Stopped for a pint and some lunch. Firstly not really a pub as such more a restaurant with almost solely table service. No ales only lagers on tap. Very expensive but reflects the area. Food good but took a long time to arrive. We ordered at the bar but people around us were directed towards table service and then receiving 12.5% service added to the bill although stated as optional. Also wanted to keep our credit card behind the bar which worries me. Anyway if you want high quality pub food in an up market spot close to tube station then this is OK but the service issues make it hard work to enjoy. 4/10.

The Swan Hotel, Staines

Revisited this pub being an old haunt from my youth. Wanted a bite to eat and an ale on Saturday afternoon but told no food served until 6pm. Price for 2 beers and 2 bags of crips was eye watering. Discovery not great either. Nice location but service and offering below average and it appears yet another prime site being managed into the ground. 3/10.

The GlassHouse, New Malden

Had a meal there last night. Have to say food was'nt great very salty and says a lot about how lacking New Malden is in quality dining that this place offering really pub style menu is booked solid. Seem to need more staff serving but maybe just teething problems.

Great pub though and ale was first class on every visit. Friendly staff. Wine prices also very reasonable and a bottle of Coonawarra red we enjoyed was excellent. Lovely atmosphere and a very welcome addition to New Malden.

The GlassHouse, New Malden

Well this place has closed down and has signs plastered outside saying it is to reopen as the glass house part of the l'auberge restaurant. wow great for new malden just hope they have plenty of bouncers to get rid of the locals that previously ruined quite a nice looking pub.

Harts Boatyard, Surbiton

Visited this pub for lunch one Saturday afternoon about 3 weeks ago. It was a lovely day and there were plenty of people sitting outside enjoying the riverside location.

We ordered our food at about 2.45 and after chasing it twice it finally arrived at 4pm. We only ordered a burger and a jacket potato. The burger had obviously just sat there for ages and the potato was frankly a disgrace. It was cold and the tuna topping was one lump straight from a tin with a spoonfull of mayo on top - not even mixed together.

The worst meal I have had in a pub in a long long time. Still you live and learn so will not be returning until I learn it is under new management which I suspect will not be too long away. Shame because the location is a blinder - it is almost criminal to run a pub like this in such a way.
