Stein Inn, Stein

Good food, nice and very busy in the summer, never been a fan of eating in quiet places. nice beer etc, my tip is after an evening meal and a few drinks pop out as the light is fading at get an amazing view by out across the loch.

The Pitcher and Piano, Soho

I am no fan of 'Pitchers and Pianos' at the best of times but the times I've had the misfortune to go here I've regretted it. The last time (and it will be the last time) I was treated with disdain by the barstaff for not wishing to leave my card behind the bar, this is a increasingly annoying feature of frequenting bars, I mean I don't mind being asked if I want to do this but when I say 'no thank you' i don't expect sneering and implying I'm some kind of loser, avoid this place!

O'Neills, Shepherds Bush

It's an O'Neils, nuff said! to be fair when its busy there is a fair atmosphere and O'Neils do a good job on their pub food so if you are in Shepherds Bush and don't feel up to taking a risk then a safe if unexciting option.

The Bobbin, Aberdeen

Your typical scream, studenty and just about does the job but I prefferred it in the mid 90s when it was not a scream, if only for hilarious characters/memories.

The Prince of Wales, Aberdeen

In my aberdeen days this was the place to meet up, no pretentions, just a place for a pint and a blether, a member of the small but select group of decent pubs in aberdeen.

The Illicit Still, Aberdeen

I think the ratings are unfair, for Aberdeen it's a rather cosy place to have a drink and some decent enough food, very studenty but at least unlike many of the towns other bars it neither too oil rich pretentious or threatenly locals only.

A warm hole to refresh in winter.

The Triplekirks, Aberdeen

Agree totally with the other comment, I frequented throughout the mid to late 90s where it was as good a pub as you could hope to find in Aberdeen, returned more recently post being turned to a Scream and it was diabolical, espicially the punters who resembled the living dead. Big shame!

The Phoenix, Victoria

Old fashioned pub which serves well to have a pint and watch a bit of sport on the big screen, or sit outside weather permitting.

By far and away the best thing is the food, for the relatively cheap price generous tasty portions so a superb choice for a lunctime pint and feed.

Rutland Arms, Hammersmith

Its okay but it has better venues nearby.

Have eaten a few times and its okay, but on last visit when a group of us ate we almost suffocated in the heat. Staff I think are little slow on the uptake.

The Hart, Hammersmith

Just found this bar a little too up itself to win me over, lets just say if you enjoying drinkinmg in company of say someone off Eastenders it's fine, but then if that's your bag your're a bit sad really

Otherwise okay, but unloveable.

The Black Lion, Hammersmith

Nice place, never overcrowded, cosy in winter, but nice big beer garden which is near enough to the river. Once had an excellent bbq lunch there on a hot summers day.

Food is basic but no complaints considering the price, staff have always been pleasant. Good for if you want somewhere to sit and have a chinwag with an old friend without disturbance.

What is best about it is sitting inside you really feel like you could be in a small village than just off the A4 in London.

The Old Ship, Hammersmith

If you want to sit out on a summers day/night in a by the river location then you can't beat the Old Ship. Food is okay but I've had a lot better for the price, beer adequate.

Okay sometimes you get a crap individual serving so that's a mixed bag and a nights drinking there is not cheap but if the sun is hot then usually the Old Ship comes to mind

7 overall, but 9 for location.

The Raven, Stamford Brook

Have popped in here, usually on a friday at this pub for last 3 years, about once every couple of months. Appearences from the outside are somewhat 'old man boozer' nothing like it.

Sometimes I feel the crowd is a bit 'chiswick' but not unbearably so, and also often staff are little too hard on the trying to look like Tom Cruise in Cocktail thing, and could be little quicker to pick up on 'customer waiting'

however the atmosphere is very good, the funky jazzy music is different and uplifting, the food is actually worth its price which is high for a pub. Decor is one of 'winter warmth' but contemporary.

And the pint is always up to scratch, and they do have papers!

Walkabout, Shepherds Bush

Have been twice

First time, big group of mates, friday night, lots to drink, cheesy music, live band, foam party, fantastic night.

Next time, friday again, a couple of mates, a couple of drinks, and it was absolutely awfull, left pretty quickly

so i guess it's a place to go in big numbers, allready well on way to drunkeness and hope for the best.

The Old Bull & Bush, Shepherds Bush

Have been many times over past few years, is generally friendly, down2earth, great for say watching england games, not a place I'd go on a friday/saturday but for a weeknight pint it's fine, pool area also a bonus, other comment about the Guinness spot on, is usually good.

Okay have seen a couple of 'incidents' but overall I enjoy my visits to the OB+B.

The Goldhawk, Shepherds Bush

Lovely comfy sofas, but my couple of visits have been spoiled by overly loud music for a pub, and once my friends and I were told with just a little too much smugness that food serving time was over. Beer/Interior all fine though.

The Eagle, Shepherds Bush

Have been fairly regularly in past year, very nice interior, if a little dark, great spacious beer garden, food is very good, though attention to those overhard potatoes would be nice. music on friday is kept to a civil 'talk-through level'

Sadly on my last visit when I took an old friend for sunday lunch we were let down by a barman who clearly thought he was too good to provide any sort of service and soured my impression, it's like you work in a pub mate, nothing wrong with that but if you don't like it, don't take it out on your customers.

The Jolly Porter, Reading

Had a pint with friend here in 1999 to kill time before a train, and the most dead time you could ever imagine, depressing and dreadfull in everyway possible.
