The Plough, Dulwich

As a new Mum, I discovered this pub courtesy of the mother and baby group which takes place there every friday. And Ive been back again and again since. Its a cracker. The staff are amongst the best Ive ever known a pub to have. Each and every one of them has a good sense of humour and a courteous manner. The beer and wine selection is also good. My only criticism would be the food. We were served very over cooked wedges, but when complained these were replaced quickly and without a fuss. My mates soup was also a bit runny. And when you advertise a ham sandwich you dont expect it to be over cooked ham off the bone...
Aside from that this is the best pub in the area at the moment. Specially if you have kids. Your made to feel really welcome rather than endured like most of the other pubs in the area.

The Gowlett Arms, Peckham

I feel that a special mention is needed for Tim behind the Bar most nights! A cracking bloke who makes a cracking Bloody Mary and who also makes our regular Gowlett visits a real pleasure!

Thanks mate!

The Bishop, East Dulwich

Love love love this pub, and have already mentioned this on the site. I dont find the change thing on a plate offensive as I used to work behind the bar myself and understand the logic behind it. Find it slightly depressing when people complain that Lordship Lane is declining down a gastro route and ruining the old pubs. Lordship Lane is flourishing, and if you dont like it, move somewhere else! The Forresters was a hole that nobody with any pub taste went to. It was filthy dirty and the food was frozen shite. The manager of this place always reminds me of my old boss when i worked in a pub back home in Lancaster; always thinking, good to his staff and attentive to customers, putting them first. This old boss of mine has only just retired after 20 years in the business and the pub has been taken over to match his style exactly, changing nothing. May The Bishop prosper...tis by far the best! Have to admit the day time creche is a bit annoying...but then maybe I should be at work and not in the pub in the day time...so my fault! ;)

Inside 72, East Dulwich

I have had some really nice times in this place, but soon got irritated with feeling like i was crashing somebodies private party, i.e., the staff's. They lounge about, doing feck all, blasting the tunes up when they feel like it, and then they have the cheek to look put out when you ask for a pint! I think the attempt at looking trendy by having bare lighbulbs hanging off the ceiling, and decorating the walls with crisp boxes is so lame. It should just set itself up on Camberwell Road and officially become the SU bar that it truly already is. Pants!

Fantastic pub! Excellent service, friendly staff, great tunes (the best i have ever known a pub to play), lovely food, great decor. All in all fab!

The East Dulwich Tavern (EDT), Dulwich

Not a bad pub. Once it was THE trendy pub on the street, but thank goodness this has changed with the birth of the Bishop etc. Lacks atmosphere alot of the time, adn could do with a food menu to spice it up a bit. Beautiful flowers always there to admire however! All in all a bit lame though to be honest. And i will take below persons advice and a) stay in my own pub, and b) rubbish this one on the internet! Cheers!

I too have noticed that when i rate a pub as bad, that people snipe back and assume that im an ex member of staff! people not allowed an opinion anymore? Ridiculous!

The Wishing Well, Peckham

Good traditional London boozer. Once upon a time it was all we really had around these parts for a decent pint...but thank god all that has changed! Still thouugh, i do have a major soft spot for the place, and their wicked happy hour all day up until 6pm rocks!

The Phoenix, Denmark Hill

Absolutely gorgeous pub! A real hidden gem. Food looks mouth watering and the decor is really tasteful. Huge selection of wine...maybe too huge. A really good addition to the already booming pubs of East Dulwich. Long may it last!

The Patch, East Dulwich

Miss the old Mag definately, and especially the comedy. Was kind of hoping they would bring it back when they re-opened as it was a real feature of our blooming neighbourhood! However, i think the decor is lovely, the staff are great and the pizza's rock!

The Vale Bar, Dulwich

The volume is always off on the telly....your right. Also surely it is illegal to refuse a pregnant woman a glass of tap water? Swines i tell you!

The Vale Bar, Dulwich

The comment below regarding an ex member of staff writing the negative comments is false! I can safely say that i have never worked in the Vale. As an ex barmaid and fan of pub life, i couldnt help but noticing that the turn over of staff was high, and that you would be lucky to see the same face behind the bar for more than a week. I enquired after this, and was informed that this is becasue the managers have a penchant for sacking their staff. Only hiring pretty people, who cant do the jop properly and then sacking them. Its a shame 'sour grapes' are assumed to be the reason for making a negative comment about a place that is clearly badly managed!

The John O'Gaunt, Lancaster

I used to work here and i have the fondest memories ever of most definately, Lancaster's best ever pub. There aint nothing you cant get there, from malt whiskies to a multitude of vodkas in the freezer and also the best pub grub ever. I have since moved away from Lancaster, but its my first stop when i come back to visit, and also usually where i have my breakfast the next day...usually the fantastic shepherds pie. But quite literally everything on that menu is wonderful. Steve, the old manager, should be very proud of himself. Its good to know that since it changed hands that it hasnt changed at all. Also has the best staff ever, namely Debs and Alan! Just wish there was more pubs like this one in London :(

Fantastic pub! Check it out. It has just won Camra South London pub of the year for goodness sakes! And another award from a radio station.
