The Castle, Walthamstow

They do a great Sunday carvery in here.
Also good music at the weekend.
A fine establishment run by a forward-thinking team who seem to know what the area wants more than most others.
As for the landlord - he's a sound bloke. He's never groped me or leered at my missus. I'm pretty sure you can find much worse around E17.

The Nags Head, Walthamstow

Well said HRM.
I can't understand all the flack this place gets from people who disagree with the choice of tablecloths or people who drink here.
Fact is, the Nag's Head is at least attempting to up the ante of pubs in Walthamstow. The Sunday band are brilliant free entertainment and given that most alternatives involve being in a sleazy flea-pit surrounded by fat plumbers I know where I'd rather be.

The Goose, Walthamstow

Is this being re-furbished??
Passed by today and saw a few blokes inside sanding it all down and generally tarting it up.

Crown and Goose, Camden

Nice grub served by nice friendly staff.
Caffreys is pretty spot-on too.
Dunno about the artwork over the fireplace, though - surely the nose is too far away from the mouth?

The Famous Cock Tavern, Islington

No need to apologise to all the Gooners.
Real Gooners drink elsewhere.

The Old Queens Head, Islington

Just read that Weatherall's playing down here on Sunday 26th August.
Islington needs more of this - DJ legends playing on Sunday afternoons for free!
Even if you don't know what he looks like, you can't miss out!
Pub's really nice too.

The Lord Palmerston, Walthamstow

Why is this the only Walthamstow pub on this site accompanied with a picture??
I took photos of all the pubs in Walthamstow a few weeks ago but can't seem to upload them.
Any tips?

The Compton Arms, Islington

Had more than my fair share of Tribute in here yesterday - lovely. And in the sunshine outside too.
This is a lovely compact little boozer full of charming locals and local charm.
And for all those knocking the 'hell-hole' of Highbury Corner - the whole tube area is earmarked for development starting next year.

Potion Bar, Fitzrovia

I Dj'd in here about 6 months ago and was appalled at the sound system so when a mate booked it for his birthday and asked me to play i tried to convince him otherwise but he wouldn't have it.....
Soundsystem is still appalling. Bar-staff seemed pretty clueless as to how to sort it out too.
Not a bad 'meeting-up' place but if you're up for a night out, avoid, and if you're a dj then steer well clear 'cos it's a proper wind-up.

The King William IV, Chigwell

Went here last Sunday with the family to celebrate my Mum's birthday..... Six of us had three courses each and there wasn't one duff dish. The food is excellent.
Staff aren't as bad as some other comments make out. I came here on Christmas day and they were rushed off their feet and pretty chaotic but seem to have things under control on an average Sunday.
The decor is nice too - just the right side of poncey, and as for the crowd - what's wrong with a few wannabe wags here and there? Gives you something to look at between courses.

The Garnon Bushes, Coopersale

I popped in here this morning (Saturday 21 July) whilst working across the road.
Lovely old pub with a load of features still intact.
Looks like it's been here donkey's years.
I had such a nice pint of Guiness that if i wasn't working on a house over the road, i'd have stayed all day.
Will have to pop back for a longer session.

The Rose and Crown, Walthamstow

I noticed this has a 'Business To Let' sign outside it now so if you're an aspiring landlord/lady with a bit of good taste then please, for Walthamstow's sake, have a look at this place - it's a local landmark, smack bang in the middle of Hoe St. Blinding potential. Just rip out the god-awful interior, get a good menu going (i assume they have an adequate kitchen as they used to offer Thai, Italian and English fare), tart it up a bit and with a bit of savvy this place could give every other pub in E17 a run for it's money.

The Rose and Crown, Walthamstow

I ventured down here yesterday to watch the cup final (Arsenal and Chelsea) only to find it closed with a note on the door saying something about a 'technical problem' - what's all that about?? It's a pub, how technical does it get? This is my local. All i wanted was a short stroll, a few pints of Guiness and a bit of footie on a Sunday afternoon but oh no - Walthamstow's answer to the tower of london has gone all glithcy. Thanks.
I ended up in The Queen's Head surrounded by Chelsea gobshites.

The Rose and Crown, Walthamstow

WOW! What a transformation!! This place looks great with new tasteful decor, loads of comfy seating and nice fixtures - not to mention the new wide range of beers and food selection.............not really, it's still the same old tacky tower-of-london-themed cess-pit it always was. Shame really because it's a really nice building from the outside.
Sort it out!!

The Nags Head, Walthamstow

This is a great pub during the week but really comes into it's own on a Sunday afternoon with the live band. They turn up every single Sunday come rain or shine and have a right proper jazzy wig-out. Got to agree with the bloke about the bar-staff, though. Some of em just dont look all the ticket.
On the whole, Walthamstow could do with a few more pubs with the Nag's attitude. Perhaps someone can re-furb the Rose & Crown on Hoe St. Its been vacant for about 8 weeks now.
